I got my Australian Citizenship approval letter immediately after my test that I took on Nov 19, 2 days ago on Friday, 3 months after application submission on Aug 6 2021. It was done in 5 min with full marks on tablet sitting right front of the officer after verification and photo taken. I was just asked my ld proof and Aus driving license was enough and birth certificate so I gave CBSE X marks sheet which she said is okay as she knew that's acceptable in India. Just read the material in the site. Got invitation for test on Oct 11 after 2 months of submitting the application. Got Occupational Trainee Visa 2011, student visa (PhD) 2014, 2018, temporary graduate visa 2018, Permanent Residency 2020 and its easiest application and for PR and citizenship I wasn't asked any more questions after submitting once. I asked the officer is it so quick, she said yes and sent approval letter there itself. But she said there is delay in Melbourne due to lockdowns but office wasn't closed in Brisbane. But got to wait around 6 months for the ceremony in Brisbane city council which I will know a month before ceremony. Lets see when I will get ceremony invitation. Its such a relief to finally get Citizenship approved 🙂. Please check email updates as I knew my test invitation only a week before test by SMS notification as I stopped checking immi account and emails thinking it will take more than 6 months. My Melbourne friend applied in Dec 2020 and yet to get test invitation.

After studying bachelor or masters or phd on student visa one can apply for Temporary Graduate Visa. The visa length varies from 1-5 years depending on degree and regional or not. I got PhD in regional so I got 4 years in 2018 but later changes happened and for regional degrees one year was added I guess. This visa is only for those who got first student visa after Nov 2011 or else one needs regular work visa. My PhD friend who came for masters before Nov 2011 couldn't apply for 485. I applied for student visa extension too as I didnt complete within visa time. Until I got the extension I was on Bridging visa. Within two months I got extension I applied for 485 and in a month I got it. A year later I applied for PR and within a day got invitation to apply and applied in 2-3 days I guess. I was on 485 until I got PR 7 months later exactly when lockdown began in Aus. Only when 485 expires bridging visa starts. After a year of PR can apply for citizenship, overall minimum 4 years in Aus. I applied 1yr 4 months after PR, in 2 months test invitation, in 3 months after applying did test 3 days ago, there itself got citizenship approval. Within 6 months hopefully the ceremony.
Congratulations. So after submitting application you said , you can't travel overseas. Actually there is a condition that you can't be away more than 90 days when you submit application. Is it also the case once your application is submitted?

Citizenship documentation is very minimal in comparison to the PR, you need identity documents e.g. passport birth certificate drivers license and you need to fill in the 1195 declaration with passport size photos

I just submitted my CBSE X marks sheet as birth certificate. Luckily I took it last minute. I submitted my passport online as birth proof though. The officer said she knows in India X marks sheet is birth certificate proof so she scanned it. I was lucky I felt 🙂

It could vary. I saw youtube video of a guy getting in 11 days and his wife who applied month before him took over a year. I got in 2 months and my Melbourne friend is waiting still almost a year.

That is correct the Indian Constitution does not allow dual nationality, therefore you will have to renounce your Indian citizenship however, you can apply for the overseas citizenship of India which is like a permanent Visa for India.
No, you dont need to cancel Indian citizenship to get Australian citizenship. However when you travel abroad you cannot travel with Indian passport. Since you will travel with Aus passport, you should submit your Indian passport to Indian embassy for OCI before you leave Aus. Australia allows dual, multi citizenship but not India.

Australia doesn't mind you having Indian passport as it allows dual citizenship but problem comes from Indian side as it doesn't allow dual citizenship so if one wants to travel outside Aus one must surrender Indian passport and get OCI and travel on Australian passport.

You have to give up on your Indian passport after receiving Australian citizenship. But you can apply for an OCI to travel to India visa free

Australia doesn't mind you having Indian passport as it allows dual citizenship but problem comes from Indian side as it doesn't allow dual citizenship so if one wants to travel outside Aus one must surrender Indian passport and get OCI and travel on Australian passport.
Australian passports are taking extremely long because of the COVID-19, it's 6-8 weeks now

I feel very sad because for aquisition citizenship of other country you terminated indian citizenship .
That means you are not citizen of india anymore.
I love to be indian and i will not leave my country and terminate its citizenship ever.
All are Indians inside even if they give up passport which they do for their personal life ease which differs for each
There is no choice my friend, unfortunately India does not allow dual citizenship as per its constitution, by not having Indian citizenship does it make him or her less Indian? Obviously not, I'm also a dual citizen, I was born in India by not having Indian nationality citizenship, doesn't make me less and Indian does it? Obviously it doesn't
