    On 2012, Lee Michelle became Top 5 on SBS K-pop star season 1 with her powerful singing skills and her soulful voice. After two years of waiting, she is back with her first digital single 'Without you'.
    The title song 'Without you' is a song where Lee Michelle's soulful and sentimental voice works well with the strong beat. The amazing melody line also has restrained sadness and feelings to it. Also, the story talks about a couple broke up, and the story comes to us in a very different way with the memorable music video.

    Watching this as a black girl hurts so bad. Young black girls get so much shit growing up because of our skin color and hair texture. I can't image how hard it must be for a sister in a country like South Korea. It's sickening that most parts of the world view dark skin as a disadvantage.

    I dont know why but she has more emotion than Kpop stars can show. I mean, it's probably because the whole meaning behind this MV is actually true since it's trying to tell us that she went through hardships with race/skin color when she was at Korea.
    I really hope she has some type of promotion in the US.

    but what makes me proud of her is that she could have debuted anyway, with a generic love song or something but no. she chose to tackle serious situations and that is amazing in itself. Let's not even talk about the amount of talent she has.

  • @Anvocnighma
    @Anvocnighma 9 лет назад +829

    Gosh! Her voice is amazing! She sings better than most Korean girls in a girl group, but no. They have to look at her skin color and judge her based on the fact she is half black. Can't they just turn blind to that fact and just keep their ears open and listen to the music. I mean, her voice is really amazing and she should be given a shot at making herself known better as a singer or idol than just dis/regarded as "A black girl who can sing Korean".

    • @Bobsyermomsuncle
      @Bobsyermomsuncle 9 лет назад +57

      Sammy P She not only has a beautiful voice, she is a beautiful woman. Rather than turn a blind eye, why not take in the whole package, the beautiful brown skin, the Asian features, and that magnificent voice. I've never liked the term color blind. Nature or G -d no matter how you view, put a lot of work into making human beings a diverse and wonderful species. Can we truly learn to love our differences if we pretend not to notice something a miraculous as the spectrum of complexion?

      WANI He To me, Lee Michele has features that reflect Both of her parents'' ancestry. It is different depending on what your family is like--my immediate family has a blend of ethnicity. Many times although a child may resemble both parents, person outside the family get caught up in how what expect an Asian, European, Middle Eastern, or African woman to look like rather than which of her Mother and father's features a child inherited. Does that make sense?

    • @wanihe

      Michelle was supposed to debut in a 4 member girl group called SuPearls under YG but it didn't work out. Lee-Hi debut as a solo artist then that put Michelle and the other two members back to being trainees. As time went by her contract was nullified which basically means she was of no use or value for YG.

      Oh my goodness people, all this boils down to one sad but true fact: there is a very high level of racism in Korea. Although Korea is beginning to become more accepting and socially open, I can for sure say that racism was or is still a prominent problem. It's no lie that Lee michelle has had obstacles in the music industry because of her skin color; jyp even told her that it was going to be hard and that Korea needed to change during the kpopstar audition program. Being born and raised half of my life in Korea i can tell you now that there's more prejudice than you think. Living amongst Koreans even in America has taught me that there's discrimination despite being exposed to American culture.

    In love with this song, the lyrics, and the MV. What I'm scared of is the reaction to this song though not on the internet, but in Korea. I don't know much about black people in Korea, but I think it's safe to assume that there aren't many. I fear Michelle Lee won't get the recognition she deserves because of her skin color and that makes me upset considering she was born and raised in Korea and is half Korean. Talent is talent, no matter what and this girl definitely has it. She's beautiful and deserves all she's going to get.

    I just watched this a second time and I'm actually sobbing, omg I haven't cried like this in a while.
    Soompi said that the song was talking about a boy but I think it could be interpreted as her saying she doesn't need approval of her haters to be beautiful or meaningful. That she's perfect the way she is. OMG I LOVE THIS SONG.
    I, myself haven't been discriminated against but I just get so angry, and emotional when it comes down to it. I want everyone treated equally.

    • @alleykearn
      @alleykearn 10 лет назад

      Idk what states you're talking about, but it isn't the United States. Anti-blackness is this country's #1 trend of the year, every year. I can't even walk down the street without hearing some white boy use a slur, and I'm not even black. We undermine black artists and refuse to allow them dignity and recognition or to be taken seriously as artists. They're novelties at best, and we usually treat them children in the media.
      The States would be just as horrible to her. She deserves better than where anywhere can get her. White supremacy is worldwide. That's why Korea has such big problems with racism and colorism-because white people put it there.

    • @watermelonpenguin
      @watermelonpenguin 10 лет назад

      Alley Kearn I also think that in predominantly white countries the media doesn't have enough asians. Black people have taken amazing milestones in the media yet asians seem so far behind. I think its great how kpop has spread internationally but its still not mainstream enough for people to take asians seriously. Don't get me wrong, I like Psy and that but they seem to be treated as something funny not as a serious artist in the music industry. I Wish every race could be as equally accepted as any other. Btw I'm chinese I'm not just randomly saying stuff... but yeah *sigh*
      PS Lee Michelle is beautiful :) and the little girl too... aww so cute those cheeks^_^

    • @shanaekt
      @shanaekt 10 лет назад

      being a black girl myself I say this as nicely as I can. Racism it is everywhere smarty pants. Since you've decided to respond to my harmless comment I think I should to your long ass novel response. Kpop don't have much black/Korean artist that's as famous as most other kpop artist. My comment since u've decided to read so much into it. is simply me cheering on another biracial female that her success is not limited. and being black here in America will not stop anyone success. you have big success "BLACK" artist who are making it and making history, such as queen B, Rihanna jennifer hudson and the list goes on. And with a voice as beautiful as her's anyone would take her seriously. next time you see a simple comment especially one that is coming from someone cheering on someone else just leave it as it is. And FYI the pale skin syndrome didn't just come from white people its been around in alot of cultures, such as china etc. The whole if your skin is darker you must be poor and forced to work in the sun. The point of my comment is her voice can take this world by storm and yes America would have her with open arms since we love exotic beautys. And Korea is very lucky to have her or any other mixed race musicians *roll my eyes* just cant with you people sometimes. Korea- united states either way she is a star.

    • @shanaekt
      @shanaekt 10 лет назад

      and secondly, I'm black and i should know black people are racist towards their own as well. I would know because I am a black biracial girl myself. If your skin is lighter even when your black its looked at as this great thing by some, which is stupid but its true. so the whole world needs changing not just Korea, America and the media, its everyone. I wish Michelle great success and I know without a doubt that the color of her caramel skin will not stop her from shining.

    I totally understand this feeling. My brother fell in love with a black woman and started dating her. She was very nice and sweet, wouldn't hurt a fly if she had to. But my family completely disagreed on the relationship, especially my father. So my brother moved to America and lived his life with his wife and blasian child (she's adorable, by the way xD). It's truly sad how people treat each other just because of their skin color? I hope Michelle makes the same decision as my brother and move to America to live a good life as a idol. As much as I agree that that would be the easier, lesser heartbreak of a choice, I think interracial people should stay and fight against the hate or there will never be change. If Lee Michelle and her family moved, this song would've never came out. That's how America changed, the 90s were horrible for mixed children but interracial couples in love put their feet down and stayed with each other, now in less than 10 years it's become a norm here. Same as anything that's unusual to the eye, you can't stow it away and blind people, it'll just garnish more ignorance.

    죽어 = die
    괴물 = monster
    냄새나 더러워 = You stink. Dirty.
    재수없다 = unlucky (used when someone encounters something/someone unpleasant and shows annoyance)
    깜동이 = refers to black person (similar to N word)
    튀기 = refers to mixed person
    I have to say this is such a strong and powerful music video and Michelle nailed it. Looking forward to see more of her works in the future. Fighting Michelle!

    It was literally that shiver thing you feel when you see someone with such meaning behind their lyrics on top of a beautiful voice, and had beautiful videography. Im glad someone gave her a chance, I'll keep listening for more.

    Who else wants her on mask singer? Where she can sing without any judgement about her skin or her race. Her voice can do the talking for her.
