Great content as always! As someone who has kept off 70 lb for 25 years, everything you said is spot on. Our society is so obsessed with quick fixes and it backfires every time. People always tell me I have such good willpower but it was just a slow and steady lifestyle change, new habits, and patience in the process.

The biggest mistake I made was cutting carbs. Led to years of yoyo dieting and simply was not a sustainable way to live. Now I eat complex carbs which has stopped me binge eating and fuels my weight and cardio work outs. Wish i started years ago!!!

Thank you for this. I thought keto was the way until I noticed it triggered the harshest binges.

Yes! I never add my exercise cals in my daily budget but if I go over in eating by a couple cals I don't get too upset because I know I worked out

Hi Michelle your videos worked for me as you say it has to be something you can stick to for life so I took my time and 12 months later I’m 35 pounds lighter and working my way towards eating 2000 maintenance calories a day whilst trying to build muscle (I am very short).

Thank you for these reminders. I have friends who are doing every single one of those mistakes. Just have to smile and nod as they talk about how much weight they've lost. I'm 6 months into a body recomp journey. Seeing changes, but definitely have a healthier relationship with food - especially those delicious carbs 😄

Love this!! Yes to each their own, you stay on your journey and don’t compare yourself to anyone else! Sounds like you are crushing it and of course YES those delicious carbs 😋😋😋

Wow Michelle, thank you so much for saying all of this. I had such a bad workout today because my body was asking me to keep sleeping and resting but I pushed it and made myself workout, only because I didn't want to miss a day, looking for that perfection you mentioned. hearing you say how we are only humans and we can skip a day if need to and enjoy life, this gives me so much freedom. love your videos. thanks.

I have learned so much from you and I am glad to see you again! ALL THIS is what I did when I started 2020…within 1 year I lost weight exactly like as you said (quick shakes, cardio and no real good barely)… 2022 came in me gaining quickly and 2023 was me learning EVERYTHING wrong I did. 2024 is about me fixing my body, what is good for me and helps me feel and be good mentally and physically. It’s hard to build/tone after all the flappy skin 😢 TY ❤

Michelle, Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and expertise! Also, thanks for addressing the calories added back with exercise. Deep down I knew not to eat them, so it's good I don't. I have been on my weight loss journey now for 4 weeks and it's a good feeling to know this time I am doing things in a more realistic sustainable way. I have tried many ways to lose weight, only put it back on (and some) and feeling like a failure. Today, I am eating whole foods within my calorie deficit while doing cardio and strength training. This time I am focussed on progress, not perfection and just trying to enjoy the journey. I am amazed at how much progress I've made! Even though the scale doesn't show but 7lbs lost, I feel so much better...more energy, not feeling hungry, clothes are fitting looser, and my workouts are improving each day. No more weight loss mistakes for me!!! Keeping it REAL!!!

    Hi Michelle! 🌼
Thank you for another informative video!
You always offer some advice that I can use and work with.
As an “ex” yo-yo dieter I can admit I did some of these…..argh!!
I learned the hard way, but I did learn and I’m stilling learning.
IMO you’re NEVER too old to learn anything, especially concerning our health.
By managing my weight loss correctly I’ve taken off 90 lbs and have kept it off.
I’m still working on losing more weight, I just need a bit more to hit my goal.
Slow and easy and wisely, it is the only way for me from now on.
I appreciate your videos, they’re so helpful…..THANK YOU for taking the time to post them.
Have a great evening with your family! 🌺

I am always sabotaging my weight loss by binging I guess I am trying to achieve perfection. I just don’t want to overeat I feel like I have no control once I eat a sweet treat

    • @MichelleRoots
      @MichelleRoots  10 месяцев назад +1

You are not alone, hence why I felt the need to make this video :). I hope some of the tips I provided will help you on your journey. My best advice is to remember it's ok to have a sweet treat once and a while and you didn't ruin your progress. Right back on track after that. Cravings are normal, but also important to look into why you are getting cravings etc.. possibly need more daily calories or more protein intake daily? Drink more water etc... I hope this helps :)

Another thing that I’ve realized, while tracking my macros on a bulk is that food label calories are way off. My food tracker would tell me that I ate 2200 cal, but when I did my own math on the macros, it was often around 200 cal more. For me, that’s not an issue, since I’m bulking, but for someone who is trying to lose weight, being unaware that you are eating 200 cal more can really affect progress. I plan on going into a deficit in the spring, so I’m glad I figured that out.

I was wondering what your thoughts on a realistic fat percentage goal would be? I'm 5 foot 8 inches, 68 years old, and at present fat percentage is 31.1%. I've heard a lot about, and I'm sure everyone else has as well, about aiming for 25%. Is this realistic and healthy? What are your thoughts? Inquiring minds would like to know. Have a beautiful day.🏋‍♂

How can I not lose muscle tone without exercising? I can’t exercise because of my health. I have severe degenerative arthritis in my knees ,ankle ,shoulders, wrist, back, etc. when I do walk for shopping etc I have to take a day or two to recover. I can’t even lift my arms sometimes to comb my hair because shoulder pain. So what a person to do🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️. I try not to complain because I thank god for the movement I do have sometime🙏🏽🙏🏽. I’m on a weight loss journey and losing weight but can’t exercise. I have 3&5 pounds weights. But when I try and use them I hear my shoulder muscles popping and pay for it later with pain. I walk with a walker and can barely get up when I sit down.

My sister and I work together at a small salon. My step counter was at maybe 1K steps. Her watch said almost 3 miles.
I said “there’s no way you did three miles in here”.
Not a hill I care to die on so I let it go. But I know I’m right 😅
