- Today we travel back in time to try and survive 100 days in Hardcore Terraria 1.0.
I hope you all enjoy!
You can try out this version for yourself by going into your Terraria properties on Steam and selecting the "Undeluxe Edition" from the Beta Participation drop down menu.

As someone who has played through 1.0, even if you have money, dynamite only stacks to 3 so it is SO tedious to blow up something huge like the corruption
“You know that magical feature that switches tools when pressing shift?”
Haha yeah I definitely don’t have 800 hours in this game without knowing about that
this is just a lie
1.3k hours (1k was from me being dumb) and I still don't know about this
I only thought it brought out a light source, I didn't know it swapped tools in general.
have 2k hours and am just now learning the shift key is more than just the “hold for torches” button 😬
You guys use that feature?
That furnace sprite is so nostalgic
Ye
I actually think this would’ve been more interesting on pure 1.0 rather than 1.0.6 because 1.0 has a number of fascinating differences that make the experience feel pretty different; no damage types, bizarre weapon acquisition methods, the jungle doesn’t exist on the surface at all and is instead a hidden underground-only biome, amongst other little quirks. I played it myself recently and was really enthralled by it
1.0.3 will do?
1.0 is so cursed by comparison, 1.0.6 is no 1.1 but it made a whole load of changes that improved the QoL by so much. I definitely would love to see a sequel to this in true 1.0 or the leaked Beta build.
@justanotheryoutubechannel1.0.3 will do?
@nikman5232It’s closer to 1.0 but it’s not true 1.0.
@justanotheryoutubechannelcompletely agree, 1.0.6 basically has all the makings of modern terraria with damage types and some more expected enemy AI behaviors and things like jungle spawn mechanics. 1.0 feels so wildly different by comparison
You can auto switch to the axe?
Yeah bro there''s a reason the Minishark is the most iconic gun in the game, and it's not just availability.
I started with v1.1 but this is still such a nostalgia trip. I still miss the old waterbolt projectile, and jungle armor needing gems was also so weirdly memorable. Silver broadsword for blade of grass is another, as are gravitation potions flipping your character, and old starfury unintentionally being the alpha version of star wrath, etc.
I'm so happy how much this game has evolved. 2012 was such a long time ago but I have poured so much of my time into every version since.
I started 1.1.2 and its where over a thousand hours of mine disappeared to... made so many money farms and died a million times to oldschool destroyer (before i found out about hellstone damage exploit). I have so much nostalgia for it and the mods that i invested so much time into. Not bad for a 50p (£0.50) purchase.
As a sidenote your no accessories calamity run is still a thing of beauty and i admire your persistence for the AEW fight :)
@onised95 YES! THE HELLSTONE STRAT!
Also yeah probably 1k disappeared for me too since I had to use a 3rd party software so my OS would be compatible with Terraria. Chest duping with an actuated block is also a fond memory.
Lastly, thank you! It's hard to believe that was over 3 years now... I'm still trying to recover from the damage that series has caused me. Despite that, I still might finish it eventually.
@MrJFL that can often be the problem with tough challenges they can often ruin the love of the game or just burn us out in general. As much as a conclusion to that series would be awesome its not worth potentially burning out again :) i dont know how other people feel but i can imagine the sentiment would be similar.
Ill be honest... didnt expect to have this exchange on a nostalgia video :) all the best to you :)
luckily, there's always a way to go back, so if you ever somehow get bored of the newer versions, you can just try something like this
playing 1.1 at launch made me genuinely love early hardmode so much, especially the ore grind haha. such an awesome patch
I’m not sure which is more surprising. That you managed to cram 100 24-minute day cycles into 17 minutes, or that it still feels longer than that.
Most of those have allegedly haven't had much in them. Would have been really bad if most of them weren't skipped over
@xbirdshorts5075yeah Terraria as a game used to be EXTREMELY slow paced compared to how it is now. This was only slightly rectified in 1.2 and changed entirely by 1.3 tbh
@alienxotic5028 well not that slow that 100 days wouldn't be a massive overkill for doing all the main stuff in this version but yep, so i've heard
Your rocket boots experience reminded me of something, in Terraria’s *actual* 1.0 release, not 1.0.6, Rocket Boots consumed Mana allowing you to fly way longer with a full bar, and Meteorite armour’s set bonus was to reduce mana usage for everything by 20% rather than making the space gun free, letting you fly for even longer. Meteor armour also emitted light in this version which is very cool.
I forgot just how much better the graphics look now. Those corruption blocks really look bad compared to the current ones.
0:35 😦 me having hundreds of hours in terraria not knowing about this
I don't even know king slime was a thing until he randomly spawn when im at the ocean once upon a time
7:50
it takes around 270 goblin kills to have about a 50% chance to drop some rocket boots, while 4 full invasions landed you a whopping 63% chance of finding a pair.
Edit: 11 invasions worth of goblins before the first rocket boots drop is a 6% chance occurrence.
I remember playing this version.
I played Xbox 360 verson 1.09 Terraria in 2015 with my older brother. We had over 500 hours in that verson of Terraria. Most humble and fun experience ever.
6k hours here in Terraria...
How have I never known about that feature?
double ad on day 67 is diabolical
6:44 I always liked that hat because of cave story lol
I thought 1.1 was the first version I played, but I distinctly remember not being able to run over 1 block terrain changes, no autoselect hotkey and the crazy expensive armor.
Maybe I did play the OG 1.0 terraria, which was swiftly updated around the time I was playing as a young teenager.
Very Cool!
Technically, you still couldn't walk over blocks in 1.1; it changed in 1.2
All those things you describe apply to 1.1 lol, I started back then too.
i use to be so scared to go to the outer edges of the world cause i didnt want to die to king slime
No health bar on enemies after being hit looks cursed
Makes me want a mini shark only run
new gungnir upload hell yes
Calamity Infernum when?
(Kidding, 😂, take your time, mate.)
@Muhammedkh275 first 2 eps are actually done! waiting to get a couple more finished so I can release weekly lol
@woot7That's great news. 🎉❤
Can't wait, thanks. 👍
I havent seen terraria look like that in a while. For some reason just seeing that semi-circle furnace reminds me of when I used to watch HERO and stay up late playing the early versions
I've been playing since launch and didn't know you could hold shift when hovering over a resource to switch to the tool that corresponds to it..
3:59 Fun fact: this is still in the game, I've had it happen before and I was very confused
I've played a lot of journey mode, and it's hilarious when you're farming for stuff in your world's outskirts, with the spawn rates cranked to 10x in tandem with battle potions and water candles, because he spawns very frequently that way
Man…old terraria just had such a feel to it. I miss the feeling of waking up on a Saturday morning to play Terraria on my Xbox 360
3:22 spelunker potions look a lot like something else.
Bro if you played 1.0 alpha you would've been able to use mana on rocket boots, drink mana potions, and fly for as long as the potions you got!
Man, I do miss the minimalist mode that this is now. Glad to see Red and the team continue to grow the experience. Long live Indie Developers! O7
NOOOOOOO YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO OBEY ME
the 7 terraria gemstones: 6:20
The game was relatively polished and finished for its release version. Can't say the same for many other games
I've been playing Terraria since 1.0. This was very nostalgic to me.
I remember playing 1.0.6 about 14 years ago. And watching yrimir videos. Those were good days.
i remember the rocket boots using mana too, before the jungle set was a thing and you had to grind for the cobalt set in the underground jungle. which was incredibly hard to find, because there was no surface jungle back then. good times man.
I miss some parts of old terraria, like killing the eater of worlds with a spear. Infuriating and fun at the same time. Or even pre-wings when the best accessory was the bundle of balloons.
10:06 this aint no meteorite this just a pebble💔💔💔
6:45 The robot hat is also a cave story reference... And we love cave story!
Man it's so weird to see the underworld without its background
Hold on there’s an auto select key. How did I not know this I mean I have over 1000 hours in terraria and I had no idea this was a thing
Oh man I played launch day and this was very nostalgic to me. I remember watching the dev videos coming up to release, was so excited for terraria.
it'd be interesting to explore some older major updates of terraria for 100 days in hardcore
incredible how much has changed over the years, still love the game and everything theyre adding
3:59 i just had the BIGGEST neuron connection in my life
i remember years back, that this was the way to summon the boss
This reminds me of how 1.1 was such a huge update.
i better see days 101-200 in 1.1
Man this is taking me back to mobile edition
I've missed that sun, lol
bro gave it a good shot tbh
0:38 you mean that thing that I never use?
You’re not tuff 💔
wow gungnir, you've come a long way since you subnautica videos! Making a bunch of good videos recently!
(not saying subnautica was bad btw)
1.0 was peak, I still remember that summer right after my exams... 1.0, getting to hell, the ultimate enemy being basically bone serpents and they'd spook you every time
RIP Hero and the fiery greatsword
Finally a 100 days 17 hours, not a year ago video❤
I currently going through the old version of terraria and doing a playthrough them I am just about to finish off 1.1 and I have to say that the it’s still fun but there so many small qol that make the game good as it so hard to live without them
man, it's so nostalgic
God, this video is pure nostalgia
Man this guy re kickstarted my addiction to this game time for another play through bahahahaha
Nice new video style. Gungoat
As someone who regularly plays these versions, this looks like the perfect Terraria challenge video for me!
at the time i had rocket boots i had shadow armor so i didnt know that they werent normally purple
Me when I edit a lot of the content into a minuscule video
Another challenge you could do is only cannons from the pirate captain or the classless explosives.
I used to use Thorn Chakrams early on because they seemed like such a good weapon in earlier versions. BTW, the King Slime spawn check is per frame and the early versions had a bug where frames went by really fast while minimized effectively speeding up time.
Idk why but Gungnir's content is just peak
take a shot every time he says "progress was slow"
"This is Terraria, and this is Terria"
It’s over gungnir’s using the 100 day formula 🙏
thanks for this dope video gangrene
GameCube makes great videos fr
You should roll this world over to 1.1 and do another 100 days.
Gungnir I love your content bro. You got me back into terraria
you should do an old gen playthrough on the xbox 360/ps3!
Hero’s set… Hero the terraria youtuber
i was playing my first expert playthrough i was exploring the ocean and out of nowhere king slime spawned and watching this video made me realise that it was really rare
So nostalgic
It would be really cool to see a sequel to this in old leaked Beta build of terraria, it’s actually a much tougher challenge than this because parts of it weren’t finished and parts of it were locked off for the beta test. A lot of NPCs have different sprites, some weapons behave differently, some recipes are completely different, and Skeletron is brutally tough as ReLogic didn’t want people getting into the dungeon.
assuming this is real, how tough are we talking for skeletron? like infernum level or even worse
I don’t know what that is, I’m guessing Calamity. It’s probably not that bad, but considering the lack of movement accessories and weapons, it’s a challenge.
I believe it did double damage and took roughly a quarter of the usual amount, the only weapon that could actually kill it before the night was over and it went dungeon guardian mode was the star cannon. Even the molten fury would do very low damage and anything weaker than that would do 1 damage a hit. IIRC, the phoenix blaster and wasn’t in the game yet and the meteor armour and some of the magic weapons weren’t added. Molten armour was crafted with meteorite instead, and Hellstone just wasn’t mineable.
How much of this was because it was changed for the Beta test and how much was because the game just wasn’t done cooking I don’t know, but I do know it made a Skeletron a really tough fight.
I just found your video under 12 seconds
I remember when they added the ability to walk up 1 tile differences. Huge qol update
Now do it in 1.1! A lot more new content with a similar charm to 1.0 :) 1.1 mechs are just so badass.
Star Fury 1 Life A.i
Love your videos Gungnir
10:00 on day WHAT
I love your videos
Love how he’s talking about all these auto select binds for torches and tools and etc . Yet to this day I manually use every potion, manually use torches , manually use tools depending on task . I never bothered to use the auto binds or whatever you wanna call it lol
peak just dropped
it feels like gungnir hasnt posted in years
Next video should be Surviving another 100 days hardcore in the next big version
i love old terraria
Can you make a video with sorbet where you both where skirts and play terraria together
13:05 it's been locked away for a good reason.
I started playing at 1.1.2 and GOD I don't miss it lmao. Of course had an absolute blast as a kid but I'm so glad the game is how it is today.
I think Terraria is one of the few really old games where it's just objectively better than what it used to be, and people almost universally love the new versus the old. Minecraft has lots of people missing the old simpler days, Team Fortress 2 has people wishing Meet Your Match never happened, Payday 2 is so polarizing with how complex and goofy it has become, etc. All those games have a vocal part of the community longing for a return to form. Terraria, on the other hand, I don't think has many people missing the old days. It's kept the core of what's great about it, and only improved on the experience.
@ohno5507personally, i just see it as terraria is so good, people can look past their nostalgia, unlike say minecraft with its community
Hey Gungnir a elden ring play through would be really cool too see
wait a minute...
this isn't terraria 1.0...
THIS IS TERRARIA 1.0.5!
23:25 I don’t know if you’ll see this but if you do, DO NOT use the City Quay. It’s completely messed up internally and breaks pathing really badly, you’ll end up with hundreds of thousands of path units wasted on glitched out pedestrians and it’ll slow your game to a crawl.
just in time for my pasta
I GOT HERE WHEN IT WAS 21 SECONDS BTW LOVE YOUR VIDS
Cool, now do 1.1 :)
Pretty rough title but overall, cool
next survive 1 day in terraria 100.0
terraria multiplayer was crude back then but man the pvp servers for 1.0 were fun
