You could paint the back wall of that cabinet to match the aubergine ceiling then put all white and cream items in it. I would put two smaller couches facing each other perpendicular to the fireplace but then a chair or two facing the fireplace. Lovely room.
Someone in my town makes knitted flowers (for vases) and knitted flowery wall tapestries. Not for everyone's style but it is the most beautiful art I have seen in a while but she only does it as a hobby and they are in very short supply. If you can find someone local who does it I highly recommend shopping local (sometimes you can 'commission' stuff like this).

@@ohmylauren My cat is everything! So grateful I have the best cat. She is concerned I will adopt more felines but so far we like it just the 2 of us. Honestly though Julia fostering kittens made me really want to do that. We recently fostered/rescued an akita and my dad adopted him 🐾 his bark/howl is the weirdest and cutest thing I have ever heard, but at first I thought it was someone being murdered on my street ngl it was so scary. Not sure if you are familiar with the breed but check out their vocals on youtube if you are curious.

Love how the colour of the ceiling makes the room feel cosy. I definitely think it works with the curtains and the sconces that you've put in already. You could go two ways with the lampshades -from a distance, they read pink, so adding touches of soft pink throughout the room (cushions, rugs, etc) could look nice. Picking up on the red could also work, but would be a bit more formal, I think (not sure if that's what you're going for). In either case, some floor lamps/more diffuse lighting would up the cosiness even more. What a cool space!
Yes, the ceiling is gorgeous. I think a painted mural on a wall is exceptionally decor. As for furniture Queen Ann chairs are romantic and inviting. As for a coach I enjoy the ones that you can rearrange from time to time and put different cover on for different seasons it bring the richness of the feel to the warmth of the home. yes to the ceiling! I have a black ceiling in my bedroom and I love it! I've had it like this for like 6-7 years and I think it gives it a lot more character too. the dark ceiling in your house looks so cool and cozy!

Love the dark ceiling. It really pops. I like the couch you have there now, but if you're getting new furniture, maybe something in similar neutral shades of cream or brown? I'd also totally either paint or put a pretty wallpaper on the back wall of that built-in cabinet. A color that matches your sconses or couch cushions would be nice. Good luck and have fun!
I love the ceiling! You should paint the inside of the cabinet the same color! Then you can put gold or bronze antiques in there and it'll pop!

First of all, Honor is adorable. She definitely has a love of music like her daddy.
I like the ceiling in your living room. I’d go with two love seats facing one another in front of that pretty fireplace with an area rug defining that space. To vary the height of things in that cabinet, go to a local thrift shop and buy some hardback books in whatever accent colors you decide on to carry the color to that part of the room. You can stand some up, and others can be stacked with one of those sentimental items placed atop them. Vignettes like that would look really nice in that piece. A small silk plant or two on a couple of the shelves would soften the look as well. I hope you have as much fun decorating that room as I would!

I'm a sucker for a dark ceiling, I love it!! I'm also a sucker for bold paint colors in a room. I just painted our rec room black. We used a Behr paint called Limousine Leather and it genuinely looks like leather. Not too shiny, not too matte and I am OBSESSED. It looks so gorgeous. Our entire house will eventually be in bold colors. Forest greens, cobalt blues, I'm not messing around lol. To me, it brings life into a place. I'm not a fan of white on white.. or white on grays.. grays on grays. It's boring.
As for decorating, I'm in the same boat as you lol. I don't know shit. I just know I love bold colors and hate knick knacks and trinkets everywhere. They stress me out lol
I like the ceiling. With it being the dark brown color and your curtains being the canvas color you could definetly bring in coffee table, and possibly end tables that match the ceiling and maybe they could have some bronze in them too. That can be the first tying together .
The two little light lamps above the fire place look verg cute and have a mood...these days some would take that space above the fire place to mount their tv's 🙄, but maybe choosing a special art piece to go there . Something that will emphasize your love for antiques. Maybe a renissance piece , or something classic like picaso or van gogh, or William Waterhouse.
The 3 entrences to the living room and the 3 windows could be your number code to pattern around. So then take items/plants/chairs/bookshelves or mounted shelves in numbers of 3,6, and 9.
I think the 2 couches facing eachother is classic. The antique bench could do better in a hallway or porch, front deck or something where it gets used but still can been shown off .
Just a small suggestion ...it helps to clear out a room and start there. Sometimes having thinga set up and filling the room can block ideas, and can leav us just shifting those same items around.

Hi Julia! I took an interior design course and am currently also in the process of decorating my new home so I hope I can help :) I think you can totally make the living room work with the colour you've painted the ceiling. Couple of ideas for you: if you want the fireplace to be the focal point of the room, I would suggest painting the back wall that the fireplace is on (not the mantle itself) the same colour as the ceiling. This will help draw your eye up to the ceiling and make the room look bigger. If you keep the mantle white/cream and have the back wall the dark brown colour, it will make the mantle pop and really be the focus of the room. I think two sofas perpendicular to the fireplace would be really nice especially if you plan on using this room as a place to bond and have conversations (instead of watching tv for example). Colour schemes: I think either a monochromatic or neutral (earthy theme) look would work nicely- so sticking with neutrals like you have now basically and you can add pops of colour in small decor items like vases, pillows, the carpet, etc. Hope this helps! And can't wait to see what you do with it :)

So I like the darker ceiling. It’s gives that room a neat feel. The rug you get to replace the other smaller one should have some warmth in it to help tie in the lampshades and the warmth of the ceiling. Any couches or chairs you get, make sure they are something durable!! Kids are brutal on them! Loads of spills and stains. What will be you intention for that space? Will Honor be using it as a playroom once she gets a bit bigger? If not, I think plant stands would look great in there! You can also get plant hangers that attach to the wall. They are nice to keep kids and cats alike away from them. I also think an old school chest wooden toy box would look nice in there. I like that the large mirror got moved in there. Maybe a smaller one for the wall on the other side to help with light reflection? But I love your space! I’m hopeful your Mom can beat this thing! And it’s good that you aren’t allowing yourself to dwell on something you can’t control and are focusing some of your energy on things you can.

I love the fireplace and built in cabinets. Maybe add some decorative candles or glassware? My brother manufactures some really gorgeous pillar and these “ice cube candles” which look are too pretty to ever burn but great for decorating. DM me if you’d like a sample. I’d say the ceiling color is a little dark imo and makes the room appear smaller and ceiling lower. I’ve always been a fan of the light and bright colors. But it could also be from growing up in SB where the homes are often spanish style white exterior and interior and tile everything. Glad you are doing the daily vlogs!💕

Ok coming back to give my two cents on the living room; first off, what a fabulous space!! Wow wow 🤩 So hear me out, I thrive in decorator mode. I’m seeing either a white couch (I know it seems crazy w a baby but ugh it would look sooo chic), or a red couch to match the accents. I love the rug but I’m seeing something lighter. The ceiling being dark is awesome, I love it, but I do think light furniture will pair really nicely. Or a really bold couch or chair to add some pop. Totally my take. I love the space, whatever you do will look so good ✨

I think your living room looks cozy with the ceiling color! I think a boho chic vibe would be so pretty! Some macrame hanging baskets with plants.. kinda love the leather sofa, also think a white fur rug would be so pretty!
The ceiling color gets a HUGE thumbs up from me! Love it!! Maybe you could echo the arch shape of the built-in with an arched bookcase or cabinet elsewhere in the room, or a piece of furniture that has arch details on it. As for art, I would definitely approach with patience. The pieces that really speak to you will come to you over time. Can’t wait to see what you do with the room! Based on interior design pics I’ve seen you post in your stories as backgrounds, I know that your taste is sophisticated and subtle. Also have to mention how much I enjoyed Honor’s little beboppin melon! I was dying! 🥺😂🥰 She’s the cutest!!
I like the dark ceiling at night. But it does look a little closed in during the day. But if you have other bright, open spaces in the house then it works as its own mood

I would stick with the ceiling paint. Stay with a leather couch instead of cloth if there's a spill can always wipe up easily. Above the mantle I would do some family photos and for the cabinet space I would put some under cabinet or string lighting in there to showcase nicks awards. Carpet I would probably do ruggable because you can throw right in the washer case the kid spills anything. Maybe get a couch that has a lounger built as one? Or a love seat with 2 recliners? For the coffee table maybe finding a steam trunk it could be used as a surface and storage for throw blankets
Dark colored walls ceilings, always make rooms look smaller. Restoration hardware is good for furniture when you need ideas for style. Look at 1 of their books. Old architectural digests will give you lots of ideas. Light ceiling with raw or sandblasted wood beams.

I like the idea of having two smaller couches On either side of the fireplace if you feel like you would use them and it wouldn’t make it awkward to sit across from each other because then that would really share the fireplace with the other room that the current couch is blocking off
Also, follow your instincts on the little shelf space, I really like your idea there! Maybe some other of your favorite books and Nick’s favorite books to stack?
I think you should paint the whole room black because the black ceiling makes the room look..shorter. But up to you! Definitely get rid of the coffee table. Couch could stay... would add two chairs or another couch.
5:26 i’m thinking a lot of light wood/ cream/ white or grey! maybe some jewel toned accents or pops of a citrusy color. things to brighten it up but still match the ceiling! i also think curving shapes could look better than sharp/hard corners. hope that helps!

I would change the rectangular coffee table for a round one. My lounge looks so much nicer since I did that.
You are so talented I hate to give any comment whatsoever but I would go with a lighter ceiling because it makes the room taller, more open. But it looks neat as is.

I think a lighter ceiling would open the space:) Gold antique mirror, gold yellow/red/cream color scheme with darker woods for furniture and more plants for a green pop of color
Im not too fond of the dark ceiling. I feel like it darkens the room and makes it difficult to see the space in its entirety especially the beautiful detailing of the fireplace. If you did decide to keep it, i'd say replace the rug with a color that matches the curtains and then maybe a throw blanket and throw pillows with accent colors to match the ceiling so it can all tie together. Earth tones are really good bc it gives any space an airy feel but still gives you the opportunity to add color since they all pair well with pretty much anything. Ive grown to love interior design and agree that this is a good way to keep your mind occupied. No matter what, it's your space and I hope you'll have fun designing it 😊

How is Nick with Honor? Especially when they have been apart from each other for some time....I have 4 month old and my husband is working a lot plus working on finishing our future house and my kid is just fuuullyyyy in love with mummy. He can not put him to sleep for example which is quite sad for him.....but the time is just passing by although my husband is trying a lot it is not the same...any tips? :)))))

Hi Julia, interior designer here! Since you spent probably a good amount of money on the custom wall sconces and really made them something you love I would focus on that as part of your color pallet. I’m loving pinks with navy right now, but pink and emerald is a lovely combo too. Jewel tones with the gold sconces will always play well together. You could also play will brighter colors like pinks, yellows, and oranges for a fresh look. As for the sofa/chair combo I’m curious if you plan to have a TV in your living room or not. That can kind of dictate where things go. But if you don’t want a tv then 2 sofas facing each other will be stunning you could also possibly do a small reading nook in one of the corners or the room. But the 2 sofas facing each other will also help the 3 “entryways” feel less awkward in my opinion. Hope that makes sense!

Love the living room base, it’s moody for sure and I’d stick with that theme. Keep a darker rug maybe gray, black, with rust or red accents. Since the lamp shades are reddish you kinda have picked the accent color for your room but that can always be changed too. Chunkier couches, in maybe a lighter color like the curtains to contrast the moody ceiling. You could tape dimensions on the floor if you are unsure of 2 couches and see how the flow would change. Pinterest is a great place for inspiration too. Hope this helps. I kinda envision forest green accents instead of red but that’s all personal, enjoy the creative journey ❤️
