I think I speak for all genealogists that we wish they had the 1890 U.S. Census. They were destroyed in a fire. This is the genealogist library! Very important place!
Women may still miss out on benefits today. I worked twenty years in our family business but did not take a pay check in my own name. Only my husband got credit for paying into social security, so today, my social security check is half what it should be.
thank you for this! I learned two new things from this…. the things about mary todd lincoln and harriet tubman. I feel like I should have been taught this in school!
The National Archives is every bit as important to this nation as the President, Senate and Supreme Court. It explains to all future generations why America is what it is.
Thats crazy!! Archives can find all this information, but can't help me find information about when I served in the Navy!! Archives won't even acknowledge my questions!!
Maybe you are asking the wrong entity. Check the National Archives website for what kind of documents they have and until what date. Often, national archives wait decades before receiving certain documents, and they don't archive everything. First, you should go to a public library and tell your problem to a librarian - if where you live there are state archives, ask an archivist. Or, ask the Navy. But, I think, people in the local entities could be a better way to find what you need. Good luck. ✌
but there is more because it is too late it took the certainty for the destcructon of the entire human race for them to relent except they didnt actually relent, ever even in the face of that i had genuinely believed that i had contracted a common form cancer to seek help for that instead and wind up my affairs on planet earth
If you care to read books or articles about warfare in 19th century (and before) it was common that armies were followed by women. Wives, lovers - some ladies of the night, or just women who tried to help and serve their cause the best they could. They cooked, they tended to the wounded. Also, they were in the battlefield, giving water to the soldiers. That's why the French (and the Americans, I just found out) called them vivandières, and in Chile they were called cantineras (Chilean here; these ones were uniformed, and some of them fought in battle, like Sgt. Candelaria Pérez). Check the 2021 movie Vivandière, set in the Civil War, and the book Swords Around a Throne by John R. Elting, about Napoleon's Army. ✌
The 60 minutes lady, sorry have zero idea of her name. I thought the spin this evening on how she described Trumps possession of docs to Bidens ridiculous. Either she is incapable of bias or follows instructions to well to be considered a journalist.
An important and often unappreciated part of our government. Thank you
This is the place that that convicted felon didn't want to return gov docs to.
@@yvonneplant9434 Lol, yup
It is a gem, and really should be a field trip for every kid in school
*required trip*
YES THIS. It need to be mandatory and just like we take math each year, american history and civics needs to be a core skill for every year k-12
Grateful for All the 60 Minutes Team. THANK YOU ALL.
Thank you for this informative video. 🎉🎉🎉

It's mind blowing how much history is protected and preserved there. Amazing!
Thank u for this story. Boy how I would love a job doing this. What a privilege.
Absolutely fascinating what lies with the walls of The National Archives.

I believe Schuyler Colfax's name was pronounced 'Skyler,' not 'Shuler.'
Nice
it’s odd to me when people ask “why is this important” or “why do this” I mean. it’s so simple. you need to be factually educated on history. lol
$20,000 for the wife of an assasinated president still? What an insult.
She got $33,000 a year; it's now that First Ladies get $20,000 a year.
Harriet Tubman got $20 a month.
Heard she’s lookin’ for her impartiality and credibility in there, as well as her soul

Hopefully the Oprah event with Kamala Harris is sent to the National Archives and displayed next to the founding documents!
Campaign materials will probably be housed in the presidential library of the particular president.

No, there weren't "so many women who fought for their country" in the civil war.
They weren't official solders.

Doesn't know basic grammar and doesn't know how to use words correctly but knows how to spot an incompetent major network news anchor. 😂
@@mike74hNorah O'Donnell is not the official anchor on the CBS Evening News anymore.
