Near Armenia there are many tourist places, the coffee park, towns like Córdoba, Salento, Filandia, even Pijao, where they sell very good coffee, park of the muleteers, hotel las dancers, for nightlife, I would have recommended the centenary avenue , La Castellana neighborhood, Laureles, sometimes I go to the mall where you were, also a few meters north of the Quindío portal there are good places, also on the road to Salento and Circasia (towns) to the north of Armenia

@@ideasolutions4177 I would say basic stuff, just be cautious with your phone and don't wear expensive jewelry. Also stick to the most populated areas, though it is pretty evident where you shouldn't get into. Most people speak a little bit of english but it is very basic, so try not to complicate. You'll be fine, overall we are pretty friendly over here :)

Just to let you know why the architecture of Armenia looks different from the one of Manizales, that's because there was an earthquake in 1999 that destroyed a huge part of the city (specially old buildings) and the city had to be rebuilt. You should look it up, it had a deep impact in the city and the country at that moment.

The reason, because people are darker in Armenia, is climatic, Armenia just came out of the summer and enters a little winter, Manizales is colder, if you want to go to cold places, 20 minutes north of Armenia is much colder and less sunny, but 15 minutes south of Armenia is totally sunny and hot, Manizales and Armenia are the same culturally and genetically, since their origin is common, the colonization of Antioquia, people descended from Spaniards and Native Americans, some are very Caucasian, others they are very indigenous

I'd say you need to stay a couple days to see the small towns. Take your wife to the Parque del Cafe (amusement park) in Armenia. You can make that one whole day of adventure. I have traveled through all the towns in Quindio and drank coffee at each one. Coffee is great everywhere. My favorite town by far is Salento. So beautiful and so much to do in one day morning til night. Hiking through Cocora Valley or ride a horse or zip line. Plenty of shops and great restaurants to eat and drink with beautiful views. You must go to the mirador where you'll be higher than some birds and have the best view of the mountains, the valley, and flowing river. Filandia is great too, a place they have set up a scenery from movie Encanto to take pictures and eat at Tuk Tuk Restaurant Bar where they serve a variety of Asian inspired drinks and dishes. Armenia is also growing as they are many construction projects of modern high rise office and apartment buildings that will have great mountain views.

Tbh when I visited Armenia I found it to be quite dirty, lots of garbage on the streets, homelessness and drug use on the streets, the people are kinda weird too not as friendly as most paisas. It feels more like a big pueblo than a city.

Well, it all depends on what was really your purpose in visiting Armenia, to get drugs? sex tourism?…

@@Hoolbrooks1984 I am Colombian I don't do those things. I was there for two nights visiting a friend. I observed these things from being there. My friend who lives there says the same things about the city she's trying to move out and go back to Pereira.

My guess is you were south of centro which is typical for the lower class areas all over the world, from centro north is like a well kept park. Argue my point if you like but I've lived north in Armenia for almost twelve years and seen it all, just not what you say you saw.
