Can an EMG 81/60 pickup combo turn a Squier Contemporary Active Jazzmaster into a METALmaster?

- I picked up this beauty for a song on Black Friday, but found the pickups disappointing. Will Kirk Hammett's favorite pickups make this Jazzmaster sing?

Best video yet! Thanks for letting us be part of showing off your amazing guitar work 🤩
This was so good I had to watch it twice!
That's awesome. Love all the detail and what it takes to do this!
I have this same guitar. Just ordered a set of JR Daemonum EMGs, and because of your video a 15" battery cable and a 3-pos toggle all from the EMG site. Will probably do the tuners and saddles too! Thanks for this video.
You're welcome! 🤟Rock on!
Is it worth buying this guitar ?
Good video. Informative.
Awesome!!!
thanks a lot for the great video, it’s very helpful! but could you please add the list of all the upgrades and their brands and models in the description? 🙏 thanks!
Great video. Out of interest why didn't you copper tape the cavity while you had it open? I see another of people doing this.
Active pickups don't have the interference problems inherent in passive pickups, so I didn't really think it was necessary.
If you’re particularly paranoid about it, you’re better off using shielding paint. I used to have an LTD Snakebyte and even though it had active electronics, the cavities had shielding paint (no pick guards), but active pickups are already pretty well shielded. Lace pickups are even quieter and require no additional shielding on the guitar.
my active jazzmaster comes with quick disconnect SQR pickups but they sound awful in my opinion, im hoping to just switch out atleast the bridge to a EMG 81, but i don't plan on doing the pots, i've read i should be good in doing so, hope so cause it looks like a fair bit of work to set it up with new pots and all.
I will say it's easier than soldering up a new set of passive pickups to replace it all but I think you will be happy with the 81, Nikhil certainly is.
Which better tuners will fit this guitar?
I used Hipshot's locking tuners which have a screwless mounting system, there are probably others but in my experience few are an exact replacement as far as the screw holes lining up. Good luck!
@@pawnshopguitarguy Thanks for the info.
How is the playability of that squire?..looks cool.. Indonesia?
It plays really well, and it's actually from China. Other than the fret finishing work it needed it was surprisingly good out of the box
Killer guitar. Seriously. I had the shell pink. So you installed hipshot lockers? Why wrap the strings around the tuners? 🤔
Is it worth buying the guitar ? I am thinking of getting the shell pink as well and maybe update with EMGs and Gotoh.
how are the stock pickups compared to the EMGs?
I wasn't impressed with them, that's why I swapped in the EMGs.
@@pawnshopguitarguy i think i’m actually going to go with a harley benton st20 active or sc1000
They should be good enough as long as your amp and speaker are good. Honestly with all the effects used in that demo no one is gonna be able to tell the difference between them.
I’ve never had to change my pickups to get good tone. Learning how to dial your amp will do worlds more to change your tone than a pickup swap will. Only reason to change any electrical components is if they’re producing a ton of noise.
Hoping this saves you a few hundred bucks. Rock on!
