After hearing a lot of reviews on the Soldano I think I'm going with the Bogner Ecstasy Mini which is better for scooped-mids metal than the SLO. The Bogner cleans up a lot better too.
That intro is plain awesome! I would love to know what effects you are using in conjunction with the SLO mini. I would also like your thoughts on using two of the SLO mini's to drive my 2x12 cabinets on my left and right (wet). I've heard that their clean tone isn't the best. Thoughts?
I cheaped out and got a used AMT S2, the Russian-made Soldano preamp pedal. I love this thing as a drive pedal or a substitute preamp (into the FX Loop Return). I wonder how it compares to the mini head, which has those switches and presence knob. I have beaucoup amps and the AMT preamp is enough for me. Cost me about 1/3 the cost of the mini head.

Hi Chris.. No you need a cab, unless you have a load box, such as Two notes Captor, then you can load IR's, use headphones, or go direct into your recording software.. Love your videos Jamie, thank you Sir. This, with your Helix stomp XL may be a great foundation for a late 80s into 90’s VH wet/dry/wet setup, using minimal gear. Shame that it lacks the headphone out, and at least a crunch-to-overdrive foot switch. Although both could be retrofitted, and would make for a great home and jam rig.

And how many eq's and sound forge programs was it run thru in the video? Great playing. No way that amp sounds that good and has that warmth and sustain
Yes it does.. its was mic'd with a Lewitt condenser mic, through s Mesa 2x12 with some low and hi cut going in.. Double tracked, and then I used an Eventide plugin for the detune and a TC 2290 DT plug in for delay. With the risk of sounding obnoxious, I know how to setup an amp, record and mix it.. I don't make a habit of lying in my videos.. I don't get paid for most of them, and I do it for fun.. If you watch the video I discuss the signal chain plus there's raw isolated guitar. So yeah, that's how the amp sounded in my studio
@@SixStringAlliance I watched it. Understand, so many videos have done exactly what I'm saying. You're the only one with balls to respond so I appreciate that. And I never made any bones about your knowledge of set up. And it isnt obnoxious to say you know your $hit. The EVH tone was dang close. Was thinking about a clean head and driven head with A/B/Y switch. Effects supplied by Fractal AX8. If this thing really gets close to the SLO sound and tone, I can live with it not having tubes for good tone at high gain.
If you listen to the solo you hear the sound. The double tracking is adding width and depth, but you mention sustain and warmth, that’s down to the amp, cab and careful mic placement. I just shot another video with the same amp, but with a Mesa 1x12 and a dynamic Lewitt. Whilst it sounded good, the setup in this video yielded better results with the amp. The concept of my videos is “can I use this gear in a production the way I like to use gear?” I’m always very open and upfront about it. But the isolated tones I feel were good. Out of 4 Mini amps, this one has something going on. You should check it out, i sucks at clean but is a great crunch head.

Listen to the isolated parts in the video.. the tone of the amp is good. As I have explained, I wanted to do something different from the other demos.. what don't you believe? As I said I mic'd up a MESA 2x12 with a Lewitt mic, I spent a fair amount of time with amp EQ and mic position, I did roll off some top and cut some low end but that was a it. I double tracked the parts added a 2290 delay and the Eventide for pitch shift postt. My approach was to see if I could create that EVH 90's tone, so yes effects played a part. BUT, the core amp tone is what you hear. So believe it or not, that's what I did.n :)
@@SixStringAlliance Yeah after watching the whole video I got the signal chain. Like your playing don't think I can be a fan of the tiny solid state amps. It was a compliment honestly
I thought about what I should say here.. Lets take another angle.. First is the amp a P.O.S? In my opinion whilst it is NOT the SLO 100 or the SLO 30 its a great little fun amp with a good price point.. It has a market.. If you don't like then fair enough but its certainly not a P.O.S. Now for the selling out.. The boutique amp market is a very hard place to survive, saying that the amp market generally is with such advances in profiling and modelling. Many big brands move into other areas to survive, or get bought by bigger companies. Soldano was a small shop, and rather than go under, don't you think its great that Mike was approached by bigger companies to be able to make a living? What would you do in that situation? Appear to "sell out" and not be able to afford to live, or design for other brands and have an income? Just my take on it. But thanks for interacting, its an interesting topic. :)
That axis guitar and the original Peavey music man guitar that the axis is based on seem really nice. Eddie took those guitars and then went with fender for a while before coming out with the evh line. I would love to have purchased one of those music man or axis guitars back in the day.
I been with Music Man 26 years. I have around 18 Axis as well as an original EVH. The Axis is pretty much the same as the EVH apart from some minor cosmetics to the body, switch position, belly cut, plus a slightly wider neck at the higher frets, although it’s not noticeable. Th Peavey Wolfgang is based on the EVH/Axis; isn’t bashed on the Peavey, unless you made a typo when writing this. Ed was with Charvel in the early 2000’s, with the art series, which is part of Fender. The EVH brand is also under the Fender umbrella. The Axis guitar is still available, Music Man are launching new finishes this summer. I even have my own version of the Axis that Music Man designed for me, which is very different to the production guitars.
What do you guys look for when buying an amp head?

I love his 90's tone
@@SixStringAlliance all subjective, but most would likely side with the Roth tones.
First Yahmaha, then Jet City & then this solid state P.O.S.? Mike Soldano has completely sold out. 3 strikes, you're out.
Mike deserves to get to retire.
Too much yap flabbin and not enough action!
I guess you didn’t watch the intro track.
Ugh. We are going back to solid state. No thanks
That thing sounds horrible on its own.
It’s never going to replace a valve amp, but it’s a fun amp with a low price point. I also think the tone works. I enjoyed playing it.
