I just happened across this perusing my childhood favorite show!! I still watch it today!! I have to say "Julia' was spot on by both "actors" !! no one cried and sobbed like Julia Hoffman!! I REALLY enjoyed this!!
Glad they addressed the flaws that often occurred on the old Dark Shadows soap opera. From actors fumbling on their lines, to techies and microphones appearing mysteriously on set, awkward fight scenes, the works. The actor playing Julia Hoffman delivered some of the best laughs. So did the actor playing Jonathan Frid/Barnabas Collins. As an old time Dark Shadows fan, I enjoyed this spoof.
I'm 62 and remember being so scared by this show as a kid that I couldn't sleep at night!! This parody was a blast for Halloween night 2024! And I nearly died laughing this time. Barnabas' perfect diction, and Julia's laugh were spot on. You guys must have had so much fun!
Being a boomer who grew up watching DS after school, I laughed my A off, and the Julia character got her moves down perfect. My all-time favorite flub of all the DS episodes was when Josette jumped from Widows Hill and bounced back up into the shot. They must have had Josette jump onto a trampoline the way she flew back up into the shot. Nancy Barrett (Carolyn) explained that taping DS was early days VTR and once they had the the VTR feed up between DS sound stage and main ABC studio the only thing they'd stop recording for was if someone fell and broke a leg or something, hence all the flubs, which in my opinion made DS all the better.
I ran home from grade school to watch the original Dark Shadows in the 60's. I laughed until I wheezed over your Barnabas and Julia impersonations. Spot on and hysterical. Bravo !!!
Absolutely amazing. I've been cracking up for the last 10 minutes, non-stop! Great actors here. Even shot on location! I've just now discovered this and can't wait to find out more.
This was hilarious. Each time I heard Julia's voice it was hard keeping from cracking up and waking my husband! Did anyone ever notice fart sounds close to the microphone? How did the actors keep from laughing when one of them would mess up their lines?! I wish I'd taken notes of all the goofy moments and comical acting!
Amazing impersonation of Frid!!!! Spot on! I can't stop laughing, All of you are great! I'm gong to do a transvestigation on whoever is playing Julia Hoffman, though....
That is great! The impersonations of Barnabas, Julia, and Willie were hysterical! So many references to the show--the 3 scenes with Sam Evans--make this fun for fans!
LOL!! Re: The Lost Episode-I don’t know what’s funnier, Darryl looking for the teleprompter, Helen losing it on camera or Guy’s giggling OFF camera! 😝. As for the director’s cut, I was there at Seaview and participated behind the scenes. In fact, one of the people you hear laughing as Darryl/Julia has his/her face pressed up against the glass of the phone both is me! LMAO!! 😝😂🤣
@@chalicethunderthanks again for your comments. Sometime in the near future my friends who made this video will be guests on Penny Dreadful’s “Terror at Collinwood” and will discuss its creation. Please keep checking RUclips for the podcast. 😊
I must say that you guys really do seem to capture the personalities of the original characters, but I must give extra credit to the way this guy immitates Barnabas. Not only does he speak as he did, but he looks like a younger version of Barnabas Collins. The guy narrating, looks like a young Willie Lumus.
This is so funny!! I really enjoyed it. The actors did a great job with their impersonations, especially the ones who played Barnabas and Julia. They nailed it!! I am a Barnabas and Julia fan so I only wish they would have gotten together!!!
Laugh riot! What a hoot!!! Only 'Dark Shadows' fans can truly appreciate the unintentional humor of the original series. Darryl Schaffer was deliciously wicked as Barnabus Collins!
I'm a fan of the original series, and this is so funny. if you closed your eyes and listened you would swear it was Barnabas and Julia. Great video, loved it.
Bravo! You must have had a lot of fun making this, and to be able to use Carey Mansion--I'm envious. Only, I kept looking for the not as parody TV shows reoccurring bloopers microphone, cameraman, walk-ons, crew incidentals. Hahaha.
What a treat to see this again -- and to see myself with a single chin! I remember how that wig (which looked more like a poor attempt at taxidermy than human hair) just wouldn't stay put. I also remember my skirt flying up during a fight scene with Tracy, and me tugging (always tugging!) on those gloves and a comment I made about Barnabas while doing so. Imagine THAT on an outtake reel! Thank you, Guy, for making me laugh today, My dogs are actually looking at me with concern!
I like this, because it is on location. The Curtis production pretty much abandoned any use of location shots after a while. This was actually acted on site.
Who else has seen episodes 1 through 211? I think one of those went missing. Back then the show was about the "dark secret" (shadow) of Elizabeth having killed her husband and buried him in the basement, with grifters blackmailing her and her brother's ex wife going mad. A ghost of Josette in the old house was introduced around episode 165 give or take.
I couldn't stop watching out of fascination with how the voices were SPOT ON! Barnabus picking his nose had me rolling. Does anyone know if he ever acknowledged that getting caught on tape? If I were doing a parody, the two things that oddly stick out to me is that for Maggie Evans, everything is solved with a cup of coffee. For Julia Hoffman, a full exam and diagnosis is made on merely checking the pulse. She gave out sedatives like candy. And now I'm REALLY going to date myself by stating a pay phone didn't cost a a quarter in the late 60's, it was a dime. Yep, I remember. This was so fun to watch.
Yeah, we considered that when we came up with that line, that calls in ‘67 were .10 cents and not .25, but Julia saying 25 sounded funnier than saying 10. 😉😝👍
Now it's all your fault, Darryl Schaffer for your life everlasting life. Whyyyyyyyy?!!!!!! Because all of because your hilarious blaming acting, I'm never going to stop laughing as long as I've live.
