It's hard to ask if it's worth $30 but what do you think? I'm thinking about using this to get me in the area and finishing it off with an ultrasonic. We do only commercial so we repair everything

My honest opinion, when it comes to halogen spend cheap. If you look hard enough on Amazon you don’t have too by this elittech model. You can get this same leak detector cheaper with a different name branding because sits just Chinese manufacturers slapping a different name on it. I would be frustrated trying to use this to find leaks, I would use it to CONFIRM leaks. Use your soapy bubbles first, if you see bubbles dry that area off and try and use the leak detector to pin point the exact area if you’re unsure. You can use this leak detector but it’s just a halogen which I’m thinking means it reacts to UV light produced at the leak detectors tip. I’m thinking if it even sees past leaks oil it will go off. Did you see how sensitive it was? If I touch my hand with it the detector goes off you have to hover it away from the surface. DO NOT spend even 100$ on a HALOGEN leak detector. Save your money. Buy this or another cheaper halogen leak detector combine it with soapy bubbles and your ultrasonic (ultrasonic is better) and save up enough money to either buy a heated diode leak detector from field piece, or any other brands. Maybe even push your company to provide you and other technicians with that DTek stratus leak detector that was like almost 2000$ It I’m remembering right.

Essentially this exact model isn’t really worth 30$ because it’s a rebadged Chinese leak detector. You can find it cheaper under another brand name but it looks the same. So In away YES buy it but for cheaper. And use it as a confirmation leak detector until you have enough money to buy a heated diode from fieldpiece or somebody else. But honestly push your employer to provide y’all with quality leak detectors. They should be providing you guys vaccum pumps, recovery machines, quality leak detectors etc if they value you guys enough.

In all honesty if a cheap detector finds a leak good enough I'm just gonna use it plus I'm just starting off on my HVAC journey so I don't need the highest newest tech just yet

Are you blind? It’s not wet because refrigerant oil anymore, I sprayed soapy water on there the test was to demonstrate how sensitive it was in the general area vs on point right on the leak. Leak was easy to find without the tool.
