If you can find it, Mike Smith was guest on the tonight show just months before his accident, He was at the Piano and played several DC5 hits as the show went into breaks. His voice was great that night.

I was about 11 years old when the Beatles came to the USA. I became an instant fan, but when the Dave Clark 5 showed up, I quickly switched. I loved their stage presentation, and I love their music. It was so different. I loved Mike's vocals, and each one's contribution to the whole. I so loved Dennis's saxophone playing. I hated when they broke up. My heart was so sad to hear of Mike and Dennis passing. These kids of today need to give a listen to this music. It was wonderful back in my day and it's still so wonderful today. So happy I found this. Thank you so much!! Deme in Bama.

Sounds like we're the same age. Yup, when the DC5 turned up on Sullivan after three weeks of The Beatles, I couldn't not think, "This it IT!!!" The Beatles have remained my #1, but I got Mom to buy me every DC5 single that came out over those few years! I don't know what Dave Clark's problem is, but those albums need to be reissued. Should'a been done YEARS ago, really.

Actually the best player, was Mike Smith who, according to the liner notes on the Dave Clark Return! lp, was on his way to being a concert pianist. He wrote and sang lead on all of the big hits as well. Dave never really took his playing all that seriously, he did what he did and that's about all there is to it.
For the rest, it sure was a rocking band! Btw- They had more appearences on the Ed Sullivan Television Show than the Beatles or any other Brit bands for that matter. HeyTom, great job with this!

Hi John! Massapequa here. I've learned thru some DC5 sites that (regardless that Dave took credit) Ron Ryan wrote many of their hits including Because, Bits and Pieces, Sometimes and many more. And Bobby Graham played drums on many of their biggest hits. I can live with that because the whole band was so great. I agree that's its a shame there are practically no live performances. One of the downsides of that is that after all these decades of listening to their music, I still can't pick out voices and who's singing what except for Mike Smith's distinctive voice. There are some opportunities to hear some live songs (ruclips.net/video/imKauomnRag/видео.html ) and Everybody Knows (the other one) sung by Lenny. Otherwise, all five are singing many songs in lip sync clips, even two part harmonies! Ha ha.

I also read somewhere that the lack of product in the market place was one factor in not getting into the RNRHOF sooner than 2008.
