If you can find it, Mike Smith was guest on the tonight show just months before his accident, He was at the Piano and played several DC5 hits as the show went into breaks. His voice was great that night.

I was about 11 years old when the Beatles came to the USA. I became an instant fan, but when the Dave Clark 5 showed up, I quickly switched. I loved their stage presentation, and I love their music. It was so different. I loved Mike's vocals, and each one's contribution to the whole. I so loved Dennis's saxophone playing. I hated when they broke up. My heart was so sad to hear of Mike and Dennis passing. These kids of today need to give a listen to this music. It was wonderful back in my day and it's still so wonderful today. The Beatles have remained my #1, but I got Mom to buy me every DC5 single that came out over those few years! I don't know what Dave Clark's problem is, but those albums need to be reissued. Should'a been done YEARS ago, really.

We’re coming up to the 60th anniversary of the arrival in the U.S of this dynamic band. Could not resist listening to this again to celebrate. I was 12 and am still a big fan of their music 🎶🥰🎶 and that voice of Mike Smith still makes my heart skip a beat! Those were the days!
The Dave Clark five started the whole flashy colorful Mod clothing trip in London and they had 3 inch French heels on their boots instead of the usual 2 inch Cuban heels We have those boots and heels loud and clear on their recordings too - ! Their hair cuts were not bangs like the Beatles - But what they called the " Spike" named after Dave Clark's dog Spike !

These songs are all very familiar to me because I grew up listening to them. The DC5 were far better musicians technically than most of the other British Invasion artists in the 60’s…👍👍👍👍
Actually the best player, was Mike Smith who, according to the liner notes on the Dave Clark Return! lp, was on his way to being a concert pianist. He wrote and sang lead on all of the big hits as well. Dave never really took his playing all that seriously, he did what he did and that's about all there is to it. For the rest, it sure was a rocking band! Btw- They had more appearences on the Ed Sullivan Television Show than the Beatles or any other Brit bands for that matter. HeyTom, great job with this!
"I Need You, I Love You" would have made a great follow up for "Can't You See That She's Mine"! I had the whole catalog. Every single (even the most obscure), every Epic LP and a couple of foreign albums I picked up in Asia back in 1969 and 1970 (not released in the USA). Thanks for the fabulous job of putting all this together, and for the sole purpose of sharing with strangers from all over the world! Thank you very much!

That’s literally the only live recording on video. I never could match a voice to a face except of course Mike. So Denny sings in 19 Days and I know that Lenny does most of the harmonies with Mike. I still don’t know if Rick really sings. I bought two DC5 books that are now available but they neglect to even mention it.

Hi John! Massapequa here. I've learned thru some DC5 sites that (regardless that Dave took credit) Ron Ryan wrote many of their hits including Because, Bits and Pieces, Sometimes and many more. And Bobby Graham played drums on many of their biggest hits. I can live with that because the whole band was so great. I agree that's its a shame there are practically no live performances. One of the downsides of that is that after all these decades of listening to their music, I still can't pick out voices and who's singing what except for Mike Smith's distinctive voice. There are some opportunities to hear some live songs (ruclips.net/video/imKauomnRag/видео.html ) and Everybody Knows (the other one) sung by Lenny. Otherwise, all five are singing many songs in lip sync clips, even two part harmonies! Ha ha.

I only know this from reading an interview with Lenny in the 2009 Spring edition #28 of Ugly Things Magazine. It’s worth having if it’s still available for sale.

(maybe) As a musician I also wonder what else was going on with the recording ? Sounds like a doubling of piano and Baritone bass and other stuff. Great tune !!
When The Beatles Rubber Soul came out it was all over for the DC5. They couldn't adapt. Love the look at 15:00 but it just wasn't happening for them then.

I don’t think all the albums were ever released, I could be wrong. I stumbled upon this mp3 album with most of their songs many years ago, looks like a Russian bootleg. Seems like Dave passed up golden opportunities by not releasing the albums on all the formats thru the years.
@JimAndDeePatton Agree 100% He pulled the rug out from under us fans because he wanted to do something else... but I guess he was laughing all the way to the bank! I also read somewhere that the lack of product in the market place was one factor in not getting into the RNRHOF sooner than 2008.

Teenage party’s were danced mainly with Dave Clark Five and The Beach Boys music and songs before you even heard of “Meet the Beatles”.

I don’t think all the albums were ever released, I could be wrong. I stumbled upon this mp3 album with most of their songs many years ago, looks like a Russian bootleg. Seems like Dave passed up golden opportunities by not releasing the albums on all the formats thru the years.

Agree 100% He pulled the rug out from under us fans because he wanted to do something else... but I guess he was laughing all the way to the bank!
I also read somewhere that the lack of product in the market place was one factor in not getting into the RNRHOF sooner than 2008.
