Today, I'd like to take you to the Louvre Museum to see the exhibition "Revoir Van Eyck- La Vierge du Chancelier Rolin" (Seeing Van Eyck again - The Virgin of Chancellor Rolin), held in the Salle de la Chapelle.
The exhibition doesn't last very long, coming to an end on June 17.
The word "revisit" is certainly appropriate, but it would be more accurate to speak of a "re-visitation" of the work.
La Vierge du Chancelier Rollin - had not been restored since 1800.
Today, the painting reveals unsuspected details, hidden by layers of oxidized varnish, thanks to a masterly restoration job.
So don't worry - the approach is not off-putting, and you won't be drowned in the whys and wherefores of restoration - that's not the approach of this exhibition.
This exhibition poses a series of questions to guide your understanding of this complex work, which is one of the Louvre Museum's most famous yet little-known paintings.

Très intéressante et très plaisante votre explication. J'ai déjà réservé nos billets. J'adore la peinture flamande, notamment Van Eyck et Van der Welden. Où a été restauré le tableau ? À l' Irpa à Bruxelles ?

L’autoportrait au turban rouge est-il le premier autoportrait connu dans l’ histoire de l’art?(représenté seul et non pas dans une scène ?)
L'Autoportrait au ruban rouge de Jan van Eyck est souvent considéré comme l'un des premiers autoportraits individuels dans l'histoire de l'art occidental. Bien que d'autres artistes aient pu réaliser des autoportraits avant lui, celui de van Eyck est particulièrement remarquable en raison de son réalisme saisissant et de sa singularité. Il date de vers 1433, ce qui en fait l'un des premiers exemples survivants d'autoportraits dans l'art européen. Cependant, il est difficile de dire avec certitude s'il est le tout premier, car il peut exister des exemples antérieurs qui n'ont pas survécu ou qui n'ont pas encore été découverts.

@@CB-so7zxComme je le disais dans ma précédente réponse c’est une supposition. Cependant la qualité de ce portrait est tout à fait en adéquation avec le talent de Van Eyck.
Mais en effet aucune preuve certaine.
