I've viewed many of your videos. Awesome content and power packed with information which I've been able to use in my fishery here in coastal NC. Congratulations on 100,000 subscribers.
Congrats on the 100K well deserved. I just caught my personal best flounder the day after the storm, it was a 23inch 4.25lb fish off the surf in NJ! I started using bucktails exclusively this year for fluke and I’ve caught more this year then any other. Thank you for the knowledge, you have definitely helped me grow as an angler.
John, you deserve that award more than most. The highest quality, no gimmick, straight to the point fishing info out there (all platforms considered). You have had a profound impact on me. Thank you
Hey thanks so much for these videos they are so informative...I used they set up with bucktail with gulp grub and sand eel teaser and went to local dock and caught 10 fluke in little over hour 3 keepers and one monster that I dropped at dock...,
Congrats! I just was fishing same area of your previous video in the bay with my buddy and we were almost ran over some speed boat... Same circumstance - the guy sees us and basically drives 20 feet away (I can’t believe it was unintentional) we were off main traffic area...
Hey John, can you make a video on how to open a *** damn package of Berkeley gulp without completing ripping the ziplock off of one side and leaving gulp juice all over your pants... love your vids and don’t leave us for Florida completely!!!
Congratulations Mr. Skinner on your accomplishment in getting 100k subscribers . Continue giving us great videos on how to for the different species of fish. Thank you so much.
Sea robin highly prized as food in France, the call it the gurnard. Andrew Zimmern did a spot on one of his shows about catching, cooking and eating searobins. Fried robin in red sauce over pasta!
Bay wading is one of the most satisfying methods of fishing. In my younger days I used to wade the sound near Wading River or both Fire Island and Jones Inlet.
John, I couldn't help noticing like almost all flukes were caught on upper hook baited with sand eel . I've couple of thoughts then. Have you ever tried a drop-shot style or Carolina rigs there? The second one is, could change of your lure to a 10 or 20 gr microjig or a sinking or suspended hard-bait make a difference and fend off those pesky sea robins? Thanks.
The searobins will hit everything. Normally I get close to a 50:50 split with the bucktail/teaser, but I do notice they really go after that sandeel on a plain hook more than anything in these shallow casting settings. Have not done dropshot or carolina rig.
Hi John a fellow fisherman told me that the rapid jigging attracts the sea robins, and if you instead employ a very slow retrieve with occasional but very brief rapid retrieves, tap tap or tap tap tap, and back to very slow again, you are less likely to get the attention of the sea robins. I have tried it myself and it seems to make a difference. I was wondering if you've ever tried this or something similar.
John Skinner Fishing after using the 7ft medium size rod, I now see why you use light bucktails. I used 1/4-3/4oz bucktails today and had some good short size fluke action.
@Steven GENNERO Bootz depending on the size lure ur using. Anything over 2.5oz would put somewhat stress onto the rod in my opinion. I use a medium heavy and buck tails under 2ish seem ok
Congrats John! Just Finished your book striped pursuit and it was great. It’s helped bump my summer numbers up and can’t wait to apply this knowledge to the fall striped run!
Hey John, congrats on 100K+! Thanks for teaching us how this is done, we've learned so much from you over the years and really appreciate it. Stay safe!
congrats! i love watching your channel. since it's fluke season i am trying to go fishing soon . i am really curious where you are fishing at exactly if you can share. i am in ny too so i am looking for some good spot for fluke in long island. thanks for sharing your greatness ^^
Congrats! There should be an award for best educational channel on RUclips. You deserve that too. And thanks for all you do. Enjoy your books as well. Tight lines.
Think most people throw them back so there is over population, and of course the bellies are the best all around bait on earth, ty for the video i know that exact location also a great black fish area come Sept.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing yeah that's why I asked. I'm familiar with the bridge and was hoping there was beach access. I'm Brookhaven town though. I'm going to have to look into getting a kayak.
What was the water temp on this trip please? Will the Fluke leave the bay and head for the ocean at a certain water temp? Thanks for all the helpful info
Congratulations John
Well deserved award. Lot's of work, time and effort, Congratulations.

Love the content........
Love the channel, congratulations. Got some big fluke off one of the big islands in Rhode, wink wink this past Sat!
We just returned happy from a spot like you describe :-)
@@JohnSkinnerFishingBlock? Haha thanks again John.
When there are too many Sea Robins, I grab the ultralight and I fish for Sea Robbins.

Uggh. I've done some swearing at that myself.

Just bought this exact rod but a 7ft Medium to match my Penn Clash ii 4000. I am going to try this week to get out there and try your approach.
It will also be a great albie combo.
John Skinner Fishing after using the 7ft medium size rod, I now see why you use light bucktails. I used 1/4-3/4oz bucktails today and had some good short size fluke action.
Great video John!! Just wonder how far can you cast with that rod? Thanks for your time and videos!!
John, both you and Rich hit 100,000, great going. for two of my favorite channels.
Congrats on 100k John!
Congratulations Jone !!! Learn so much from you. Keep on going...
one day i come to Greenport and go fishing with you
Pretty surprising the sea robins aren't more popular with the asain community. Figured they eat them all
Nice job!
Congratulations on the Award awesome work.... Fish on
Congratulations on the 100K award.

Congratulations john. You earned it. I learned so much watching your videos and reading your book on fluke fishing. Keep up the good work.
Congratulations John, and thanks for all the knowledge you share 👍🏻
Well deserved John! Great job as always providing us footage from the boat and shore fishing.
I have that exact same rod and it’s amazing! It’s got a real good back bone and it’s my light setup for stripers

I fish in the Chincoteague area with gulp and the sea bass just eat the tails off

CONGRATS POPE, AND YOUR HEADED STRAIGHT TO 1 MILLION !!!
Congratulations on a hundred k now let's get to 1 million
Think most people throw them back so there is over population, and of course the bellies are the best all around bait on earth, ty for the video i know that exact location also a great black fish area come Sept.
And no sea robins just one dog dish .. I noticed the fluke were spittting up shrimp
Honestly I’d rather catch a sea robin than no fish at all
Searobbings bellies r good for bait
Hey John! Do you need a kayak to access this type of fishing? Or are you just walking out from shore?
On this one I kayaked to an island. If I had the right resident permit, I could have driven to a good spot nearby.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing yeah that's why I asked. I'm familiar with the bridge and was hoping there was beach access. I'm Brookhaven town though. I'm going to have to look into getting a kayak.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing I appreciate the reply, there are a few county parks/old bridge over there that I'll check out as far as wading.
If you wanted to, could you use a cast net there to catch live bait?
I guess, but I have more confidence in the bucktail rig. Years ago all we fished was live and fresh bait that we seined. Then came Gulp.
How to reduce the number of Sea Robins? Eat them John!
I never had sea robin are they good to eat
@@Patrick-ni7bs they are good, you just have to know the quick way to clean them. There are gurnard cleaning videos on RUclips.
Patrick rash I’ve never had them either but have watched a bunch of catch and cooks on them. The French use fish from gunard family for soup stocks
what knot do you use to tie on lure clips?
congrats on 100k!
clinch

Congrats John on 100k grate job keep up the grate work your friend Mike from nj
Thanks for another Great informative video , my favorite channel. Congratulations on your award 👍
CONGRATULATIONS JOHN!!! And many more subscribers to come.😊😊
Why don’t you keep sea robins? They are good table fare!
And that's my point - if they're so good, why is there no market for them? I did try and found them bland. I certainly usually have better options.
Important note: try keeping your line tight when your lure hits the water when casting to better feel when you hit bottom, you’ll feel a slight tap.
Congrats
Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm for fishing n tips to fish smarter
