As a future tech, these conversations are priceless. I never knew about half the issues you all have discussed, but man have they been appreciated! I pray the YN business sustains during these times!🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Great topic! My policy is that I can't guarantee fills done over another tech's work. Removal of other tech's nails may result in extra charges. I've had people come in with thick thick thick nails that took almost an hour to get off! Even if you ask clients, they often have no idea what product is on their nails. Could you try to emulate this scenario on a video for either How Much or Real Time series? Thanks for keeping us all sane!♥️♥️♥️
So glad you did this video 👌🏼 I hateeee working over someone else's work. Never works out and the client blames you all the time 🙃 even with a disclaimer
I work in a Miami Beach salon, heavy “tourist” area. I like that Tracy knows this issue is not just yes or no.... Sometimes I decide to “demo” /remove, but never guarantee if I’m working over someone else’s work. Great tips on how to deal with these scenarios
Yess! I’ve been waiting to hear this! Me personally though, I tell clients no😬 just because I don’t want to mix products and I don’t know how many fills they had prior. And honestly I’d rather start fresh
I would say no also, unless someone contacts me and had an accident with their nails and cant get to their regular nail tech. I would however remove other techs work if asked by the customer
Loving the topic.. I would def work on someone else work, i mean i get the chance show that person what im capable of doing plus i might gain a new client so yeah i dont mind
Not even 5 mins in and I agree 100% with Tracy. Unfortunately the reason why a lot of clients go to another nail tech is bc they didn't like something the other nail tech did or didnt do. My main issue is the nail tech is how you treat me as a paying customer as well not knowing my nails....how the grow, what works best for my lifestyle/suggestions etc. If I've been coming to you for months or even years then YOU SHOULD KNOW🤷🏽♀️ my opinion of course. I would respect another nail tech saying hey I could do it but I want to see what your nails are like and then go from there. Tracy just pretty much said what I would absolutely love to hear!! So with this I would go to her ASAP...ALWAYS!! It seems like she genuinely care about her clients and her work bc guess what that's her name, time, energy and money attached to that!! MAD Respect ma'am ✊🏽
My nail tech will not work over someone else's set. Her policy is to come with bare nails because she doesn't know what was used to make them. She can stand behind her work, not someone else's.
So grateful for this video. Thank you! Wow 10 minutes to remove a set. It takes me a lot longer. I drill down and then soak with cotton and foil. Would Tracey mind doing a removal video?😆Thanks for all your videos. It really helps during this quarantine 💕
Thanks you guys for this!!! I really appreciate it, it makes me think more on this topic of what I really want to do in these situations, I feel I lose all control when I let the customer govern of what needs to happen, Im getting a back bone😆👍🏻
My rule is I charge a full set on a fill as the fill price is a retention discount for returning clientele because fills tend to take longer because you’re removing product first.
i haven't even watched the video yet (i just clicked on it), but from a customer's perspective, either there was a reason i didn't go back to the previous nail tech OR i don't really mind that the next tech"s technique and/or supplies are different. "IF" the second tech doesn't think he or she can work with what's going on with my nails, then I'm okay with them telling me what they can or can't do, and we go from there 🙂 oh, and I just started getting enhancements again after not having them for many years, but before that i had my nails done hundreds of times and by many different techs, so i usually know what to expect 🙂
I always did. I generally file off, I don't soak off, so that was step 1 of never running into that issue. It got money in my pocket. While I was filing off if I saw something wrong, I could make a recommendation on the spot. No, you need a new set and either remove everything for a charge, or do a new set w/ a free removal. B/c I filed off, it was an 8 min removal vs a 40 min soak off.
Even with hairstyling, there are times that we don't work with other people's work depending on product like henna and box color. Those are two things I don't work over because I can't advise them how it will come out because you never know how it will react together so I don't do it. Plus, if it doesn't react well it costs more money because I charge for every process to get to the look they want. So, this definitely makes sense to me.
I generally don't do fills over other tech's work - that's my policy, and I've made it very clear on my online booking system. I've made ONE exception, because the other tech is a close friend of mine, but I probably won't do it again. To me, it's just too much back and forth, and I feel like it complicates everything.
Great topic as always but me as a nail technician I will not work over someone else's work because I don't know what kind of products were used and I can all most guarantee that the client has no idea what products were used so if they are not willing to do a new set then I can't help them and that's for their safety and mine. Thanks for sharing much love always 💅💕💕💕
I did a coworker fill over a set she had. I said she needed to remove it bc she had them forever. Her nails start chipping 1 weeks after and she tx me on the weekend. She told me her nail chipped. I told her I fix it. Then she waited one more week then she came back to get it fix. I did and she never came again. Ppl don’t get it that old sets have to come off after a wile. I’m not doing any more work over anyone’s old set.
Lol I knew your voice sounded weird Habib 😂🤣 I was just about to ask if you're good! Care for you guys so much ❤️ Guy please don't stress Habib's voice out 😂🤣 we need his humor
This just happened to me ! (it was a close friend) Was insistent she did NOT have acrylic. Well, she did !! LOL Also found out there was TIPS under there ... ugh!
Myself, depends on 2 things. #1..Same type, only do Acrylic/Acrylic, Gel/Gel ect. #2...condition of nails, a fairly new set and no lifting then i will fill over someone else’s work. BUT, i also inform them that i don’t no what products were used therefore i cannot guarantee how they will hold up.
Hi, but how come? What could a previous nail tech use that we don't. Like monomer and polymer. It's what every nail tech uses. So how could It not be guaranteed, I hope that makes sense. Thanks
I work only with gel. Sometimes when I get a new client that is wearing acrylic I find it very difficult to remove, sometimes taking up to an hour. I use a medium grit arbour band and have to change it out every 3-4 nails. Could you recommend something that would work better for acrylic removal please?
how can a removal be done in 10 minutes and what should you charge for a removal? An acrylic removal/ soak off usually takes me from 30 min to an hour. I need to know what exactly shes doing!
I did a fill over someone else work and i didn’t like it. i’m self taught haven’t been to school yet just started doing nails a couple months ago. Her nails were a month old of new growth, her shape wasn’t good anymore her nails were nasty lookin but she wanted to keep them how they were. Now me being me i always am my biggest critic so i wasn’t happy with the job done. at the same time nails shops aren’t open where i’m at so it’s free money for me until her nail shop is back open ig 🤷🏽♀️... I won’t be doing work over anyone else work from now on.
that depends on the design, is it various designs on each nail, how many different products are you using, is it build in design, is it hand painted, is it with stones (bling) etc
Oh wow this is one of the main questions I had very early on in my career! I was told yes, I was told no, & when I worked in nail salons, I had no choice to work over another tech’s work per the request of the boss/owner lol. I very much agree with everything said. Thank you for always answering my questions lolol ❤️
Hey guys.thanks for the video. But why? Why can't you guarantee good results over previous products, Why does it matter what product is on underneath, its just monomer and polymer? And polish?, just remove it? I'm a newbie and would like to understand why. I hope that makes sense :) Thanks
Why don't you know if a product might not hold up? What products could the previous nail tech use that we wouldn't? So if we did a fill over our own work, we know it will stay on
Getting the client to send a pic of current nails never works for me. They have always had full colour on top and I can't see if they are lifting in a pic.
Awesome talk: I usually do not Fill anyone else’s work in my area, because I’m one of the only Nail techs that use EMA Acrylic (Young Nails acrylic), and the problem I always run into is that 1: Soaking off EMA and MMA combine, It takes longer than it honestly should. 2: The MMA always separates from the tip of the natural nail from the enhancement, due to prepping and my ProteinBonb and EMA never lifts So it’s really not worth it, and my clients know my how I am, and I can deliver the art work, so it’s rare I get a new client that says “I just want a fill” I just reply “Then I’m not the Nail Tech for you and I’m sorry “.
Have you had customers tell you what you should be charging for your acrylic sets and art etc. ?? I've had customers give me charge options and what I should charge for nails and they are not nail tech they dont know nothing about nails etc. And the prices are ridiculously low! Have you had this problem ? Especially in the beginning stages of doing nails?
Habib, sorry you lost your voice again, try honey & cinnamon. Honey soothes the vocal cords. 8tspn honey 1 tspn cinnamon. Mix together take 1tspn of mixture 3 time's a day for 3days. This mixture is antiviral, antibacterial & antifungal. A great remedy for colds, flu, coughs etc, iit's a great natural remedy. I swear by it. Hope you're better soon. Stay safe and well everyone. 😊💖💅
I will not work over another tech's work that does not work in the same place. I can not guarantee the quality or what product they've used, etc... so it's a no from me.

Love the suggestion, will add it to our list
I had to do a lot of filing on a client i had the other day. It was horrible
So glad you did this video 👌🏼 I hateeee working over someone else's work. Never works out and the client blames you all the time 🙃 even with a disclaimer
My tech tells you to come with bare nails in her booking instructions.
Exactly!! This is what I was saying. It's not fair to you or other techs who just want to do the job the right way.
For sure
i actually love working over someone elses work! then you can show them what good nails look like
Cool

Hey! checkout Naio Nails channel or NailHub channel for how to do a fill as well!
Blessed Hope I would love to learn how to do a full removal that fast also.
Have a look at the YN nail school videos, I'm sure Tracy cover's that subject 😊💅
YN has definitely covered proper e file removal. Greg’s last live on Friday covered it too. He is going live every M-F 9am EST
We have some real time videos which go over removal.
Thanks you guys for this!!! I really appreciate it, it makes me think more on this topic of what I really want to do in these situations, I feel I lose all control when I let the customer govern of what needs to happen, Im getting a back bone😆👍🏻

Andrea Kurjata the young nails tornado bit its about $18 that is what I use for removals on a low speed
Safety bit coarse or the tornado bit would be a world of difference for you
how can a removal be done in 10 minutes and what should you charge for a removal? An acrylic removal/ soak off usually takes me from 30 min to an hour. I need to know what exactly shes doing!
Electric file. Clip the tips and zip the rest off with an efile.

How long should a fullset be with a nail design.?
that depends on the design, is it various designs on each nail, how many different products are you using, is it build in design, is it hand painted, is it with stones (bling) etc
Depends, however about an hr is standard. Give or take given the design

Its a no Could have a chemical reaction causing heat spike. Allergic reaction to blending, and can’t guarantee retention like she said

Awesome talk:
I usually do not Fill anyone else’s work in my area, because I’m one of the only Nail techs that use EMA Acrylic (Young Nails acrylic), and the problem I always run into is that
1: Soaking off EMA and MMA combine, It takes longer than it honestly should.

It can happen, however set your prices and don’t pay attention to them. They will get the point eventually that you don’t need their help
i wish we could get ur products in canada :(
canadanailsupplies.com carries young nails products. You have to be a professional to order from them though. Best of luck.
We have several Canadian distributors all listed at www.youngnails.com under resources - locate distributor
Tracy looking dope af 👌
Hey! My best friend lives in Redding! Plus the Travel Lodge in Redding is the best one I've ever been to! Oh! And Lumberjacks restaurant! 😋
I had another nail tech do my fill only because I moved 3 provinces away from my normal nail tech..
nice
I would personally not fill someone else's work, I would charge for removal and then do mine from scratch.
