    We used to have a deposit scheme in the UK, 10p on every bottle, you get it back when you returned the bottle to the shop, but completely ruined by government policy, pandering to businesses, who wanted cheap plastic for more profit, as for today, councils are part of the problem, try taking recycling to a tip without proof of local ID, plus they make all the money from your recycling, why would they pay you !

    Do you prefer this typr of litter picker over the single claw one? I thought it was too heavy in comparrison

    • @chilli_pips
      @chilli_pips  2 месяца назад +2

      They've both got their uses, I find! These tong ones are good for quick picking and being able to pick up lots in one go. The single claw is better for tighter areas and like you said, are lighter and easier to keep carrying. I've used Gerard's Yellow tongs before, I don't know the brand name, but they are lighter than bother of the ones I have! They might be worth a go! I've been thinking of trying them myself recently

      I did a freeze-frame on one of Gerard's videos (Water Worlds Episode 7) and at least one of his yellow tongs is a "Hillbrush Commercial L33" with angled grip. That might be the lightweight pair.

    Some provinces in Canada have a payment system for recycling plastic bottles but you pay more for items for disposal when you purchase them. We live in Ontario and set ours out for pickup and pay through our taxes for garbage and recycling collection at the curb. In some areas of Ontario you have to purchase special garbage bags or stickers for your bags. Many rural areas still require that you deliver your garbage/recycling to a local dump where you are charged by weight for everything that cannot be recycled.

    Instead of cheering for Chili, would it not be better to get our hands dirty ourselves? I do my daily commute by bike, and my New Years Resolution of 2023 was to pick up 5 items of road litter on every ride. I still do it in 2024. If everybody picks up 1, 2 or more items on ever walk to the bus stop, walk with the dog or bike ride, this makes a huge impact. And a much bigger one than cheering from the side line.
