  • This video is about making a new mold of the paper mache hands for the "Pride" sculpture using this amazing new technique, adapted from authentic Venetian mask making. I use paper mache in plaster molds to make lightweight, hollow, durable, long-lasting, economical, paper mache sculptures. It may be complex, but it's a lot of fun. It's the third or fourth sculpture that I made after I developed this technique, an easy, satisfying paper layering method of creating high end paper sculpture. I've learned so much in the last several years and hope that it helps you all to not make the same mistakes as me and change your art life forever! And, you can spend a week in my studio and at the rancho with us! I always try to make lemonade with lemons and this experience gave me a bunch of ideas for new mold making videos. 😅
    Materials:
USG casting plaster 30 or 45 minutes
    Newsprint weight craft paper
    PVA glue, Elmer's glue
    Scalpel
    Sculpture modeling tools
    Mineral oil
    Vaseline
    Thin plastic
    Home made metal mold walls
    Binder clips or spring clamps
    Scrap plywood boards
    Plasticine

What a great idea! The metal cottles!! Wood always warps and… And it stores nicely!

Yes! I'm sure I didn't invent it, but I've been using them for so long that I don't remember where the idea came from.

Something wrong with the volume 🤔
I wonder if regular candle wax might have worked better.
Always try to learn a little something from any sort lived setback. 👍

Thanks for letting me know about the volume! Yeah, wax or Vaseline, or more layers of mineral oil. 😆
