I had the exact problem you described. There was one bubble tip anemone for about six months, it was gorgeous and I loved seeing it. Then to my excitement one day it split, sweet now I have two! And then it split and split.. and yeah spilt again, and again. Before I knew it 1/4 of my tank was anemones. 😅 They killed anything near them, they took up tons of coral real estate and turned from a pet to a pest. On top of that they were near impossible to get out. In the end it took nearly a week of every night working to get them out, some didn’t make it. When all was said and done I pulled 11 out of the tank. Luckily my LFS took them (no credit) but I’ll never have a nem again.
I’ve got a rainbow bubble tip that is sitting at the top of the rock pile and getting almost a foot wide. Has an avatar chalice and a space invader on either side of it. Hasn’t moved from his spot in about 6 months. Fingers crossed that I don’t have to get rid of it.
I use a long nose syringe like the ones the dentist give you after getting a wisdom tooth pulled to get the anemone foot to release. I squeeze it under the foot and blast cold water and it drops right off.
Man my green bta is one picky bugger. had it about 3 months .. Likes to look like e a booger and any changes in flow its p'ed off. It lost all color after 1month and wasn't doing well. Happy to report in the last 8 weeks color has come back but its a darker green now vs lime green. Pretty trippy guys.
as for u having to break rock to remove them, people have made a contraption thats simple but effective they dubbed a Anemone cannon. its just a tube surrounded by a sponge to block off light around the nem and they crawl right up it to reach for light, so u can take them out easily. they also make wavemaker head covers and overflow guard covers so if a nem gets on it u can just slip it right off and it will move off it and u just put the guard back. maybe get a nicer nem so it wont be so bad if u end up with 12 Sunburst or nexus nems (maybe not for store credit)but other local reefers will almost always be in search of nems... especially those nicer types. whether you sell or trade for other frags having a surplus of nems could hardly be a bad thing. if you dont want to go through the work just drop them at ur LFS just call first lmao. AS for warfare, totally fair and valid points and its 100% up to chance having one in a Heavy mixed reef, Ease of mind having a nem only tank, or i tend to keep nems with mushrooms on small isolated rock islands or covering the floor of the tank, because they arent protruding into the water colom in the same way the nems do., Theyre also both easy to keep and light on ur total depletion of ur trace elements, they can be really easy tanks to keep. but u need to take the right precautions to get there stress free. ps : i dont sugguest nem cups, Slotted baskets with enough flow are fine but those cups u stick on the glass can cause a lot of gunk to build up underneath it causing issues.
I don’t know how true it is because I’ve never tried it but I’ve heard if you use an air pump and blow bubbles under them they let go of the rock in like 10 minutes so that might help with the whole hard to remove thing
I have a carpet anemone in a cup that suctions on the glass and it won't move from there and seems quite happy :D So I think that may be a way to contain them.
New reefers should definitely take March’s advice. Mine always found the wave makers & the overflow. They are definitely unpredictable in my experience. I don’t miss them at all. The clowns are fine without them.
Hence why I've accepted anemones get its own dedicated tank lol. I'd rather not risk it being upset one day walking all over everything. My local store I go to had a tank with atleast 200+. They are splitting and growing so fast it was $30 per any size. And they were big. Like anywhere from 1-8 inches.
carpet anemone are less likely to move but they can grow large so not ideal for a nano tank. Also any nano fish that touches the carpet is a death sentence.
Constant cleaning. Also I'm not sure if you're aware but that tank was only very recently set up. It was a transplant, liverock from another tank so it did not need to cycle. Might not actually have been cleaned at all yet just still new
If you have tank that are mainly softies and coral that the anemones won’t sting that’s fine other than that you are getting yourself in trouble especially with sps 😂 they will sting the hell out of them. I’m talking from experience
So you don't like an animal because, despite not having a brain, it's able to find the healthiest place in the tank for it to live and in the process may defend itself. Ideally anemones should have a dedicated tank yet many Aquarists successfully maintain mixed reef tanks with an anemone. Huh. Your loss.
I have a large Sherman BTA in a 15g AIO. I set a timer for my ATO on a power strip to come on at 6am and 6pm for only 1 minute because of this.
That’s an awesome Idea. Never heard of this. Thanks 👍🏼

Almost bought one today. This video came just in time 😊
I have a rose bubble tip it’s beautiful but I’m thinking of getting it out!
And in Russia they are accepted in stores, and changed for some corals
It's like a mushroom coral. Once it gets settled onto a rock, it's quite challenging to get it off without damaging the animal.
Anemones are my favorites 😅 - Ramón 🇲🇽

You should keep a nem tank only😊
Pattrick waving at you on the aquarium glass

Today you cracked me up! "...hey can i trade this in? No!..." 🤣

i'm starting a specific rock flowers anemone nano tank. I hope this will go well

How do you get your BTAs to bubble up so much?

thank you!
I had a green bta once.....regretted that purchase fairly quickly....it didn't end up surviving in my tank and it's one I will never buy again

Make a Casa reef specil for anemones -- doble of every entrance or exit or water
Only interested in magnifica or gigantea and they seem to not to move once established with an ungodly amount of light
@melevesreef has a trick with a car wash sponge and a piece of PVC to get nems to move.
Also the worst is they can move into a power head or even hang on the back filter and poison the entire tank
true i forgot this point completely
I have seen a video where an anemone was kept confined by surrounding it with some stingy LPS Corals
Would a carpet anemone work in a nano with corals?
No way
carpet anemone are less likely to move but they can grow large so not ideal for a nano tank. Also any nano fish that touches the carpet is a death sentence.
Thanks for the advice. I am new to the hobby. I am setting up a nano 15 gallon aquarium. I am excited and ready to learn more about saltwater.
probably will get too big
How do you keep the back and glass soooo cleam

about a dozen astrea really help

Love your videos would love to visit Canada from Scotland 🏴
come on over !
im new to corals.. doesnt mushroom actually capable of detaching?
yes but wont sting everything
That’s why I made an anemone only tank. I wish this dang Chicago sunburst split..
Feed it
@@thesovietunion6374 oh it’s fed. It’s gigantic. It just doesn’t want to split.
The only anemone I ever had went into the power head on my first tank within a few months of it up and running
Too bad you didn't know you needed an anemone guard on the power head.
Should of called it the diablo blanco
The clowns hosting the open Brain that's I'd say extra open versus the 5 anemones is just this freaking hobby in a nutshell😂
Mine was disappear and i didn't find it to this day
Get a cup for them to be in
Why people call it aneNomes ? lol
I hate them also.

I don’t like them.

Been In the hobby 10 years and only ever had a tube nem. That was a big enough mistake and I’ll never add any other.
Dont add this parasite. You will regret it. Stupid things move into your fan then get chopped up and your system will crash.
