Just wanted to say that I really appreciate the fact that you interact with the comments section as much as you do. It inevitably helps your channel and makes people feel welcome here. I've been into personal audio since the 1980s when I ran an auxiliary cable out of a portable cassette player into a portable graphic equalizer/amp. I'll have to dig up a photo of that setup. My first real "audiophile" set was the original Grado SR225. Wasn't nearly as many choices back when I picked that set up. Obviously I have acquired all sorts of iems and cans since then. Anyway, I follow many reviewers here on RUclips and I have to say that I enjoy your channel the most. Keep up the good work.
In my experience BA treble has more body than ESTs, but the attack and decay are not as precise as an EST. I guess one could call it blunted (hence the less fatigue)
It's soooo nice to see IEM companies bringing more bassy IEMs. There's so much information in that region that is missed most of the time with so called neutral IEMs. If you ever played in a band, you know how bass guitar and kick drum and tons sound. Yeah, for the price, it should've come with EST drivers for sure.
bruh, in ears were all about bass. consumer tuned like skullcandy, beats, and the audiophile-famous monster turbine pro of it's time. we then had the v shaped phase like the infamous vsonic. kz took it to another level. neutral sounding is a recent trend for the higher end, there were lots like ue18, jh audio which were considered some of the top for a while. triplefi 10's were pretty popular for a mid tier price. probably lots of others I left out like sony xba line
Just my 2 cents worth of words. To each his own. As someone mentioned all the bass heavy set companies, what typically happens as stated in the video, is that heavy bass kills the rest of the spectrum. And anyone who has been a long term headphone person before Chifi made its mark, has been burnt too badly by cans with cheap dynamic drivers and bass tuning - with every single potentially bad adjective I could find about what DD's sound could have, they have it. It is not that some people like me don't prefer textured and authentic bass, but they'd much prefer leaner and less bass and be able to listen more of the treble side of the music, than throw the baby out with the bathwater. If you know your drums, then you very well know how hard it is for the same diaphram to be both slow and visceral as well as tight and fast - the reason we have hybrid driver setups is the same as the reason we have the bass guitar AND acoustic guitar. Audiophile tuning doesn't have to be neutral - it often is because we can't always get the same result we desire from a single driver tasked with reproducing the entire spectrum. With sets like the MEST, we can now expect a lot more in terms of simultaneous reproduction of all frequencies in a much more complete and authentic manner in the same way we expect great sound out of a band or orchestra - productive division of labour...
@@watermelon1221 nor did I mean that it is... It was just a general reference that my flavour of audiophile is a more forgiving neutral than a bass done bad, because its just too easy to crank up the low end and throw it out in a product. Yeah, multi driver sets have generally been a very positive experience as well as direction for audio devices to go in, and I do also hope that they mature to a level where we can have bass that we feel for real just like I would hear a live band play a riff on the drums, so that faithful kinds of bass representation can be hand without sacrificing any part of the rest of the spectrum... Still haven't seen the Beryllium drivers do it perfectly, and I guess I'm waiting on the next wonder material for the right bass.
Good video, lots of information. I am keeping my eye out for a bone conduction set for my girlfriend as she wears hearing aids in both ears. Thank you for continuing your depth into the hobby. My music collection is somewhat similar to yours, which helps me follow your evalutions. Again, thank you.
Another great content review, overall the MEXT is a good set, but I'm still eyeing on the MEST MKII, and have a great, wonderful, blessed, positive, productive and safe weekend.
@Bad Guy Good Audio Reviews thanks sir for your review of MEST mkii. I did blind buy it and I love the sound quality together with Luxury and Precision W2-131
Very good review as always. I have one question I listen to Linkin Park, Green Day, led zeppelin. What is the best set under $300? Looking for a balanced iem.

Sorry I’m am off topic, I just wanted hit you latest video so that you’re more likely to see it sooner. You are at the top of my RUclips reviewer’s because our library’s are very similar. Have you considered doing an ideal full listening rig for those of us who enjoy live show recordings? Of course all bootleg recordings are going to vary based on the quality of whoever mastered the recording. The recordings that are officially released by the band ie. Grateful Dead, Little Feat, Phish…I suspect many of your subscribers would appreciate your opinion on a full listening rig for Studio released live recordings. I forward links to your reviews to my friends all the time. Thanks so much!
Hey man, thanks a lot for your detailed review. Any chance you could give a quick comparison with the U12T? I've never heard them, but i know how much they are praised in the community. It feels like thought that the UM mext would fit more someone who just wants to listen to music, while the u12t for stage monitoring. What's your take?
I find you and I share similar music taste, a mix of rock and hip hop (for me also hip hop instrumental chill tracks), but I also listen to a lot of jazz too. Would the MEXT suffice or do you recommend something else? Currently I'm enjoying my Katos, but I plan on eventually saving up for a bigger upgrade.
I got to give it to you when you claimed that the MEST ver 1 was the best sounding IEM when you said it way back then. I purchased them for curiosity sake that you generated. (I was an unsure EE Odin owner at the time) Am I glad it happened chronologically like that? You better believe it. My Odins are a big expensive disappointment and the are not working right. I think I know how you feel about the Odin. I would like to know if you would give your stamp of approval for the EE Evo, or is it better to stick with the king of the bone Conduction driver, the MEST mkii. I appreciate the excellence you put in to your videos
I've noticed that the graph of the UM sets (MEST, MEXT) have "weak" up-mids/treble especially compare to something like the Z1R or Monarch MK2. I do want to try a set that is not as bright as those 2 I just mentioned, but the MEXT treble is even weaker than Thie L3's which is what is holding me back from buying one. Does it really sound like the graph or is there something else?

Yes, CIEM MEXT has clearest vibe during basslines of the UM CIEM I have OG MKII and MEXT

How is the fit of the universals compared with the Mest MKII and Moondrop S8?
Smallish. Bit smaller than MKII S8 is big in the stem/tapered to body area. Bigger than MEXT for sure

MMM, not for me.
Unless the song is heavy on reverb no. Female vocals that's more digital/"clean" will sound flat
