Also Osi it’s about supporting your brothers and sisters too and your family.
That was my view as well. White individuals have suffered even less of society's ills that Osi and we're asking them to stand with us too, and a lot of them have. So this whole "I'm fine, so therefore I'm good" is so bizarre.
And everyone has the right to respond to his opinion. Negatively or positively. Just because you have the right to say anything doesn’t mean you have the right to not be criticized
Buncha Squids Sure 100%. But think about what you’re booing. They’re protesting police brutality and systemic racism. You booing that essentially means that you’re pro police brutality
I come from the exact same background as Osi, a Nigerian born in London. He's entitled to his opinion but his argument is so incredibly moronic. So because he made it because he happens to be good at sacking quarterbacks it would make him a hypocrite if he criticised America? Somebody please make it make sense because its so stupid.
Its sad the way people think in this day and age. No empathy for anyone but themselves. If it never happened to them then its non existent. Or their just racist trash.
Ok, I won't call you a moron that same way you jumped to the label for Osi. But you're totally incorrect here. He is saying something simple, if you give a choice to people in Africa today, and ask them if they want to move over and live in countries like the US and the UK, the overwhelming majority would want that. We have refugees risking their lives to arrive to these countries, not the other way round. He's saying if you genuinely felt it was the worst place to be, then you'd move away, and not move towards it. I can relate to that as an Iraqi who lives in the UK. My extended family back home would do anything to be here and have the opportunities we get. Some of us appreciate what we have, understand the way forward is not to divide the population of the country you move to by playing racist political games, and moving forward to end injustices where we see it through civilised, peaceful means that don't vilify those with opposing viewpoints or threaten to burn down businesses and riot because someone else who resisted arrest and possibly reached for a weapon is shot for doing so. There are far far greater injustices happening on a daily basis.. even in the black community where kids are being shot dead on the streets of Chicago.. injustices across Africa, Asia, South America.. things that will continue to happen because we're told the only injustice we're allowed to focus on is one where 9 people were shot dead in the whole of 2019 - most while resisting arrest and not following instructions.
@@abuibu First of all I called his argument moronic not the man, so please learn to read. I'm not going to give you a long response because you don't warrant it. Striving for better in the circumstances you find yourself in does not make you unappreciative of what you have. Why? His position is “I wasn’t affected by the systemic racism so it’s not my problem”. That’s not a smart or nuanced approach. It ignores so many issues plaguing the black community systemically and erases all context to the conversation
Some depressing comments to osi, who's giving us an honest viewpoint, backed up by his own experiences. Some people just want to argue all the time. Smh...
I live in the city that has more Nigerians than any other city in America. The difference between them and us is they were never slaves in the country they call home. There are tribal differences between the Nigerians but there are no race differences. They don't have white supremacist cops or any white people discriminating because of color, they are all black. So before you make a stupid comment know what you're talking about. The only Nigerians I consider to be Americans are the ones that served in the U.S. military and those are the most American of all the Nigerians.
I am a veteran of the US Army. I am an ADOS man. I completely support freedom of speech, and I respect Mr. Umenylora’s view. I also believe non-ADOS blacks have completely different interest: political, economic, social, cultural, etc. than the ADOS.
Osi, so well said. I am a Vietnamese refugee living in Britain. i have experienced racism from time to time. but i've also been shown more kindness and compassion here in Britain, and have been given more opportunities than i would ever have had in Vietnam. I can never go against Britain as a whole, because most of Britain isn't racist, just the ones they highlight on the news.
@@timothykring4772 every country has institutionalized racism in some form or the other. that's why you always see each countries majority race in positions of power. you'll never see a black person in charge of China or Russia. Unbelievable... it doesn't matter where you're from just because you're not impacted its their problem. Its not always about you but for the greater good, and nobody is dividing us Osi you decide to stand "alone".
I respect what Osi is saying. However imo my personal success in a country shouldn't have any bearing on standing (or kneeling) against injustice/ oppression in said country.
I'm black and would not take a knee because of my fore fathers who fought to make America great. It's not perfect, but we still need to support our country. Bad apples are causing a rift in America
Osi’s take is I’m British-Nigerian and I can’t complain about how America has treated me. It would be hypocritical. But he still got time for his American brothers that are protesting and he respects their cause. That’s a pragmatic position. I can roll with that. Cynics would say he’s sitting on the fence, taking the low risk option/ but your entitled to your take
All the credit in the world to Osi for explaining his nuanced viewpoint. The viewpoint of someone from Africa as opposed to of an American raised black person. I love that he stresses that he was told if he worked hard it'd pay off and now he's a millionaire. Really stresses that there aren't two extreme viewpoints there's thousands of different viewpoints.
I agree with him in the sense what he's saying is, compared to them in Nigeria the African Americans here in America are far more privileged than he was growing up so for him to make something of himself in this country and then protest against it would be hypocritical of him
Osi Umenyiora, was correct in what he said except he gave the credit to the wrong entity. It was the struggles of the ADOS (American Descendants of Slaves) community that made all that he cherish possible.
It makes me proud as a war vet that I got to meet Osi when I was deployed when he did a meet and greet over in Iraq. I can't say the same for Brees and Goodell. I just don't understand how Brees can support the military and police like he does and then immediately cower when he speaks he true feelings...he's fake either way now. At least Osi has the balls to say how he feels and he will stick with it. This is coming from a Pats fan so it pains me to talk so highly of a pivotal Giants player that beat that '07 Pats team.
in the US media one guy would just state the biggest bs, then the other guys go: "YoU dID nOT jUst SAy ThAT" and stretch it to 60mins. this here is an actual discussion, maybe the US media can learn sth from this.
prison mike everyone not in the US says this, how astonished they are at how little we care about facts and discussion in the news, vs empty outrage and looking for what will sell ads.
As a African American man, I respect his well thought-out opinion. He’s not wrong. Our communities have problems deeper than police brutality and racism. That’s just a scapegoat for our anger. Our biggest problem is loving and respecting ourselves. We’re lacking strong male figures as a collective. African American lives have to matter to us first, then maybe the rest of world will show us more respect. Damn if they do, damn if they don’t. We have to come together.
This is a grown ass man, with his own opinions. He’s not telling you that you can’t kneel or you can’t feel a certain way, he’s saying that as far as HE goes, this is where his mind is at. It’s a shame we have all these social justice warriors in the comments that honestly shouldn’t even have an opinion because living in grandmas basement for 26 years doesn’t equate to a god damn thing. But we all have opinions. I commend him for being honest and not falling into the same follow the leader mentality that the left deploys so often. Just sheep
187 Macabee You can feel bad for someone, while separating the ability to relate to that said feeling. Like I’m sure he feels bad for the black folk that go through hardship, but he can’t empathize with the feeling since his experiences have been so different as he describes.
Bless this man, im a 1st generation immagrant from Laos...Vietnam War broke out....America has given me and my family an opportunity for a better life. I cannot kneel to the American flag that represents all of us. Police brutality is wrong. Go to your police precinct and let them know how you feel. That's the source of your protest not at football games. That's how I feel about it. May God continue to bless America!
Its the contrary. Osi is being respectful when he has no need to be. Logic and feelings are 2 very different things. Intelligence breeds arrogance, superiority, and apathy. Humility breeds logic, wisdom and compassion. I'll take the later 10 out of 10.
It's hilarious that most of these comments are against athletes speaking in politics and they should "shut up and dribble, tennis or football", but when some say or do things against blm, protesting or etc, everyone comes around and praises them like no tommorow. I kind see what's up, but I respectfully disagree with Osi, you don't have to be african-american or live in america to experience discrimination and injustice, but not protesting or at least not showing spirit support isn't exactly helpful. At least he's no Nestride Yumga from Cameroon, who pleases the white supremacist, black sellouts and conservative crowd.
This was acually a great discussion. I side with Osi though! Listen to the, words he said, moving, very moving! Osi and his story needs to be shared nationally just like the hate is.
I really liked his side, but the other guy (sorry didn't catch the name or recognize him) seemed off topic the whole time. He was asked how he would consider everyone in the lockerroom's different opinions and he responded with his opinion. I think it's a great question to consider how many people on these teams are being forced to do things they don't want to out of fear of standing out.
The biggest takeaway from this to me is when Osi said "that we [as Nigerians] see everything going on in America yet we still choose to come over here. Why? Because we know if you work hard, the system delivers." Paraphrasing but you get my point.
Only if you can make the White man money. You think he would of had it that good here if he didn't play football and he just worked at a local factory. The whites would come at him for taking their job.
Jason: NO - you do not have the Right to disrespect the Flag or the Constitution. Those are inviolable. Take your Protest somewhere else. Use your voice somewhere else. Osi is telling you how good you have it! Celebrate the Flag and the Constitution it stands for because those Rights given in that Constitution got you to where you are. God Bless.
Man, this is gold. Too bad the media won't headline perspective as well. Both my parents are immigrants and although they acknowledge there is a police problem, they won't disrespect the country they came to for a better life to get a point across. We must stand together respectfully to end police brutality and corruption instead of trashing the colors that give us the best chance at a good life. God bless everyone
You actually misinterpreted his statement. His statement is he is very appreciative to America because he was told if he worked hard he would succeed and he did. Belittling his viewpoint does not help yours, in fact it drives away people who are interested in nuances opinions.
People disliking because they're so tribalised, they've been blinded by the hate they claim to oppose. Osi was incredibly brave to take a stand against what would be keeping your head down and getting on with it. He even said he doesn't care if he gets cancelled by saying it and said it anyway. Today, people are sheep. If you're only allowed to say one thing, people cower and become afraid of losing everything by standing up to this tyranny.
He speaks on a decision made to move to US/UK for opportunities. How people from different backgrounds arrived to US/UK differ vastly(another discussion). Because he was/is willing to tolerate certain things for opportunities doesn't mean another will/should. While there is freedom of speech and all that I find his comments inconsiderate as some may believe that's he is oking behaviours, treatment, views etc towards people not from said country and not look at themselves to verify whether they may have some negative traits that need changing.
Osi made a great point - would any of the multi-millionaire football players who talk like they're being hunted on the streets want to live in Nigeria or Cameroon or the Ivory Coast? Yeah....right
That man just gave the most impactful reality check & gut shot to the racial tension profiteers. "We see what is happening here and we still come to America, they said come here work hard do the right thing and you'll make it, and they paid me back with interest". And everyone has the right to respond to his opinion. Negatively or positively. Just because you have the right to say anything doesn’t mean you have the right to not be criticized
@@FateHasFallenGaming That's exactly right
Exactly, that's why people can boo people kneeling, counter protesting at its finest
Buncha Squids Sure 100%. But think about what you’re booing. They’re protesting police brutality and systemic racism. You booing that essentially means that you’re pro police brutality
Wow! That was insightful!
Thank you!
You think because I can recognise injustices faced by people who live here that I'm somehow oblivious to the hardships of my cousins who live in Nigeria? It's possible to walk and chew gum my friend.
@@daeroniitargaryen8652 then why doesn't BLM speak out against slavery still practiced in Africa today?
God bless you osi you are a true man that won't back down from the nonsense. Keep pushing and let's obliterate the hateful riots and ignorant people crying about nonsense.
Osi has a rare perspective, a perspective I wish more of my fellow Americans had. Good on you Osi for sticking to your beliefs.
Why? His position is “I wasn’t affected by the systemic racism so it’s not my problem”. That’s not a smart or nuanced approach. It ignores so many issues plaguing the black community systemically and erases all context to the conversation
👏👏👏 that’s a great perspective
I learned that there's an NFL UK studio show
Some depressing comments to osi, who's giving us an honest viewpoint, backed up by his own experiences.
Some people just want to argue all the time. Smh...
The same for Jason Bell, which nobody respects his right to protest and making a voice, even respecting Osi's decision.
He is more American than most Americans for loving America. God Bless Him!
great point
Yeah but the UK isn't as racist as the USA. However i see your point
I’m live in America, I see exactly what Nghia Hà is seeing just sub Britain w USA.
@@ajasadisu5188 True the USA has more visible institutionalized racism than the UK.
@@xFFSx the ' institutionalized ' racism phrase is nonsense. Why do you parrot the term ?
@@timothykring4772 every country has institutionalized racism in some form or the other. that's why you always see each countries majority race in positions of power. you'll never see a black person in charge of China or Russia. Just like you'll never see an indian or oriental in charge of African countries etc. get your head out of your ass.
One of the most simple discussions about the subject that I've seen, and one of the best.
Well done your attitude is probably the reason you were so successful ,courage and belief in yourself .👑
Osi speaking truth!!! Thank god there is some knowledge being spoken!!
I don’t believe he will get cancelled, that response is what I would expect from him. I’ve heard similar responses from others like him. I love and respect his honesty and being true to himself
I played football (soccer) with him in West London a few times and I confirm. Osi is the nicest guy in the world and he is exactly the same off camera as he is on. An absolute legend
Stand for what you believe in...
Really stresses that there aren't two extreme viewpoints there's thousands of different viewpoints.
unfortunately, a clown with a million dollars is still a clown.
Dude is right he came to America knowing full well what goes on so he can't just protest
I agree with him in the sense what he's saying is, compared to them in Nigeria the African Americans here in America are far more privileged than he was growing up so for him to make something of himself in this country and then protest against it would be hypocritical of him
Well this is refreshing. Finally someone wouldn’t take a knee
Osi Umenyiora, was correct in what he said except he gave the credit to the wrong entity. It was the struggles of the ADOS (American Descendants of Slaves) community that made all that he cherish possible.
Exactly
THANK YOU!!!
Facts
I can appreciate what Osi said.
Osi doesn't need to lead a football team with many black players.
Finally!! - some sense!!
in the US media one guy would just state the biggest bs, then the other guys go: "YoU dID nOT jUst SAy ThAT" and stretch it to 60mins. this here is an actual discussion, maybe the US media can learn sth from this.
prison mike everyone not in the US says this, how astonished they are at how little we care about facts and discussion in the news, vs empty outrage and looking for what will sell ads.
UK is only marginally better. But the NFL UK show is one of the best on TV, all the three guys on it are brilliant.
I respect him and agree with him.
And that's not going to change anytime soon.
See you in 40 years when we're still kneeling.
Duke Togo Trust me family, I know.
Just sheep
This was a productive conversation between 2 ex-NFL players
He was always one of my favorite Giants
Great conversation! Great perspective OSI! Thank you for your honesty!
Really interesting point of view from Osi. Much respect for voicing it
Osi just just killed it...9ja man always comes with common sense 👏
This is gonna be...... something
Can't believe the NFL posted this
I think he’s mixing empathize with sympathize.
187 Macabee
You can feel bad for someone, while separating the ability to relate to that said feeling.
Times like this you got to reach in all places, where the whole world is sure to hear how we guys feel.
Look at the body language, Unenyiora feels he has to bow to the other for mercy just to speed his mind. That says it all. Mic drop.
You should watch the show. That's not how it be. To the degree that I'm laughing quite hard at the thought :)
Its the contrary. Osi is being respectful when he has no need to be. Logic and feelings are 2 very different things. Intelligence breeds arrogance, superiority, and apathy. Humility breeds logic, wisdom and compassion. I'll take the later 10 out of 10.
Amen Osi!!! It's time for us to Wake up!!!
🤡
This was acually a great discussion.
I side with Osi though!
Listen to the, words he said, moving, very moving! Osi and his story needs to be shared nationally just like the hate is.
I really liked his side, but the other guy (sorry didn't catch the name or recognize him) seemed off topic the whole time. He was asked how he would consider everyone in the lockerroom's different opinions and he responded with his opinion. I think it's a great question to consider how many people on these teams are being forced to do things they don't want to out of fear of standing out.
Osi get ready to be on donkey of the day
Yes sir. Thank you.
The biggest takeaway from this to me is when Osi said "that we [as Nigerians] see everything going on in America yet we still choose to come over here. Why? Because we know if you work hard, the system delivers." Paraphrasing but you get my point.
That Black Americans fought for.
God Bless.
I guess they do have the right
Are you a constitutional lawyer?
Osi is the great guy 🙏
Osi , I wish your statement was heard by more people. Thank you for sharing.
Osi for president.
"I dont protest because its worse where I come from" is code for "not my problem"
Pretty much

Lol no it’s not. Making invalid collations through your own biases doesn’t make it true. #yellowlivesmatter
@@vietnameeseguy I never met a single yellow person
You actually misinterpreted his statement. His statement is he is very appreciative to America because he was told if he worked hard he would succeed and he did. Belittling his viewpoint does not help yours, in fact it drives away people who are interested in nuances opinions.
this won't get any coverage by the media which is a shame. if it does he will be ridiculed
Osi is a breathe of fresh air.
Speaking the damn truth!! So much respect!
I’d like to ask Osi… have you ever experienced racism before!?
I would hate for this to go viral for the wrong reason and someone clipping this video out of context. People disliking this for no reason.

Jason Pierre Paul
Osi Umenyiora
There was a point where the Giants had the scariest line in the history of the game
the nascar package.
As a fellow Nigerian American I totally 100% understand and would not knee either. This is the best country in the world.
Thank you to the NFL for posting this video
Finally! Love this guy!
Osi made a great point - would any of the multi-millionaire football players who talk like they're being hunted on the streets want to live in Nigeria or Cameroon or the Ivory Coast? Yeah....right
Dumb scenario and a deflecting fallacy.
Speaking as a white Brit the bottom line for me is; aren't we all against police brutality?
@Disgruntled Employee I got a headache reading that. You don't like to punctuate, do you!
Yes we are
No. Some people don’t agree that police brutality even exists or blame the victim for it.
I have nothing but respect for Osi! The man speaks truth! If he gets in trouble for what he said, I might lose it.
That man just gave the most impactful reality check & gut shot to the racial tension profiteers.
"We see what is happening here and we still come to America, they said come here work hard do the right thing and you'll make it, and they paid me back with interest".
How many of those stories go untold!
