Thank you so much for a terrific presentation! I have ASAT deluxe on the way. So, this was helpful.

Also pretty effective for darkening pale fret woods is Monty's relic wax. Having used both it and India ink, I prefer the wax. If you have pau ferro, which is really far off from rosewood, perhaps use ink first, then the wax to lock it in better. A fret eraser or steel wool will tend to scrub India ink out of the wood and you'll have to reapply. But it doesn't rub off on the fingers at all.
This reminds me of John 5's 2000s tele. These have a Les Paul type sound, but they have a tele vibe and the coil splits get you a single coil sound you can work with.
Gear heads sometimes complain about G&L's use of proprietary parts. I guess the purpose of modding and tinkering is to install some alternative block saddles from Amazon or Allparts and still end up sounding like everyone else who ever played a Fender.
But I've always assumed the benefit of G&L's parts monopoly is, aside from them being inherently excellent parts, this must help them generate a lot of revenue and they haven't joined the bigger companies in gouging us on guitar prices. Their guitars seem underpriced to me. Brands like Charvel on the other hand don't deal in a parts market or in superficial accessories like pickguards and knobs. They seem to strictly deal in guitar sales, and it happens that import Charvel guitars are several hundred dollars more than G&L's and I'd say about equal to G&L in fit and finish and QC. And both brands employ premium parts on their imports (G&L's parts being proprietary, while Charvel uses Gotoh, Duncan, Graph Tech). In either case, having owned guitars of both brands, I don't ever need to make secondary purchases and cut strings and screw on parts, as I have always done with Fender guitars. Again, with Fender, I always felt like I was just installing premium parts that worked a little better, which Fender stubbornly refused to put on themselves because their thing is living in 1965 forever.

Nice video. I bought one after watching. I got it a few days ago and liked it enough to buy another G & L model.

Awesome Bob! I’m curious if you’re fretboard was as light brown as
      mine was?

J Nelson it’s not as light in color as you described but it’s a 2019 model and needs a treatment that should allow me to get a real good look at it. The guy I bought it from didn’t use it at all, I can see that. But, I have it between my PRS CE & PRS singlecut and the are much darker. I have to say it’s dull right now I will let you now if it changes if you like

Mine truly looked like the color of cardboard...something had to be done for sure.

Thanx for the review, I ordered a used one, I am very curious. Schaller locking tuners fit without drilling on my Asat Classic

I realize this video is pretty old by now but there are two different versions of this guitar. one has an Indian rosewood finger board (dark) and the other a Brazilian cherry finger board(light). Sounds like you got the Brazilian cherry. Sweetwater has both on their site right now.

Scraping a fretboard with a brand new heavy razor blade, will pull a lot of wax type plastic off.

I have this guitar since 2016. My fretboard is dark. Beautiful. I really like the fretboard, and the back side is just amazing. Its totally different than yours. filled with cat eyes. Tuners at your guitar seems way better than in mine. I think the production line changed.
I took it to a setup, expect lowring the action, all was well.
The coil split though, is suck.
I just got the new blues junior. Upgrading some blackstar rabish, ide core 40. Sounds bluesy and warm.

Does linseed work better than lemon oil?

    • @s.h.guitarworks3309
      @s.h.guitarworks3309  5 лет назад

I would say linseed makes and keeps the wood darker. Other than that, I’ve had no problems with either.

You took way too long looking at a dark neck. That is ridiculous. Nothing about playing or how it sounds. I still learned something
.019" of an inch. Thank you. I like the Fallout and the Skyhawk too. Hard to get one.
