The way the camera effortlessly glides over the water, fields of blossoming greenery- rocky plateaus: fucking otherworldly. Phillips most haunting track in my book.
The change in the music at 4:00 just as the power plant with the 3 smokestacks appears is extremely unsettling, and it becomes terrifying when you see those atomic weapons tests at 5:45.
Things has change a long way from the 80's to where we are now. When i first saw this on tape, i started to like this film and this is my favorite scene. It feels like your flying with this and the music.
Amazing movie, with such amazing music, great talents joined forces to offer a particular view of the tension and energies that rule the world, and the human touch, the peculiar human touch... This film caught my eye for years... is somthing to see... and hear..!!!
Funny, I initially loathed this movie. I felt it painted a bleak and impersonal picture. I still feel it's a message hopelessness, but I guess I've grown to accept it for what it is. The simple fact that it provokes such emotion, positive and negative, proves it's a success in story telling.
yeah Im very interested in civilizational development. Such as the first humans and how we grew and changed to the modern space bearing species we are today. To be honest I have great hope. There's allot of work to be done but I think we're realising how precious our earth is. ps: Im not a hippy lol.
@jessiasu Well said. Although I don't see anything wrong with a little mind altering from time to time, this film, and many other "stoner classics," need no such enhancements to be appreciated.
A lot of people on here are saying that this film is best watched while "on something". How about watching it sober? Why do you need a substance to enjoy it, or to appreciate its message? I don't mean to be preachy, it just frustrates me that people don't otherwise have a) the attention span, or b) the interest/incentive to watch things like this without the interference of a drug or other substance. Where are our minds, people? Let the film speak to you!
It was. I watched Glass accompany the film live at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto on Halloween. Loud and powerful. It was also interesting to see old people dressed in suits sitting next to punks dressed for Halloween parties afterwards.
@zanzalot I think it shows humanity is just one of many small forces of nature. Our bulldozers do what rain, rivers, and clouds have done to the land for millions of years. Ask yourself this, with machines and explosives, how long would it take us to create mountains and the grand canyon compared to "mother nature"? Probably much longer, or quicker. Either way, machines are made from materials from the earth, crafted by beings raised on earth. It's a natural part of the world in other words.
The whole movie is great but Resource, Pruitt Igoe, and The Grid are all masterpieces in their own right.
what about the climatic prophecies? he left it till the end where there's a newscaster creeping it all down to material perversion.

The steady shots of powerlines in this film walked so Serial Experiments Lain could run

it is not "in many ways an indictment on mankind". It is in EVERY way an indictment of mankind.
this film is the perfect accompaniment to drugs
Any drugs in particular?
I did. Strangely enough I was able to keep up with the speeded up parts instead of being overwhelmed.
Watch this film while seriously hitting a bong or after eating some mushrooms. Absolutely beautifully amazing.
Превосходно!
Спасибо за выкладку видео! :)))
Life out of balance, indeed.
This world which we have wasted, has kept us very well.
When science now is sacred, who will save us from ourselves ?
best film ever made
@xbandvideo This. This is such a great statement. I applaud you.
0:45 Are these the famous flower fields of Lompoc?

Вы, главное адептов бородины из дома 2 слушайте и все вас ждет впереди.
Does anyone else hear a bass guitar doubling the reedy sounding thing?
There were no guitars. It must have been an orchestral bass or a bassoon.
Synthesizers
15?? how old is this music? That must be somthing to hear live

One other thing: Progress is lovely, isn't it?
@jessiasu The film basically works as a substitute.
only if you act now!
recycle,
consume less,
be responsable.
mielestäni maailman paras elokuva.
It is in fact about humanity destroying the planet.
