I sold my kayak after too many close encounters with speed boats on Lake St Clair. I had an incident where I checked the weather before I went and I checked multiple sources. Forecast was calling for light and variable winds. Lake was like glass when I went out. A front came through and I barely made it back to shore. Wind was so strong couldn't paddle back to the boat launch. Ended up going straight for shore and some lady let us use her back yard.

Yep, been there as well! A wind shift from south to north on Lake Erie caused a wall of "washing maching" water that I could hear coming towards me. 😳 it was a scary moment.

They would of been some good eating plus a walleye

Takes balls to go 2 1/2 miles off shore in that thing………storms can come up really fast on Lake Erie!

Yes they can. I do my best to plan ahead, watch the weather like a hawk, and head inshore if it looks like a change is approaching. I've been caught in a wind shift as it changed from southerly to northerly and it was like a wall of washing-machine water moving across the lake. It got scary real quick.

2.5 miles is 2.17 nautical miles and 4.2 miles per hour is 3.65 knots, for those who can't fathom using land units on water. Don't worry, just rattling your chain, good video, interesting equipment.

Love to see the yak fishing. Curious what jigging rap are you using? I'd like to get a few of those for fishing off my yak this summer.

Trevor, the ones I use in the video are the Rapala jigging rap 7/8oz in perch and silver.
