Although Taeyeon has a great voice, Soyeon's voice is definitely much more unique and can suit itself to many genres. TBH it would've been a lot better for SNSD if Soyeon debuted as their lead vocal. The reason why only Soshi ballads gets good critic reviews is because they have to shift the focus of the whole group onto Taeyeon and Tiffany since their voices are only suited to slow ballads (this is not counting gee and genie, which, although popular, are more like kiddie songs for play school). Most SNSD songs get received badly by critics not only because the songs themselves are really poorly written to suit the SM style (popular but lacks depth), but also because these songs are far outshined by their ballads. The only reason why these songs still top the charts is because of the large fanbase SNSD has. Like srsly, imagine giving a song like I Got A Boy or Motorcycle to a less popular group... Taeyeon's voice is too airy, making her voice sound deep regardless of which key she sings in. Her voice, in all honesty, is not fitting for the pop genre and sometimes actually disrupts the mood of the song. T-ara, on the other hand, never had these problems despite having arguably much weaker vocals in comparison to SNSD (except Soyeon). Even though Eunjung and Jiyeon have good voices amongst girl groups, they can't compare to Tiffany, sica and seohyun who are edging towards the top tier. Regardless, T-ara can adapt themselves to any song almost perfectly and that's because they have a lead vocal that can pull them together with her voice. E.g. No.9 (the whole song falls in place when Soyeon comes in), cry cry (the whiny tone in her voice in this song really adds depth), First love (again, same as No.9, despite expressing a totally different mood). Rather than considering whose voice is better between Taeyeon and Soyeon (which is purely subjective, and fans and haters can spam all they like), it is more important to look at their contributions as lead vocals to the entire group, because after all, that is their primary role.
No doubt Taeyeon is a great singer, but I love Soyeon voice more (she had something in her voice that I can't find in any K-POP singers) anyway as others said as well. Soyeon was a former SNSD trainee (if she didn't leave the Group) Soyeon is SNSD Main Vocalist and Leader (not Taeyeon anyway, though Taeyeon will be also a main vocalist/lead vocalist as well)

Maybe he didn't get all facts correct, but if Soyeon really trained for 3+ years then some websites also show that only Tiffany trained for aprox 3+ years also, while all other SNSD members did more time: 4+ years (Taeyeon, Sunny), 5+ (Yuri), 6+ (Hyoyeon, Sooyoung, Seohyun), 7+ (Jessica, Yoona). Anyone can search online about this & still believe anything they want... What cannot be denied is that Soyeon is indeed a natural talent & unique among other Korean female singers...

Dude, do you not know the difference between project trainees and regular trainees? Project trainees are selected trainees who are deemed ready to debut and put in a group. Regular trainees aim to be a project trainee because they are guaranteed debut. Soyeon was a regular trainee for 3 years until she was selected to be a project trainee for SNSD. Soyeon was only a project trainee for 4 months until she backed out.
Soyeon's voice is quite good.But Taeyeon's is more soothing,strong and emotional.Thats why i prefer it.And Taeyeon's vopice suits most styles of singing.But no doubt,Taeyeon is a better singer.But i still love soyeon.
