i think some of the seeding was done to avoid regional team kills which i think is fair ultimately a few spots shouldn’t be that huge of a difference and japan just have a ton of good players
Japan has better players, so japan is worth more points due to the rankings, and because they have so many high point players, its easier for them to rise and do well over there because there are more points to get. Its really not that hard to figure out.
Cosmos lacks good wins I think. He's got that big win on Sparg0 of course, but besides that, his best wins are Lima and Dabuz, who as we can see aren't ranked that high. His losses also aren't amazing.
The regional multiplier still applies for some places in Japan and for some places in NA and for most of Europe. The rule is that any region that hasn't had a major in a certain amount of time gets a multiplier. The number of attendants gets multiplied by two or three: if two hundred people are at a tournament in a region with a multiplier, the event will get an additional 200 or 400 points(for reference, someone in the 5 of the lumirank is worth 350 points on their own) So it's not that much in reality, it rarely has a big impact.
JP is just a different kind of beast , they play for fun, prestige , and glory ..NA is full of egoist talkers, only wanna play for $$ , treat it as a job they hate, suck the fun out of it..that's why JP farms ya jims
It's kind of funny Light's argument for Tweek > Hurt is Tweek has 2 majors wins for the season when Hurt has 3. I do agree with the consistency though as Hurt did have relatively poor results in his latest tournaments, but Tweek has also entered less tournaments.
Hurt has placed 25th and lower at his last 2 big events. Tweek has been far more consistent. Hurt shouldn’t be over him at all regardless of having one more major win over him
Only one of them counts for this ranking. You could easily argue for Hurt over Tweek since Tweek has barely gone to anything for the season, and yet his record still has "bad" results with 17th at Collision and doing really badly at the invitational he went to. Hurt has gone to more tournaments, and has wins on presumably higher ranking players since there are probably a lot of JP in the rankings and Hurt has beat most of them this season (Most notably Acola).
oh my god bro 🤦🏽 they're saying the prelocal invitationals for this season won't count, not erasing previous events from rankings. and its literally happening because people complained about them counting so they're setting a consistent precedent. its always some hate for people who put in tons work for rankings, seedings etc for no return
Shoutout Light for the DTF dub and good luck to Light and Riddles at Supernova! Also excited to hear EE killing it on the mic as always The seeding is CRAZY though Idk what they were smoking when making that 💀
very ironic to hear about this “japan bias” in the rankings after everyone called for a 6 month ranking period, which members of this podcast asked for. Japanese players get very high with one or two breakout performances in a whole year. Something that gets averaged out in a full year ranking. But since top players prefer 6 months rankings... Well, enjoy the JP shooting stars invading the top50.
people wanted 6 month rankings cause that used to be the norm and there was nothing wrong with it. It had nothing to do with "Japan Bias". Top players in general didn't like it due to the fact that one bad tournament, meant it was completely over for you, for that entire year
@@BladeVoltz i’m not saying the 6 month ranking is due to japan bias and i agree with a half year ranking being better, but expect the strongest region (Japan) to be showing up more in the rankings now. with so many events they have a lot of opportunities to pop off and get crazy wins
Not really. Smash right now has been the most inconsistent it has ever been in the tournaments. Acola and Miya are consistent, but the former tends to be from Steve stuff and the latter tends to fall from Leo, Sparg0, and Sonix, and even lost to Hurt, Light, and Gluttony on +2/3 match ups. Japan is simply much more privileged on a technological and environmental basis that other regions unfortunately don’t have.
@@justice8718 Japan isn’t more privileged. You probably think smash is inconsistent because you probably live in America. Japan worked for it and they got better. The result’s literally speak for themselves. Japan is better at smash bros ultimate.
First thing I noticed regarding the seeding: Miya ist 1st. Spargo is put as 8th. They'll face each other on winners side, and Spargo has a great chance of winning that. This is an intentional move by the american organizers, duh! (And I like it!)
My guess for cosmos not being top 50 is that it might be head to heads? Are his h2h against the top 10/20 worse than others? Either way I was surprised he wasn't either

Yall are part of the American issue never showing up to the tourneys and uptiering them
Japan has more events, Japan has more players ranked therefore they get more majors. The players then get more points meaning they can rise up. I honestly don't think Leo had a bad season at all, but when you look at what was happening in Japan its like "oh... well yea". And Smashcon seeding is 100% the Lumirank order.
Japanese players have more opportunities to attend bigger tournaments, yes, but that doesn't actually significantly help them more than NA when considering the fact that you can be ranked highly with lower or higher attendance. Crossplay between regions is what matters the most, and Japanese players are very good at doing well in NA while NA players absolutely drowned at Golden Week. The rank would not have been as Japan dominated if top NA players didn't die at Kagaribi and DELTA, or if Japanese players didn't show up as much at events like BoBC. Even JP's weaker events like Genesis weren't as poor for them as Golden Week.
Japan has more players ranked and are better as their players got flown out a lot for YEARS (AND to this day they still are) and worked their way up to being the strongest region… so when will Japan start flying players out?

That's not true. First, there will be five players from the United States, 1 player from Mexico, 1 player from Guatemala and 1 player from the Dominican Republic in the top 20 of this season, which is considerably more than three players. Second, most majors in Japan last season were A tiers; 11/15 to be precise. NA, for comparison, had only 5 A tiers out of 10 majors total, so it actually had more supermajors.

Not so fun on the other side of it I guess
That's not true. First, there will be five players from the United States, 1 player from Mexico, 1 player from Guatemala and 1 player from the Dominican Republic in the top 20 of this season, which is considerably more than three players. Second, most majors in Japan last season were A tiers; 11/15 to be precise. NA, for comparison, had only 5 A tiers out of 10 majors total, so it actually had more supermajors.
