- Tech Guide Editor Stephen Fenech discusses NBN’s plan to boost home internet speeds.
Mr Fenech said the plan will be implemented over the next 12 months.
“This comes on the back of their massive fibre expansion program,” he told Sky News Australia.
“What they’re planning to do is to take customers on the very popular 100 megabytes per second plan and to increase the speed to 500 megabytes per second.
“So that’s five times faster at no additional cost.”
NBN is hopeless. Anything the government touches turns to shit . Skylink is far better.
Then you are happy with what you have?
think im going to make the switch. nothing wrong with the nbn speed, its just not a consistent, reliable service!
It's Starlink mate
🤣i keep calling it skynet! 🤣@@gw5436

😮💨Australia needs to get into the 21st century. When I lived in South Korea up until 2016 I had UNLIMITED internet at 1000 megabytes per second for only $34 a month. The Korean govt even mandated that there be ONLY UNLIMITED internet available so as not to disadvantage students or businessmen etc. Australia is still in the internet ''dark ages''.
I agree. We need the internet in modern age. But it costs a lot. Especially with everything else increasing. Wonder if internet providers will increase costs.
Obviously, a very different country geographically in Korea. We did manage to build a railway from Adelaide to Darwin, so we have overcome seemingly insurmountable infrastructure challenges before.
Australian companies are greedy and know they can get away with ripping everybody off, even the fines are worth paying to continue doing so, so let's limit the bandwidth so we can oversell it, hence the slowdowns, and also use the amount of data to force people to pay exorbitant prices for our shareholders.
@@chadjcrase It will take government legislation to make the internet available to all at a reasonable price. The internet providers have gotten away too long with bad service. I remember living in an apartment and Optus telling me it's impossible to run cables up a building! I didn't know any better and believed them until I lived in South Korea where 90% of the population live in 20 storey high rises!!!
Japan had 100MB fibre in the 1990s. Telstra created the proprietary tech for 5g so in theory we could have had the world's fastest wireless service
Great news. When are we going to get NBN at all out here in the country?
Never
200 years later
You'll get Free Sticks and Blankets for Smoke Signals and that's about all. 😂
...after reactors.
You already get free Toyota's
Starlink Cape York here. Works great.
Yep, I absolutely love mine. I will never go back to cellular or the nbn garbage.
So I pay for the faster platform and I'm stuck at 50 at best my old cable was 140 as soon as starlink hits Australia I'm done with the NBN
Lol starlink has been in Australia for years. Love mine, the only problem is they can only do rural due to the government rules
Like I said when it's Australia wide just to put it in context for ya I'll be saying fuck the NBN I'm in Adelaide I'll have access in around 18 months
@MortucusInvictus 😂 I'm up near Pirie, Port Augusta, so I can sympathise. NBN here, absolutely sucks
Anyone who’s complaining about slow internet in 2024 is going to have arthritis in their walk-in’ wrist very soon. ✊
I went from 120+ Mbps on cable (zero downtime over the span of 5 years) to 22 Mbps when I was shotgunned like the rest of the country into shifting to NBN (regular outages from my provider "due to NBN maintenance/upgrades"). What a joke. The big selling point was "but you'll pay no more than you pay now". I said at the time that Mobile tech would overtake whatever NBN speeds were available and possibly make it redundant. Not just a joke, but a complete waste of taxpayer money.
The absurdity of the Australian strategy, when you consider the full history, was to spend a decade transforming from a monopolised telco industry under Telecom, a government department at the time, into a competitive private enterprise and open the market up to companies here and abroad.........then another decade to centralise it all back again under a single Government enterprise. We breathed out....held our breath....then breathed back in again - so goes the respiratory system of Australia's telco industry. What's next? sell off NBN to Huawei ????? - that seems like such an absurd proposition it could easily be true - it's probably on top of the agenda for Albo's next visit to the CCP.
Having a High Speed Internet is Good but don't forget about Internet Security.
Use a VPN.
@@EL_Duderino68 VPN's are good. Not all VPN's are safe though.
@@_wokeweaklingscryoverwords_ Yeah well it sounds like you can work out which ones are so what's your problem, fake name? Don't cry now snowflake. :)
@@_wokeweaklingscryoverwords_ You don't know how to pick the good ones?
Didn't you see the AUKUS contract? Australia is set to become the international hub for cyber espionage
NBN ? Still waiting !
Most of the developed world has had gigabit for over a decade now...
Here in Omaha Nebraska, Google is starting to roll out their fiber internet service and these are the monthly plans
1000/1000 is 70 USD
2000/2000 is 100 USD
5000/5000 is 125 USD
8000/8000 is 150 USD
The NBN is criminal
NBN is the reason we have slow internet. They are the problem not the solution.
Yeah right. No additional cost for how long? A month or two or maybe six ? Then watch the price sky-rocket.
When you say everyone, you mean everyone in the southeast !
Let’s just stop the internet, it’s gotta stop a heap of carbon..
So we will be in the top 100 nations in possibly 2025.... ahk
Great…as long as my KAYO stops buffering
Eels! 💪💪💪
@@larrylongprong5219 hey mate. I’m watching the collywobbles playing 😆
Cold pies 🥧 where Barney?
@@Prognosis__ I don’t have the energy to get into afl this year🤣
@@larrylongprong5219 the problem with the league, is I don’t have any affiliation with any club. Are the eels ok?
Thats on kayos end, not yours. Good luck
city only lol
....coastal town blackspot...can't get effing digital.
It's funny how people act as if they are teaching or performing surgery over their internet when in reality they are just watching Netflix or looking at porn. How fast does the internet need to be for most people?
Online gaming ?
Five times cheaper will be better...
I just want to watch a TV show without the NBN having to buffer.
Then dump the big telcos and find a provider that dosen't oversell the bandwidth they purchase from NBN Co.
And Providers will jackup the price five times
Yeah nah im going back to bed you guys suck
Early bed mate! It’s only 5:30 here, and I’m on the eastern coast
@@nathantudor5763 its too cold.
Meanwhile there are still so many of us in suburban areas stuck with the cursed Fix Wireless for no good reason. Starlink get my money, NBN is a joke
What's the bet that is on the upload speed.
Good question. Do you need a high upload speed?
😂 I'll believe it when I see it. Starlink upset them with their rural speeds, and they were losing customers to them.
Get the reliability sorted first
I reduced the speed, it was unnecessary.
While the she goes inside the metaverse. And remember the crypto teacher told you.
How, no fiber to my home
Can I ask why ..... ???? I know everyone wants it but they could of done this a long time ago ... Or they doing it because quicker technology is coming out and need the speed upped ..
How long will the towers be down before change finished weeks a month or more? More outages again!
NBN is shite. Been promising to upgrade in my area, then put it off for another year. Full of BS, bunch of grifters.
Already on a 1000/50 plan
Telcos are ripping off customers a majority of countries example Turkey give free internet no paying it Turkish government pays it
NBN vs 5G, that's how competition drives down prices. I've been directing family to 5G because it's so much cheaper.
Great for your jabbed heart too
Those extra high frequencies will you finish you off within 5 years.
Na it’s cool it’s pretty fast now..
Wow, is this for the cities only, or will regional and remote areas be considered too?
I guess we'll just have to soldier on with our ADSL connection.
Well the regional town I'm in was promised NBN connection just before the 2016 election.
We got NBN Fixed Wireless 2019 (just before the election) 1/4 NBN speeds and unreliable.
Se got promised Fibre just before the 2021 election, they pulled an orange string through where the old Telstra phone cables were about 6 months later. No action since.
NO 5G in the region, and the Telcos are shutting down 3G in September.
That leaves us with 4G LTE and have to go outside half the time to get a signal.
We are just sooo lucky and looked after soooo well in the Western Region of Victoria.
No trains, no busses, No to the premises postal service, but we DO have LOTS of POTHOLES in the roads and constantly decreasing speed limits.
Even with all this, I'm glad I moved out of Melbourne 10 years ago.
Lol, how much is this going to cost??? Lol
Mac are overpriced garbage what are you smoking 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
WBAN
APPLE sell JUNK
NBN?
What kind of a plonker doubles up home internet??
😂😂😂
You?
😂😂 sure sure
NBN doesn't even work
Ok upsell the $100 plan. Gee that really helps
