Man, this video hit hard. I have about 24 of those bin boxes full of greeblies along with a dozen extra large tubs full of big greeblies. I agree with you, it's not hoarding, its collecting! Happy collecting!
Oh yes greeblies are a challenge of their own! Here are a couple of things that I do to keep some sort of overview. 1. Sample Boxes I have containers in which I keep one sample of each material I can have in larger numbers. This way I can keep standard-sized materials (such as the bottle caps you're using as well) away from my workspace. There is storage space (somewhere far from my work table) and then there is work space. 2. small ziplock bags They keep things together, they're transparent and, bonus, they keep your stuff free from moisture and dust. You can also simply insert a label (piece of paper with the content / them written on it) inside instead of having to resort to more elaborate labels. 3. Labelling is sorting When you start labelling your containers you're establishing a sorting procedure. People tend to sort first and label later, but then they quickly lose the oversight of what went where. On more complex inventories I use colour-coding on the labels (simply by using paper of different colours). 4. Thematic boxes and kits You can have smaller boxes inside larger boxes, if they belong to the same category overall. I use a lot of flat food containers with transparent tops (mine were for feta cheese, but Philadelphia margarine containers work just the same), because they're stackable and you can remember what is inside by looking at the content: labels can only carry limited information. Those small containers can be placed in a larger container alongside with larger objects. 5. Detail density For starters I would sort greebles by the scale of the miniature. Your pulse rifle will be 1:1 scale, I suppose, with which you can use common objects whereas 28mm / 1:64 scale miniatures require much smaller details. Sometimes you can cut out the part of an object which has the small details and throw the rest away. 6. Letting go Sometimes it is good practice to clear the stash from "false good ideas" or other misleading stuff, that could become something but wouldn't actually fit or would take an inordinate amount of effort to transform. Sure, sometimes we regret having thrown away something that would have been useful, but here it is as with other things, it's a learning curve that can translate to other things. By aquiring experience with basically trash on what is worth keeping or not, we can also develop a sense for this for other things. Having helped clearing sheds, attics and cellar countless times over the years, I have developped a good sense of these things now.

In fact, I have been working on sorting my ever growing collection out better than it has been so far. I have created a few storage racks "behind the scenes", which I will be showing on the channel at some point in the future... The whole topic of Greeblies is one that could probably fill a channel by itself! Haha! I suppose everybody has their own method of storing, organising and cataloguing Greeblies, there isn't "one way that is best" as everyone is different! Personally, I DO agree with colour coding stuff! Something I hadn't thought of but could possibly implement!
@@DarlingbroughSciFiBuilds "there isn't "one way that is best" as everyone is different!" yes it's true, one has to know the context and the workflow, in fact each solution is tailored to the needs and characteristics of the workshop (I think that a hobbyist has a lot in common with craftsmen).
I have the same sickness. I'm always casually picking up trash from the streets because it looks sci fi and could use it in a diorama. I also buy up incomplete/abandoned model kits off ebay. It's gotten pretty bad. I have more greebles than I'll ever use.

@DarlingbroughSciFiBuilds i tried to sort them, but my creative process is chaotic. I use fishing tackle boxes, with some success. I like your organizers.
@@joshuadecker1305 I will admit I am FAR from being the most organised person... 😣Most things in my life are disorganised and messy, however I found a huge sense of relief and accomplishment when I sorted out my greeblies! 😇 I'd highly recommend you get some organisational tubs, drawers or other compartment based storage space and get organising! You will enjoy it once you get going!😍🥰
@DarlingbroughSciFiBuilds i recently moved, so I had to go through and weed out stuff like lids, caps, scraps, just to make the move easier, but I kept the good stuff, put them all in bins, toolboxes , plastic drawers, tackle boxes. I need to get back to building like I was before moving, your airlock project is a big inspiration.

Its sad but yes Greeblie envy exists. Whats more sad is we tend to forget what we have and keep adding. My current goal is to use 5-10 of my horde for every new greeblie added.

Greeblies relates to parts taken from commercially available model kits, that are used for detailing. Greeblies is the American standard, and being British I use the British standard which is Wiggits. I’ve noticed in the last three years how the definitions of long established terms are being bastardised, misunderstood or ignored. Your video is positive proof of this ongoing situation.

As the video was primarily entertainment based, and not a straight up factual history lesson, I feel that the light heartened lesson about the history was adequate. As the channel is one dedicated to building sci fi themed models, and not a historical facts channel, I do not feel that the information was misrepresented in any way. As I mentioned in my previous comment, if you would like to see a more in depth documentary about the history of the term "Greeblies" (as well as related terms such as "Nurnies" etc), then I would be happy to produce one, however due to the content I have already planned for the channel, this wouldn't be for a while... When we bought our house, my Mrs made sure it had space for a hobby room for me. While I am certain she did it out of love, I suspect it was so that she didn't need to look at all my hobby crap scattered over the house. ;)

Little boxes of mixed greeblies, mixed in bigger greeblie crates. Always the intention of having them organised but rarely in reality
