It's moments like this that made me appreciate Miles' genius. For those who don't know, Miles Davis was trained in classical piano at The Juliard School in Manhattan. He was an A-student in piano. Ironically, his instructors graded him a C in trumpet. Even upper echelon professors can get it wrong sometimes. lol
Well they were right technically.miles is a better composer than a trumpet player.he was considered mediocre when it came to his skill on the trumpet.even respected musicians he worked with agreed that he isn't great at the trumpet
He's telling the truth about really good tunes come out as you play they write themselves. You just let it out some have more skill & theory to do more with the bare bones . It's the hook that brings em back. Cheadle nailed Miles I haven't seen a movie in a long time this looks like it might be worth a watch.
Idk if this is right but what I can take from miles is that good tunes come from listening and being in the moment kind of like when your back is itching you can't really tell where the itch is but you slowly find your way to it and when you scratch it you know you found it
I love serious movies about classical music. That shit is easy to get in to, and they often times show reflection in a struggling artist. You get to see their hidden and burned out ideologies
Don Cheadle isn't just War Machine you know. To the younger generation he might be. But Don Cheadle is a very talented and, diverse actor that has played and can play various types of roles. He is an oscar nominated actor and even dabbles in music from time to time.
Oh shit is this boring.. Miles Davis figured out Chopin and Stravinsky, broke down their compositions. What is this Good Will Hunting? Miles Davis is wicked smaaart lol.
trumpet5432 If he was such a genius then why didn't he figure out how to not be a heroin addict? I guess if you're a black heroin addict everyone thinks you're a genius...
Your ignorance astounds me. By your logic, artists who use drugs are mediocre, yet look at Eric Clapton, arguably the greatest guitarist of all time. He was a heroin addict. You don't think the Beatles were getting seriously tripped up on LSD when doing their music? How about Jimi Hendrix? Oh, and right, Miles Davis, one of the greatest jazz artists of all time. A musical genius, he redefined the entire genre, and in case you didn't know, jazz is a REALLY IMPORTANT GENRE. Like classical music, its a foundational genre, on which every other one is based. The chord structures of jazz have influenced everything from classic rock to hip hop. I find it incredibly offensive that you would denote Miles Davis, such a figurehead of jazz music as "lesser," and therefore denote jazz as a genre. Not only are you ignorant, you're straight up offensive, and you're way out of your league making stupid comments about music you clearly can't even begin to understand. Also, your final comment to a perfectly respectful commenter clearly highlights how much of a quality person you are.
Lukas Gordon You, sir, are a goddamn genius. Anyone who understands and respects the world of jazz (and just how harsh life was for a lot of the drug-addicted greats) is a good person in my book!
"Graphic smoking," AKA shit you can see on any street corner. If something like cigarettes is keeping you from a Miles Davis biopic, then it's DEFINITELY not for you.
This is the bandwagon Miles had a problem with......critics who looked down on bebop and wouldn't go to uptown clubs in new York suddenly started giving credit to musicians who copied it and played it in downtown posh clubs. You have the chance to experience history and you throwing it away 😁😁😁

+Levi this movie isnt about classical music tho :)
+lordhuebi Miles Davis is pretty old now, wouldn't you consider it classic?
sure but there's a difference between a 'classic' artist and the genre 'classical music'...
+lordhuebi oh no yea that's true, I guess you're thinking more full orchestra music and all. Which, btw those movies are also very easy to get in to.
Does anyone know the piece he is playing ?
Do you know the piece he is playing? Maybe impro

+Jules L Are you being sarcastic or are you just stupid?
bumrusherer1985 I guess you don't know what a real genius is - for example, Chopin. Come on! Miles Davis is not comparable to a classical composer.

Too bad about all the graphic smoking in this thing, I'll pass.
