Also, Hindenburg itself is basically a stock trader which makes me think: what they know that we dont know, that they haven't shared with us yet
Even if Icahn doesn't actively operate a Ponzi scheme, his "money management" styles/methods could resemble one, even if it's temporary!
Lets not forget this is a corporate raider, not a trader! I wouldn't be shocked if we see that he did this. Just because you can dismantle a company and/or turn it around, doesn't mean you're gonna be a good fund manager 😅

Meaning that they are either accelerating the inevitable decline or they need to cash some of their position out, so they at least put a short term wiggle in the stock to take profits in and then keep their wider position in place.
Either way, they probably don't know much more than we do, they see an anomaly in the 10K and then do work to verify it.

Even if Icahn is completely above board, doing this could cause the crash, instead of fundamentals causing the crash. Especially with a majority shareholder that has secured collateral loans using the stock.

    • @jeffshackleford3152

Unlikely, the thing with fundamentally dubious companies is they rapidly decline once that is realized.
Plus I would imagine that Hindenburg does not put themselves out of position, meaning that they likely have very good risk management.
That is one of the major components missing from a lot of these short bias funds, they have poor risk management.

In business the terms of transactions are usually determined by the least ethical person participating: if you have 2 companies that make the same thing and company A goes over seas while company B believes that the people will buy domestic for more money. In short order only company A exists and anyone else looking to be in that field, must go overseas. So it's not possible to do a substantial amount of business without competing and winning over more or equally unethical people as yourself.
