  • The mobile lithium-ion recycling truck is known as the 'Universal Battery Recycling System' (UBRS) and is being designed and built in collaboration with the University of Birmingham.
This project has been supported by the UK government's Innovate UK grant of £1.96m and is a 36-month project that commenced 11 months ago at the time of posting.
The government has recognised the need for a fourth domestic refuse collection service in the UK, dedicated specifically to battery waste. The aim is to enhance international consumer responsibility for Li-ion battery recycling.
This initiative is critical in mitigating the risk of battery fires, which pose significant dangers in waste facilities and domestic settings due to improper disposal.
