It’s actually implied that Darkstalker enchanted Flame’s emotions so that he would attack Stonemover. And Flame has one of Qibli’s earrings, so he does still have a scar.
I don't really remember that part in the books. Yes, Flame is a more complex character than he seems, but it was never explicitly stated that he was enchanted.
Many fans believe in the theory that Flame was under Darkstalker's control when he attacked Stonemover. This theory has become so big that many believe it to be true. In reality, Flame attacked Stonemover because Stonemover refused to heal his scar when Flame asked him to do so earlier. Yes, Flame is a more complex character, but I can fully believe that he would attack someone with the intent to kill.
In a vacuum the scene is played completely straight, however by the end of the book based on everything we've learned about Darkstalker we can make some inferences. While the book doesn't say anything out right, it is implied that Darkstalker had influenced Flame to attack Stonemover (similar to how he influenced Anemone to go kill Coral and take the throne). That way Darkstalker could come to the rescue, throwing suspicion off him, and while he healed Stonemover's petrification he'd put a mind control spell on him. That way he'd have two powerful animus under his thumb. This is very in line with the kind of thing Darkstalker would pull. However, Stonemover sort of realized what was going on and made a big fuss ("my claws are not my own!" and such) and pretty much strong armed Darkstalker into removing the enchantment. The problem with it is Talons of Power is super vague on the whole situation in an attempt to preserve the mystery element, but in the end it still doesn't deliver a concrete answer resulting in a lot of confusion. I seem to remember Darkness of Dragons trying to shed some light on it, though it was in a very blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment. Anyway, Flame is just so underused. The books keep setting him up for stuff and then never follows through. For example: in The Dark Secret its super obvious that Flame steals the dreamvisitor. So for the rest of the book I was like "interesting, what's Flame going to do with it?" The answer - nothing. Seriously, he only steals it so the book has a reason for Starflight to not have it anymore. So then Moon Rising rolls around and in the back of my mind I'm thinking "well, Flame has a dreamvisitor, maybe it's him?" Nope, his posession of a dreamvisitor is never mentioned once and he exists solely as a red herring. Finally Talons of Power remembers he has a dreamvisitor, and what happens? Darkstalker immediately claimes it for his own and it never comes up again. Like, what was the point??? Flame having a dreamvisitor was ony there for plot convinence and misdirects. It's little things like this why I have such a love-hate relationship with Arc 2. (Sorry for the long comment.)
I totally agree with your analysis here lol, i do subscribe to the theory that darkstalker influenced flame but since it wasn’t really brought up and finished off in canon i didn’t know what to think lol, and the dreamvisitor thing is so confusing! Such a waste of potential, but yeah i liked arc 2 and simultaneously it introduced some of the more frustrating elements of the story haha, such as the acceleration of the animus thing, like,,, animus powers were crazy, i have so much more to say about it and I have a rant prepared for when we reach the letter J haha
So, fun fact, the fandom did NOT come up with the Darkstalker enchantment theory, if the wiki is to be believed. In Flame’s history section under Darkness of Dragons, it mentions that Qibli wonders multiple times if Flame had been enchanted to want to kill Stonemover. Idk if it’s ever confirmed to be true, but the idea did in fact come from the books, not the fandom. Also I apologize if someone else has already mentioned this.

Most of my opinions on characters depends on their name, like, I've always been attached to the word flame, and I whole heartedly believe that darkstalker put a spell on him and that he will someday go through a very angsty redemption arc However if he was named something else like *Uhhhhhhhhh* *casually searches up birds of prey* raptor, I wouldn't mind if he were to burn in a pit and suffer
I was having a tiring day and this made it so much better 😅 Abt flames attempt to kill stonemover, I think that darkstalker did enchant flame- but flame wouldn't have known he was under a spell and so he justified it with what he was feeling at the time (mad about stonemover lying) Qibli says to sunny that he thinks that's what happened in book 10 I think? And qibli is normally right so I think that's probably what happened, but no one could prove it. I felt rlly bad for flame in the stonemover scene honestly, I kinda hope he gets a redemption arc or something in the future
Yeah, Qibli is almost always right about these things, and I do NOT think that this is an exception. It really goes to show just how good Darkie was at hiding his tracks that a re-read actually _dissuades_ from a more correct memory of the scene because it gives him a fresh chance to work his theatrics!

Ok this is kind of random, but can we also talk about the fact that Flame can apparently sense mind-reading!? Like, in Moonwatcher's book, it's mentioned that when Moon is reading Flame's mind, he mentally screams, "who's there". Maybe it was a side affect of the dream visitor? Maybe he was just being randomly paranoid? I just thought of a new theory while I was typing. Flame's got black scales, right? And we don't know who his father was. And he was hatched some time near the brightest night (can't remember exactly when), so he could of been hatched during a full moon or two, although not necessarily out in open moonlight. Is it possible that Flame is part NightWing, and that he could have developed some sort of weak NightWing powers like Fatespeakers?

Flame was pretty awful, but so were alot of dragons. He did think his mother abandoned him, even if she loved him, so he could be one of the ones to fix things, even if he was a fake. He seemed rude and inconsiderate of others and angry at everyone. How Sunny can see any good in him is beyond me. I was like Sunny please don't be stupid ok. I just hoped she wouldn't be in love with him randomly, like Glory did with Deathbringer.

There's a lot of doubt as I recall on Flame. At bear minimum, the event seems way too convenient. Like, way, way too convenient. This is why most folk think Flame was influenced, enchanted, or otherwise the fall guy for what happened to Stonemover. The big problem really seems to be that the books're pretty good about making characters act in 'reasoned' manners. Rather than just do things that the plot demands. It's one of the big things that make me like Wings of Fire. I'd chalk it up to an unfortunate rush in Arc 2, and a really poor exploration about all this. Another Fierceteeth vote!

There's a lot of doubt as I recall on Flame. At bear minimum, the event seems way too convenient. Like, way, way too convenient.
This is why most folk think Flame was influenced, enchanted, or otherwise the fall guy for what happened to Stonemover.
The big problem really seems to be that the books're pretty good about making characters act in 'reasoned' manners.
Rather than just do things that the plot demands. It's one of the big things that make me like Wings of Fire.
I'd chalk it up to an unfortunate rush in Arc 2, and a really poor exploration about all this.

Flame doesn't deserve any love but unfortunately he does get love. The only reason Sunny thinks he's okay is she likes every dragon which is something I don't like about her. Anyways Flame looks good.
One thing that would make the, better: eyeliner. Or black outline of the eyes. Also for the mouth. I think that would make them pop more Visually.
Everything else is perfect.
@@tikimillie i mean,,, you are totally free to make your own but they look dorky with a mouth in my opinion lol and i do not want to give them fabric eyeliner because that is incredibly difficult to do by hand and have it not be malformed by the stitches (trust me i have made a hundred dragons and experimented with both things plus it’s just sort of like… a matter of personal taste and i make things how i like them)
