Only he isn't Percy yet, his original character was apparently very... Insane, almost too much for the live shows and so he changed him of his own volition
Talesins original character was a dragborn. Blue paladin I believe. However that was very short lived. Possibly only that first birthday game one off. The had lots of adventures pre stream with Percy. And they made reference to Percy being a bit crazy, that he lost himself, both in the original intro and a mention by the characters that when they first met him he was in prison and very different. But his character had already grown in time that they gamed before live streaming.
The thing is, they aren't in a living room anymore. They are in a full-blown studio, so there are pretty large restrictions on what the cameras may and may not see. Implementing a 'Matt camera' would make it difficult not to accidentally show the studio gear, crew, or anything 'backstage', which would range from somewhat unprofessional to downright problematic. As much as I would love him to fully embrace his characters, it is simply not feasible in a studio setting like this, not without being detrimental in other aspects (one thing they REALLY cherish is how they can sit at the same table, close to each other, which they couldn't for a good while after starting the show)
you'd have to imagine he misses it, they all probably do. as much as a blessing CR has been, and as lucky as we've all been for it to exist, you always gotta miss the simpler times,

@@antonymilne1346 Plus they had just switched game systems for the stream. Pre-stream, they were using Pathfinder rules. When they started streaming, they switched to Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition. This is absolutely amazing I just read the World of critical role book. There are some photos from these sessions and it's so heartwarming to see the same level of passion and enjoyment they have here and on set.
Me too. My favorite moments in the show are the bits where you see flashes of their irl friendships. Sam and Travis "fighting" over sportsball. The time Marisha was with Taliesin when he got a pair of lederhosen. Liam and Taliesin geeking out over Secret Garden the Musical. The small, in between moments that remind you that these people have known and loved each other for so long.
Plus side, Ashley looks soooo cute, and seeing LiamSam. Negatives, Tali tremor goes back further than I thought, he's been covering pretty well; HeWhoShallNotBeNamed hints at early Main Charactering. Legend, Matt voices.
I love how everyone is like so different and naive of the things to come from mercer except same who through whatever pact is still the EXACT SAME! I SEE HIM IN MY DREAMS
I think this is important for everyone trying to compare themselves to crit role to see. This is their roots, not the fancy stage or anything like that. But just a group of nerds rolling dice together and telling a story.
i would love to see them do a session like this, maybe with multicameras and it couldnt be livestreamed, but that ambience of everybody standing up and acting with their whole bodies seems very fun
As much as I am immensely happy for their growth and achievements, and all their successes, and their new polished studio and such, I do miss the more loose times. Eating full meals at the tables cluttered with all their stuff, squeezing in between the others on the bench when they were late or came back from break. Matt getting up to whisper. The BTS camera shenanigans during breaks. The dance parties.
I was really hoping that, with their expansion into side gaming videos, they'd have a dance party. I can understand why it may be hard to make happen, but I still wish.

Memories of a place and time that you've never been to.
"And what if the book I wish is a book that I print? On the skin I flay from your back." Is such a metal line
Seeing them move around the table so much is kinda awesome
This is absolutely amazing I just read the World of critical role book. There are some photos from these sessions and it's so heartwarming to see the same level of passion and enjoyment they have here and on set.
It’s so weird seeing Travis without a beard
"We're playing D&D!" *Sees Pathfinder everywhere*
The friendship is beautiful!
Wish I had something like it
Same. I feel a lot of comfort watching these videos. And I think that's why the love TTRPG elements of Critical Role resonate so much with me
Same. 🥺 I desperately want to play D&D around a table and make good friends through adventuring but alas, social anxiety lol
Same, Aspergers and social anxiety sucks. At least I can't miss something I'll never have.
5:08 Travis already looks like he's done with dudes shit.
They all look so different! All of them have aged well, but the difference is still noticeable here
Plus side, Ashley looks soooo cute, and seeing LiamSam.
Negatives, Tali tremor goes back further than I thought, he's been covering pretty well; HeWhoShallNotBeNamed hints at early Main Charactering.
Legend, Matt voices.
Lots of pre-stream stuff I'd not seen before, thank you!
Travis without the beard is almost surreal to see lmao
Hope I can find a friend group to play D&D with someday 😊
*gasp* Ancient relic!!! It must be archived! *Saves to playlists*
I love how everyone is like so different and naive of the things to come from mercer except same who through whatever pact is still the EXACT SAME! I SEE HIM IN MY DREAMS
Imagine telling this group that their DnD game is going to because one of the biggest and most successful twitch channels ever
With millions of fans
Seeing them just being a bunch of friends and not a professional production is great
Idk, there's something really sad seeing Orion and thinking how it all fall apart and they had to carry on without him.
The JOY on those faces... 🙂
Matt absolutely giving it all to applause is my favorite thing
Omg the babies!! I loved when Matt was hand drawing all the maps!
Love this. Please do not let anyone delete it. I thought I had watched every second of CR content before now. Very 😎.!
That was beautiful and wholesome
It's crazy to think about how long they've been playing together
I miss the early GnS days, seeing them dancing reminds of the fun times there was.
