    This needs more attention. It's not just prime, the companies who created these and like chemicals which even internal documents showed have health hazards, need to be held accountable !!! This is the problem, otherwise, the same thing is going to happen on repeat. Hold the companies AND people responsible. It's short term profit and long term expense (at cost of health on life). Shortsighted regulations. People are creating crap, knowing it's harmful, profiting, and getting out, with little to no consequences.

    Non stick Teflon frying pans are completely safe and won't give you any forever chemicals if used on low heat. Less than 300 degrees celcius specifically. So you can only use it for small number of items. Everything else use stainless steel (which also isn't ideal cos of heavy metals leeching into your food such as nickel and chromium), or cast iron (which also isn't ideal cos of iron increasing inflammation in the body)

    Teflon (one of the first of these "forever chemicals" and possibly the most widespread) has been around for a very long time. Where are the health effects that one would expect? Note that the federal threshold values have followed the laboratory detection limits rather comprehensively. I am an environmental profession with 40 years experience dealing with chemicals in the environment and there are a lot of better ways to spend the resources being expended on this issue that will have a much, much greater positive impact. Like, maybe, pathogen-free drinking water, for example?

    • @TalkingWithDocs
      @TalkingWithDocs  21 день назад +5

      Yes, Stefan has been around since 1946. We provided a long list of potential health complications related to Teflon and other forever chemicals. And yes, the safe limits are likely way too high. And we agree, there are probably better ways to spend that money, but it’s a problem nonetheless

    • @timkenyon6088
      @timkenyon6088 18 дней назад +1

      @@TalkingWithDocs It is interesting that the "potential health complications" listed for the PFAS families are not unique to the PFAS families. Without going into the details, almost every "potential health complication" has a list of associated non-PFAS chemicals (mostly VOCs and SVOCS) as more prevalent causes and a great deal more data. Just for instance, and as chemicals that everyone is exposed to, look at TCE, PCE, benzene and VC. They have a set of "potential health complications" on common with the PFAS-families yet have a much stronger correlation. Every time you fill you car with gas, you are exposed to benzene at concentrations arguably in excess of "that which is good for you..." Much (or almost all) of the PFAS data comes from military personnel and fire-fighters (especially the airport and oil-industry guys) that use PFAS-type chemicals (AFFF) and have mega-exposures. The data just does not rigorously apply to grandma cooking eggs in a Teflon pan. As with VC limits, the allowable limits for PFAS chemicals will continue to decline as the labs get lower and lower detection limits. Interesting.....

  • @RiDankulous
    @RiDankulous 21 день назад +1

    From what little I know about forever chemicals is that there are ways that some people think can help to reduce PFAS in our direct environment. One example is not using nonstick pans anymore, and there are list of other consumer products that can aid in reduction. It’s not possible to even eliminate entirely of course, but we have control over much of it, or so it is sad by some articles on the web.
    The government may decide these are no longer legal many of the products. Some with less exposure to consumers may still be used because their benefit is so important; some claim that the firefighting foam is in the category

    Just because PFAS are 'everywhere' does not indemnify products that contain them. It all depends on the concentrations. We suspect PFAS are harmful at very low levels, but if a product contains PFAS at orders of magnitude greater concentration of background or similar products, then the producer has a problem. Don't know anything about this particular case.

      @@TalkingWithDocs Well, you've gone down this rabbit hole, so it seems to me before people start throwing away their non-stick pans that they spent a huge amount of time researching to make sure it didn't have PFAS, you should do a video on what companies are being responsible in making sure PFAS are not included in their non-stick cookware.
      I specifically have Carote, and there are thousands of people on amazon who got these pans specifically because they claim to not have PFAS. If this is not true, and they are gaslighting people to believe their product is safe, everyone should know, as well as other companies.
      I'm one to think that anxiety kills just as many people every year, so if you're going to make a video saying everything is unsafe, it's your responsibility to talk about things that are the safest, both for people who are trying their best to make the right decisions, and for the companies that are genuinely telling the truth.

      As I understand it, PFAS are not in the material on the pan; it is used to create the material on the pan and that process alters the PFAS to make it disappear. This may not be true, but so far I have remained healthy at age 75. When I add up all the times I have not had to scrub pans in my lifetime, it may be worth it to have diminished health and lose a few years off my possible lifetime. Now, I never interfaced with this stuff when young and that may make a significant difference.
