This may be useless knowledge but I'm pretty sure the only way to get the witness a ghost event objective is to do one of two things
✩ See the ghost itself, this can be when it manifests. The ghost will manifest as a shadow or a full figure (ex: when it enters hunting mode that is the full figure version)
Or
✩ Use the Ouija board, it randomly spawns on each map. It may not always spawn but if it does you can tap it and ask the ghost a question like "where are you?" And it will tell you what room it is in. Any type of ghost will respond to a Ouija board. The bad thing is that a Ouija board lowers your sanity immensely and makes you more likely to be hunted. The only type of ghost that will not lower your sanity when the board is used is a demon.
Hope that helps anyone who may have been confused. Those are the only ways I know about though there may or may not be more.

Actually using the normal radio set's in a building, not spirit boxes, I think it works as the spirit box as well. And in case you didn't know the ghost is hunting you when the lights start flashing and main doors lock so only escape route is either running till they stop or sometimes closing yourself in a room.
I was born to subscribe to Wade indeed. Underrated for sure.

I don't know if its actually a thing or it was a fluke, BUT, I just saw another video of this game and they had their options narrowed down (mare or djinn in that case) and asked it to use the light in the room to answer. "Are you a djinn?" Light flashed 2x. "Are you a mare?" No response. It was a djinn. Maybe try asking what it is next time and see if it works.

I know this is a month old so you may have seen by now, but you can't witness a ghost event during a hunt, so that's why it didn't count, I don't see why it didn't count at different moments, according to Google it should have crossed off earlier, but I guess seeing it or hearing it during a hunt doesn't count 😶
