Everyone keeps saying "oh its not that hard". Ellefson said it was hard. I was repeating what Ellefson said. I've tried playing it with fingers before. If anything I prefer to play it with a pick for the tone.
fuck all of these dudes saying this isn’t hard or that he’s wrong for playing with his fingers. this dude is so fucking good, period. clean style, elegant while just fucking killing it, look at his fingers at 2:12 delivering those 3 notes like they’re fucking pancakes. this is beyond impressive. massive legend right here
You know, I've always tried to play that intro riff using my pinky to hammer on like Ellefson does, and it always sounded thin and weak. Never considered shifting my whole hand like that to give it more beef!
@@nickflatgard2779 If you practice very meticulously your left hand technique, you can get as much beef doing the shift as using your pinky. It is hard to nail the appropiate balance of force and power to do the hammer on with the pinky at playing speed.
I'm constantly amazed by the amount of attack Josh has when playing with fingers! Like each of his fingers are picks. Insane. In this video tho, when playing with HB, I definitely hear the "plasticness" of Harley Benton especially when Josh plays higher notes. But regardless, Josh makes even HB sing, that's for sure. Love his playing!
One advantage of Dave Ellefson sound is his palm muting with a pick. Countdown to Extinction is another example why I work on playing with fingers AND a pick for versatility
Love Josh, he's a BEAST, but this line really needs a pick - especially for the verse, the dynamics with the palm muting is what makes the line so special. As always, superbly played by Josh, but in my opinion he should use a pick in songs that really require one. Awesome cover anyway :D
People that criticize bass players for using picks are folks that can’t play bass with a pick. It gives you a certain tone. Do you say slap, distortion, modulation, etc should be ‘illegal’ for bass players? How about the electric bass in general...is that ‘illegal’?
Great playing man, love your vids. Huge tone out of that set up. I traded my Epi Thunderbird, I have little T Rex arms so found it hard to play and manage the neck dive.
I felt like buying one I can't even play my Ibanez Roadstar II RB650 bass right because of the neck dive I have to play like I'm Sid Vicious or Dee Dee Ramone. I have my bass low because I mostly play Punk and Metal and some other genres.
Well, two things. 1. They aren’t actually EMG, they’re Roswell and 2. These come stock. We will be doing an EMG Thunderbird pickup showcase soon, though.
"If there is a new way, I'll be the first in line; but, it better work this time." D. Mustaine ... D. Elefson said this was on of the harder songs to play. I disagree. However, I did have problems learning, Hook in Mouth, Conjuring, Liar, Mechanix, and Hanger 18. Especially, Hanger 18. Please hint on key and tuning. Something, I was doing was not right. Please teach us how to play those songs. Thank You
Josh kills it with covers but this one fell short for me. It is too clanky and desperately needs some palm mute. Thanks for sharing Josh and word up to tackling this one with the ✌️!
Kind of disappointed to learn Ellefson invented djent on this song. Not sure I've ever seen a fret board get less action before. I guess Dave and Marty used all the notes, there weren't any left for the bass line.
Does every song need the same boring slap, octaves, tap and shitty video editing to be a good baseline? Check the most famous bass lines of all time and tell me how much fret action they get. Oh this song is one of them! Ellefson plays for the song, the music. Not to get recognition or use overrated, overused techniques just to attract the eye. You have shitty meme RUclipsrs already doing that. Professional musicians play real music.
@@SpectorEuro4 The first line I ever learned was "Hey, Joe". Simple, iconic, and covered half the neck. I never said there was anything wrong with simple, only that I was slightly disappointed to see how simple it was.
David Ellefson said in a video once, "if you try to play it(Peace Sells) with your fingers, good luck!". Well, you showed him lol.
It's really not hard
@@mathewgill3058 You're right, holy wars is a more difficult song with fingers
@Mickey Falappi
It’s not that hard

@Mickey Falappi
I can play it with fingers. The only reason I prefer a pick is the tone and the feel
2:26 Amazing!
Thunderfingers
One of the nastiest bass riffs ever!!! \m/ fantastic work!!!
My 2nd album purchase as a young lad was peacesells..I was instantly hooked when I heard peace-sells ..that baseline is still incredible to this day.
I fucking love this sound

Don’t give in to the shift...work that pinky! It will always come in useful bro!
I have the same problem.

Iirc he doesn't hammer on with the pinky. He said this in an interview somewhere
Thats because you are supposed to pluck it not hammer on, Ellefson has said so himself
Josh going beast mode on an Ellefson classic line...I love Saturday mornings❗🤘😎🤘

josh the thunder finger is my fav metal bassist by far.
Oh man!!!! speechless.....
Has a magic right hand! Excellent sound... 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
you killed it man--- that Harley Benton sounds amaxing--wow
What? I cant belive that he made the Darkglass pedal sound good. Wow, every demo i heard it sounds like rattling nails in a metal jar. Good work
That HB bass sounds awesome! And great playing!
This is a right hand technique to aspire to
Those triplets are so clean

It's always nice to watch talented man at work!
Great stuff. That A string quacks like a duck though!
I'd love to see this man cover Death albums
Magic fingers!
Very nice work as usual.
You're killin it bro! If a person can play a song with a pic then it can definitely be played with the fingers. \m/

Cool song, cool cover. you guys always deliver

What is the effect on the video?
Best bass intro of all time ...by the way

Nice to see you use a harley benton. Im not the only one to use then

Harley Benton FTW
My last words pleassseeee

The bass tone is something awful to hear
