Firouzja slays Carlsen's Dragon in 18 moves

- Featured is an instructive bullet chess game between Alireza Firouzja and Magnus Carlsen from the 2023 Bullet Chess Championship. Carlsen chooses the Dragon variation of the Sicilian Defense, and parries Firouzja's attempt of a dark-squared bishop exchange with 8...h5. One way to view Firouzja's decision to castle kingside is that it made h5 less meaningful. Watch as Firouzja, with pawn play alone, provokes a couple of weaknesses on Carlsen's queenside. The result was a rare and aesthetic 18-move defeat of Carlsen where Firouzja registered an accuracy of 99%.

In critical moments when playing, I hear Jerry say "feel free to pause the video".
😂😂😂
99% accuracy and 4 average centipawn loss - in a bullet game!
Interesting...
Well I too got 99% accuracy, but my average centipawn loss was 11, can you explain plz?
Well, its Firouzja, known for being an absolute monster in blitz.
Not only is it Firouzja, but also 18 moves is not that long of a time to play perfectly. The opening is basically always 100% and at 18 moves you've barely left that. Couple that with easily exploitable mistakes by your human opponent and this is not unusual for a Super GM at all.
That's an average Tuesday for me 🥱🥱
Loving the consistent uploads Jerry!
Thanks Jerry! I think it is more difficult to explain positional strategic concepts than flashy tactical combinations, and you do it very well.
That's one of the reason We love Jerry 😍
I always enjoy when the cavalry works together.
Hi Jerry, it's me. I hope you upload more carlsen bullet, like in the good old days!
Once more a very instructive and fine commentaded video from my favorite chess channel. Thanks Jerry
Thank you 👍
What was the date that this game was played? I missed that information.
I’m not sure of the day. It was in July of 2023
Jerry’s commentary and analysis is top tier.
loved it, that was a beautiful ending with the knights
Great analysis ! …Curious to know which software you use for showing the game and to generate Tale of Tape at the end?
I'm pretty sure the tale of the tape is from lichess. I don't know what software he uses for showing the game
@@tiesb053tale of the tape is indeed from Lichess
Tricky knights!
😎
Very proud to have seen Nc6, at least with Jerry pointing out when to look 😌
I enjoyed this sober analysis. Despite what they say, you can learn something from analyzing bullet/blitz games.
Nice analysis
Very instructive
Thank you 👍
Great commentary as always Jerry. Pls can you cover Carlsen in Titled Tuesday? Miss your excellent coverage of him in that event. Thks.
I'd love to see instructional game how to develop attack on the king side in Dragon variation.

Hi Jerry, Well I too got 99% accuracy as in the video, but my average centipawn loss was 11 instead of 4, can you explain?
Thank you for uploading. Made my day
I am watching this mainly for nice commentary
👍
Rock on, Jerry
nice horse play in this one by Firouzja
Day 3 of asking Jerry to cover the Sack of Rome games by Sofia Polgar
Carlsen was drunk.!
No he wasn't
👍
Question for Jerry or just the audience in general... How much of this do you guys consider luck? I asked because my ratings pretty terrible especially in bullet, however I have played some games on pretty good days with some very very high accuracy, some of that was me being on point on that given day, but a lot of it felt like luck as well. What do you guys think?
The only luck involved is the chance that your opponent is going to make a mistake.
For us amateurs, bullet time control involves lot of luck since we are not great at calculating lines at such speed, so sometimes the tactics work out, and other times, it does not. I would advice playing slower time control like rapid, where we have time to calculate, this mitigates the luck element and also would help improve your understanding of the game lot more.
@@FahimHoq oh for sure. I play primarily rapid or longer. Blitz occasionally, and bullet rarely.
Hi Jerry 👋👋
Hi 👋
bullet kind of makes no sense
Jerry’s Girlfriend: is about to do a laundry load
Jerry: knows it, throws in the towel.
I stole this from someone else here.
Will anyone find this interesting 🎶
Tired😢
hi jerry!
i love it when you say the knight pounces :3
Cooked Queen variation!
😎
Carlsen's having knightmares after this one 😅
Knightmare !!
What about 15. E5 for black instead of Nd7?
Oh wow.Carlsen was blitzed. Yeah I also fear aggressive knights combo like these out of control. See what happened here blitzkrieg. Lesson for Carlson taken
Hahaha. Gonna enjoy this one
Yeah attacking queenside against the Sicilian is better than it looks early on. I will try it more
★★★★★★☆❤
