That electric drill/wire trick alone was worth the price of admission.

Literally got a giant pumpkin from Joanns that I wasn't pleased with the stem. Thank you so much for this idea!!!

This really made a great difference to the pumpkin! And it's great that it uses materials that either people are likely to already have, or can easily find.

so nice!!!!! I have about 30 fake ones scattered in the front yard. I carved them all with Jack-o-Lantern faces and I took the extra step of slicing off the top of the pumpkin (like you would with a real one) so you can see the crack of light when I put it back on there. That (plus the obviously hand made faces, that are FAR from symmetrical) makes it definitely not look store bought - people always ask me if I carved them all (to wish I answer YES). I only display them on Halloween night so you can't even see the stem but I love this technique.

Looks great! I've used armature wire like you did, but I've used caulk, the hand-held tube kind. I squeeze it on to create the ribbing. I've also used a chip brush to add texture. It's paintable when it's dry...

Awesome work! Love working with fake pumpkins. For the stem, I recommend following up with a wood stain of your choice once the paint dries. All those grains will pop even more. Thanks for sharing 🤘💀

That turned out great, very realistic. I liked the speckling of orange and green paint, but I wonder if it shows in haunt lighting? Not that minor detail would prevent me from doing small details like that. Presently. I don't have pumpkins in my haunt, hmmm... maybe I should have some. Thanks a bunch for the ideas!

This is great! I’m definitely going to try. I need a break from the larger scale project I’ve been working on the last couple weeks. For keeping the foil closed, those rubberized wire ties might do well, also giving the look of that ribbing you mentioned.

    • @VanOaksProps

Most fake pumpkins are pretty close to life-size (because pumpkins come in a variety of shapes and sizes). There's definitely some that look more realistic than others, like Funkins brand.

Why did you touch the hot glue with your finger? My wife saw that and said "See, he can touch it without cussing and doing a hot potato dance!" LOL
