This makes me so happy, I could cry. Two of my god-tier BookTubers, together, finally!! I’m just thrilled by this friendship and I hope it grows and we get more of this content!
The legendary collab I didn't know my heart wanted and needed. Absolutely loved this, Gavin is so effortlessly funny and charming, and you two just made me smile the entire way through. Also couldn't agree more, his travel vlogs are the freaking best. Saves me a lot of money, I will just experience all those adventures vicariously through him hahaha. Thanks for the joy 🥰
When you were talking about how creepy the ocean is it reminded me of Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant (Seanan McGuire). If you go into it blind it's a whole vibe.
I have read one SJM book just to see what's going on and I think you might like Throne of Glass more, Jimmy. The first is very similar to Bloodsport of all things but with a romance triangle and does feature a pretty fun 1v1 last fight scene that goes pretty hard (solved by a deus ex machina, of course.) At some point I will read the second one.
I'm in a self-imposed project to read all Gothic fiction in mostly chronological order and I'm mixed on Radcliff. Some of the criticisms of her are very true, at least in Mysteries of Udolpho - the protagonist will absolutely spend about 100 pages locked in her bedroom thinking that if she's meant to escape someone will help her escape but also being afraid - but I think you would enjoy the prose. There's a great passage, for instance, where she describes riding up a mountain to reach a mountain castle and there's a full page about climbing it only for the narrator to realize this is just a hill butted up against the true mountain they need to climb that's beautiful and breathtaking. IMHO The Italian sounds better in that it's like 200 pages shorter. I still gave Udolpho like 3/5 stars so I didn't hate it by any means. You might also want to check out Castle of Otranto at some point, it's the Patient 0 of Gothic lit and is only like 150 pages long and surprisingly wild for something written in 1600.
