- The past couple of months I've been getting lots of questions on RUclips and DM's on Instagram asking about school, so I decided to make a video about some of my experiences with the foundation year at Emily Carr and some advice I have for future ECU students ! In this video I talk a little bit about what I would have liked to know before going to art school and some advice I have learned along the way!

nice to hear you got into the major you wanted! i can definitely agree that using your gpa to apply to a major you want is a bit of a silly concept --- practically everyone in foundation last year thought so. it's nice to see & hear about your experience at ecu! looking forward to more vlogs :)

Wow I remember watching your portfolio video when I was applying to Emily Carr and I love to see how far you have come!! Alex, you are amazing! I've been following you for a while as I planned to apply for art school in Canada, your video helps me a lot! I choose to go AUArts ( or people used to call ACAD), and I am recently registering for classes for my first year foundation . Is that okay if you can tell me how many classes you have per day and how long is the class? Because I see that I have a 3hr class per day, sometimes it’s two classes ( 3hr long). I don’t know if this class schedule is normal in Canadian art schools, can you please help me on this? Thank you!
Hey thanks for the comment ! Every school and course you take / go to is going to have a different schedule so I don’t know how long your classes are going to be sorry ! But usually I would only have one or two classes a day depending on my schedule

alex you are such a silly goose (affectionate) n i think you should know that you and ur art are both lovely . don't give urself so hard of a time . quick question though, i'm planning on going to emily carr to learn animation -- but i have no interest in much of the other aspects (painting, sculpting, etc.) of art. do you think emily carr would still be a good fit?
Hahahah omg thank you so much for the comment 😭❤️ I think they might be changing the foundation year but idk when. In the meantime first year is pretty much mixed media and the rest of your studies is whatever focus you want / whatever major you get into.
You said with classes there’s only 20 ish students? Was that because of covid because I heard their will be about 400 for 2022’s fall intake.
There’s around 20 students per studio class but there’s about 500 students per year I think.
I have a question 🙋♀️??What job you want to be?
I’m thinking of becoming a tattoo artist. I’d also really love to paint murals and work with companies to design skateboard / snowboard graphics. Lol I definitely feel all over the place with career options but I think the beauty of art is also not having to pick just one thing to focus on !

Hi @alexgraffart, I wonder if there's any English class we have to take in emily carr, and how many of them?
Just humanities which is like art history, no English classes but still lots of essays unfortunately 🥲
@alexgraffart thank you! And also do you happen to know if 3d computer animation is very competitive in the school?🤔
@@candicewu5944 hmm I’m honestly not sure but all the people I know who applied to the 3D animation program got in so I think as long as you have ok grades in first year you should be good !
