In Taiwan, most people live in apartment complexes with expansive underground parking garages anyways so charging at "home" is nearly impossible. Smart idea with the battery swaps.
It's interesting to see all the criticism of it for being not like previous electric vehicles. That's a bit like criticising mobile phones for not being connected to the wall. The whole point of this is that it's a new model for electric transport - you don't charge at home as a rule any more than you refuel your gasoline vehicle at home. Instead there are battery swop stations everywhere so you change batteries as and when you need to. And range isn't much of an issue when you can find battery stations easily and swop out for fresh ones in seconds.
Couple of things need to be improved but otherwise looks great. Don't know about the monthly fee. Much rather have pay by usage like regular gasoline. And be able to charge at home is a MUST.
This is like the future.... gosh its slowly unveiling... i like it a lot!!!! though i don't like the idea of the charging station, it should be able to charge even at home.
- Should have the ability to charge at home - Charging stations should have an optional pay-per-use tariff - The display would be the perfect use for an e-ink display - It should be possible to place more than two battery packs in there, but use the space for storage, if only two are needed
You should literally *always* wear *gloves* when you ride something like a scooter or motorcycle to protect your hands from road rash. Just adjust your mirrors _after_ you put your gloves on.
Would be nice if they were just park and ride public transportation. Subscribe to get a key in the mail and can use any scooter anywhere in the city. So everyone share them etc. Or you can buy one and just have it at home and charge it there plus have the battery swap stations as well.
+digitalmc I agree with you. Wouldnt suprise me if they will introduce that as well. Carpools/Carsharing services are really booming these days with just hop-on hop-off systems. This would be something between those very simple bike-renting stations and carpools. Then we really would start to talk about Platform as a service with usage-based payment, but with vehicles
The scooter should come with a charging dock for the batteries... No one is gonna wanna have to drive to a "recharge station" just to get enough energy to go somewhere...
I totally agree what if I want to use this scooter in Somalia of course I want to charge at home or in office. I really like aesthetics and technology unfortunately its not utility machine as it should be.
You'll never do it with the swap out battery thing. If you aren't convenient to the battery station, nobody will buy this. You have to make this chargeable at home. Imagine having to ride 40 miles to get a battery change out every day.
Batteries.. just ain't up to the task.. not yet anyway. And not where I live - cold climate, hilly city topography: 100 km reach is just plain BS.. I am still waiting for that battery revolution... Too bad, I really want electric scooters to work:)

Solar charging is an option.

it has to be more worldwide
If they offer a home charging station, they'll have a hot seller on the Gogoro Smartscooter.

Can gogoro came someday in india? I love it, if ceo move it to our country also, then nothing is better then that.
Please come in indonesia
This scooter is not bad, the only thing I don’t like is the belt driven motor, it’s very noisy. So I still prefer the dc brushless motor.
You can charge it at home...
Solar powered and would be the perfect transport. If I could charge it at home would close the deal.
It comes with A power cord also
Good 21st century tech in new scooter...Looks like this should succeed in the Taipei test market...But sorry, nothing beats a Vespa!
Sniffing the future!

Cittykat Does Gaming I don't think you have a gas station at home, right? But GOGORO is going to develop the charger for it soon.
Cittykat Does Gaming Actually it's so easy to find the battery station in Taipei right now.

Basically a Tesla Scooter
I Need one =D
Having to go swap out batteries instead of just charging them at home defeats the entire point of having an electric vehicle.

$4,000 ??? forget it. I'll just keep my Yamaha R6.
+francrostich but in taiwan you cant buy r6 with usd 4000 @@
Nice electric scooter, terrible charging method. One should be able to charge this at home.
Kalo buat orang bule terlalu kecil ga nyaman

Nobody is going to want a battery you can't charge at home.
