the haunted horse of high seat,i used to live round that neck of the woods, half way up kirkstone pass,it was a heartbreaking tab to school, yikes, lovely vlog!!!
You probably got told already but I think you encountered a fell pony, there are very few living wild in cumbria. You are lucky if it was but i think they move in herds so im not sure
I live near the canadian border above mt katahdin in maine. It's another level of seriously wild up here. You will love it. Too much for me at my age now, i grew up in the uk. English camping is great, safe if you use your noggin.
@@thecatalunya1 66. heart condition and major cancer surgery has slowed me down. Winter is upon us already here. I still have my camping gear. Maybe I will recover my fitness.
This made me miss the lake district immensely (grew up there). Thanks for the relaxing and informative video - definitely have to try wild camping myself sometime.
DIY Perks Thanks, glad you enjoyed! Wild camping really is one of the most relaxing things I've done and would definitely recommend it. Can't believe it took me so long to give it a go
Great video, thanks for posting. Can you remember your kit weight and the distance walked? I am currently doing a few practice hikes to get the balance of weight and distance right for me...thanks
andy holtorp Thanks for watching! My bag usually weighs around 25-27kg with the camping and camera gear. I'm not exactly sure on the distance but based off a couple of route guides it looks to be about 9 miles for the full walk, though I missed out the last few miles in the video.
Joseph Burn awesome, thank you....any idea how much the camera gear weighed? 25-27kg is way above my target weight...I would be looking for no more than 15kg but obviously no camera gear
andy holtorp 15kg would be easily achievable, my camera gear alone is at least 10kg, and my tent isn't the lightest at around 3kg haha. After that it's mostly water, food and cooking gear that make up the weight
Joseph Burn yep, 15 kg would be with everything all in, tent, food and water etc. I recently went on an overnight with 17kg total but covered 25km a day, was very uncomfortable after 15km so looking to reduce distance and weight below 15kg total. 25-27 kg must have been back breaking!
andy holtorp It's always pretty exhausting but never unbearable, the bag and how you adjust it can have a big effect on that. Most of the weight goes through my hips so my back and shoulders do ok. Still, I think 25km a day would be a bit of a struggle for me! Sounds like you're doing well, just a bit of adjustment needed like you say
Just found your awesome channel Joseph. I know it's been a while since this video was made but hats off to you on the brilliant filming of your first wild camp. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Atvb. Take care, Steve. 👍👍
I would love to take my family for a first wild camping in the Lake district. But after researching, i read that I will need a permission for camping. How can I get that? BTW, great video!
Great video good on ya for getting out there I've still yet to do it but in the mean time I will watch videos, what a lovely location to start with, nice one
It's called the Nevis Extreme from Mountain Warehouse. There's definitely better more expensive bags out there but couldn't really fault this one for how cheap it was! Cheers
quality video man (as always). Can't believe you've never gone campimg! BTW, Northumberland has some amazing wild camping spots, some of the most remote parts of the country and the darkest. imagine getting a shot of the milky way ;)
y2keable Thanks :) Been on plenty of camping trips in the past but just never had light/good enough gear to carry with me up the hills to wild camp with. But now I'm hoping to go on plenty more! I've got limited knowledge of Northumberland but definitely something I'll look into, cheers :)
AtheistDominion No designated areas but it is tolerated in The Lake District on hillsides and away from public roads. Usually setting up at sunset and being away at sunrise. Not sure if it's the same across the rest of the UK, though in Scotland it's legal just about anywhere within reason.
@@JBfilmproduction I'm afraid it is NOT tolerated in the Lake District. In fact it is illegal. See here..... www.lakedistrict.gov.uk/visiting/where-to-stay/wild-camping
It was about 3/4 of the way up, not a very big hill to be honest, most of the climbing is done near the start then it's a traverse across the moors. Just the nature of this route
@@JBfilmproduction yes, I noticed it seemed to take a while to get to where you got to, Granted the walking setting up the camera then doing the fake walk for the viewers must be a pain. I have been watching lots and a few set up their tent in the scariest places on the edge of cliffs, one wrong move and ur dead. i would have set up where you did, to be honest :)
Hi, great video. do we need to take permission if I want to camp here? I am travelling there from overseas and planning to take a car from London. So is there any place I could park the car?
You cannot wild camp in the Lake District as it is illegal. See here... www.lakedistrict.gov.uk/visiting/where-to-stay/wild-camping Also, overnight parking is not permitted in lay-bys or other parking areas. The thing to do is to stay on registered campsites in the Lakes.
Hi Joseph. Thanks a lot for this vlog I enjoyed it. I walked to Ashness Bridge and then on to Surprise view. Take care and I look forward to more. All the best garryuk.
Be aware that wild camping in areas other than registered sites in the Lake District is illegal.. See here.. www.lakedistrict.gov.uk/visiting/where-to-stay/wild-camping And if camping on private land, even with land owner's permission, it is not permitted to light fires, stay more than one night, or pitch more than two tents.

MrQuintonia Thanks for watching! I've been meaning to get out on another one soon, hopefully this week.
The lake District is the best, I went there after it rained heavily for a few days and there was awesome snakes and anfibions to catch
I enjoyed your video thanks, great scenery.... pity about the mist and rain but the horse made a nice touch 😀 Cheers 👍

Brian Gray Thanks again! It was quite nice capturing some moody landscapes for a change but I'll definitely be back out when the weather improves :)
Out of curiosity, what are the rules for wild camping, ie can you pitch your tent pretty much anywhere or are there designated areas?

Nice video like your style
Isnt it scary at night on ya own? my mind would play tricks on me i think..
He keeps saying "we" instead of "I", so I'm guessing he wasn't on his own
Would of been better if you were on your own
I've done a few solo wildcamps too, there's one linked at the end of this video
Wild Camping is illegal.
Depends where and if you have permission. It is legal in Scotland and on Dartmoor. Most places don't mind if you follow leave no trace principles.
Also it is legal to camp on National trust land in England as long as it is at least 400m up and above the highest fell wall.
It is indeed thinuk. Here.... www.lakedistrict.gov.uk/visiting/where-to-stay/wild-camping
