I think Luka needs to develop his power game and continue to hone his craftiness. He will never have a first step to just blow by defenders but he can create enough for opportunities to absorb contact and finish which I don’t see him do enough. He def has the frame for it, now it just a matter of chiseling it out. I’m optimistic because he’s only 19yo and has plenty of time to develop on that end. If he doesn’t do that, then his ceiling will dramatically be reduced.
Great video. Just on the 3rd play, not only does he do what you mentioned, but he jump carries/steps, the ball, over the defender, catches the help defender hip on his left, thereby preventing him from interrupting his play. It's pretty basketball. However, I wouldn't agree he has 'below average athleticism'. He's stronger and more athletic then what you perceive on video. He wouldn't average a triple double alone, on BB IQ. p.s. Sorry for all the edits. Since Luka came off of winning the EuroLeague, being MVP and training with the national team, he had no break, before joining the NBA, that's why Rick (coach of mavs) and strength and conditioning staff, said, take time off, just play how you want to play this rookie here. Next year, we can start on adding strength and different skills, but for this year, we gonna chill.
Bird was also very crafty his rookie year but he was also at least 3 years older when he was a rookie. Bird was better in most, if not every phase of the game.
I agree, for now. I'm a HUGE Bird fan, but I'd put 19-year-old Luka ahead of 19-year-old Larry. Luka was playing high-level pro ball at 15. We'll see what Luka's play is like in 3-4 years. He has drive, ambition, and a strong work ethic. I'm looking forward to watching him develop. When Luka reaches his prime, will he approach Larry Bird level skill and success? I don't know, but I sure hope so. That would be awesome to watch.
@@dlxinfinite7098 'Chubby' is a useless metric, and an inaccurate description of Luka, even at the beginning of the season. As far as work ethic, Luka has improved in all aspects of the game throughout his brief time in the NBA. That doesn't happen without hard work. As shown in the video, at 19, he's already an elite player in several categories, close to James Harden (reigning MVP) in step-back 3-pointers. He's already had 3 triple doubles. My man Bird was a freshman/sophomore in college at 19. I believe he would have been able to compete in the NBA at that age, but I don't see him dominating as Luka has. There's no way to know for sure, and I haven't seen much video from that time of Bird's career, so that's just my educated guess. Time will tell. I'm not saying he'll be as good as Larry Legend (my favorite player ever), but based upon his production and improvement so far, it's possible.
Of course it aged well everyone who knew the game knew luka would be this good by the end of his career he's gonna be top 5 or even top 3 player ever bro mark my words
That GS game whip pass was when a mav.s team without DSJ/DJ/Barrea/ and no KP,Wright, Curry , Boban etc beat them w/o Curry the worst loss theyd had in 12 seasons. We resigned that entire roster. Luka blew KD out that night. Klay,Iggy,KD they were hopeless that night. Luka was mad about tanking. He will be a monster and can close strong at the rim and does it in practice but in games last year got ZERO love from the ref.s. He blocked Lebron james twice on the same play and made LJ so mad he went off and played way beyond his season stats and then got the groin pull the next game.
He's most likely top ten. Hopefully he stays consistent. Give credit where it's due. Hating for no reason is pathetic but to be hated you must be really good at your job.
nah not Bird. Luka has a way better all around game than him and he’s younger. Jordan vs Luka is debatable and Wilt probably is better than Luka but that was a different time.

Hey, i loved your website and your style of analysis on Nate Duncans podcast. Im sure a lot of people, myself included, would love to see your podcast on spotify!
Doncic is an inspiration for non-athletic basketball players who aspire to be in pro-basketball someday. You don't need to excel on razzle-dazzle dribbling moves like those of Curry and Kyrie, or be a rim rocker like slam dunk champions. Just learn and master the basics of basketball would be enough.
Dennis Blancaflor yea and be 6ft8 . Better off learning how to be an elite shooter , pass and dribble if your average sized . Curry and Trae Young are the blueprint for the Everyman .
No Curry and Kyrie and Trae Young are an inspiration for non athletic basketball players. Luka doncic is 6'8, big body and a good dunker with decent speed can block shots too. Watch his dunk vs phoenix where he outsprints ayton and ariza and throws down a big dunk. Or against denver where he dunked on millsap and plumlee. Or watch his block on trae young
I really appreciate this detailed and well-balanced analysis of Luka's rookie year. Looking forward to seeing how he develops into next season, especially with Dirk's retirement and the acquisition of Porzingis. Depending on how things pan out, I think we could see a MUCH better showing by the Mavs in the '19-'20 season.
No. Already being a legend means that, if he never played another game, he'd be mentioned with the greats. He needs at least another decade of being even better than he is to be a legend. He's very promising, but not a legend quite yet.
Rookie season: "Not a good finisher"
Next season: Number 1 shooting percentage at the rim

He def has the frame for it, now it just a matter of chiseling it out. I’m optimistic because he’s only 19yo and has plenty of time to develop on that end. If he doesn’t do that, then his ceiling will dramatically be reduced.
Could you upload your podcasts to spotify?
It would be nice to hear it while driving
5:58 Damn, i forgot how brutal Ben used to be with his adjectives. Good he became more respectful and professional later.
I love your channel so much. You succeed at establishing a fine balance between stats and opinions. I can see this channel going far!
He's looking a lot more athletic this season. Losing weight and gaining it back as muscle and speed is pretty great.
This aged well
He just shot a buzzer beater in a playoff game, this aged well
Bring a young Euro star into the NBA is a W
@@MSHkr
Work ethic?
We are halfway thru the season, and he's still chubby.
Please, he's not Bird yet, probably never.
@@dlxinfinite7098
'Chubby' is a useless metric, and an inaccurate description of Luka, even at the beginning of the season.
Great video! Loved everything about It. The only thing I would add is his Clutch Stats which are also at the top of the league.
Yes Luka is the next GOAT
Sawyer Heckard but is he Larry bird with a 40 inch vertical
Im coming back in 2020 after Luka is officially one of the best players in the leauge
holy shit this aged insanely well
Of course it aged well everyone who knew the game knew luka would be this good by the end of his career he's gonna be top 5 or even top 3 player ever bro mark my words
another fantastic video,really enjoyed it
Would be interessting to see an update on this some time
What is encouraging is the things he struggles at he doesn't show defeatism...
Loving these videos, Doncic is going to be a all-time great for sure!
The kid makes it look effortless and this is his rookie year. He’s going to be special for sure
Your videos are so underrated!
Luka gonna be the GOAT one day soon ! That youngin got talent like no other
it was proved today
8:42 And he was getting buzz for mvp a later... yeah, reality often crush predictions.
This aged very well
Luka🔥🔥
Finally the Luka Doncic video!! Love your analysis..Good job!!!
He is a mini Larry Bird playing the guard position.
He's more like a white LeBron
Jerm not even close
Keep these videos up. They are very good and more unique then the dozens of NAB2k/discussion channels on RUclips.
I was watching this with captions and his name was Luke Don Church and I can't unsee it now
LOL....You bastard!...now I can't unsee it
Incredible....once the Mavericks get their team chemistry up for next year luka will be a legend when he retires
Great vid
He's fine for now. Let's see how he does first in the playoffs where defense is tougher and coaches can actually create defensive plays against him.
you should do giannis at some point he is the most unique player in the nba
Jokic is right there with Giannis
He's most likely top ten. Hopefully he stays consistent. Give credit where it's due. Hating for no reason is pathetic but to be hated you must be really good at your job.
Huh? He isnt hating, this vid is almost a year old lol. Check out his new vid on Luka. ruclips.net/video/q9crdCIZwjc/видео.html
where does jokic rank among passers for you?
I'm planning a video on Jokic...and I'd like to do one on top passers, which will include Jokic.
thats great look forward to it, i wonder if i can guess the rest of your schedule im like 4/9 true guessing % right now
Your channel growth has been insane man for such a young channel keep it up love these vids
Good analysis. Luka is going to be amazing. He’s having the greatest roomie season ever I’d go as far as to say.
Ben Simmons recorded the highest number of triple doubles of any rookie in NBA history.
Michael Jordan, Wilt, Bird, etc all had better rookie seasons
nah not Bird. Luka has a way better all around game than him and he’s younger. Jordan vs Luka is debatable and Wilt probably is better than Luka but that was a different time.
Stalker Bleach but bird did have a better rookie season...Celtics were 2nd to last in the NBA the year b4 & he carried them to the number 1 seed in the NBA as the main option on better shooting splits as well
@@movementman9777 Luka has literally 0 argument over the people I mentioned for best rookie year of all-time. Look at their rookie stats and advanced metrics, and it becomes apparent.
Hey, i loved your website and your style of analysis on Nate Duncans podcast. Im sure a lot of people, myself included, would love to see your podcast on spotify!
Do a Zion Williamson breakdown
Nah
no wait til he's really played in the nba
Wait till he prove he can play ball against pro's....
zeus hualde he is already the best ball player in the world everybody agrees. No need to wait until after the draft to analyze him
The Sports Warehouse this is a whiteman hype zone...no room for Zion The Lion 🦁.
Luka is like anybody. Luka is Luka. And he is here to change the basketball.
Whatever you say
@@DennisBlancaflor How can you say Curry is athletic but doncic isnt? Its like you dont even watch them play
@@pcs54 not going to engage in this argument. Go suit yourself who's athletic or not. Enjoy the game
I really appreciate this detailed and well-balanced analysis of Luka's rookie year. Looking forward to seeing how he develops into next season, especially with Dirk's retirement and the acquisition of Porzingis. Depending on how things pan out, I think we could see a MUCH better showing by the Mavs in the '19-'20 season.
its blasphemy calling him the nexxt legend holy shit.
HE ALREADY IS A LEGEND!
No. Already being a legend means that, if he never played another game, he'd be mentioned with the greats. He needs at least another decade of being even better than he is to be a legend. He's very promising, but not a legend quite yet.
watching this in the middle of the 19-20 season
Do one on flamin jake layman
Absolutely loving the videos you've been putting lately. Keep it up!
Luka is about to average 27, 8 and 8
Give him 3 years
I say 22.6.7
whoops. he averaged 28.8, 9.4 and 8.8. my bad
On point with research and great videos to go along with it what you're discussing. Subscribed.
Oh & Luka is 🔥 🔥 🔥
