Sorry I missed this comment! You could get away with either. The 32.5" is lighter, so it feels more whippy and loose. The 34" as it's longer, its a bit heavier - it's a very minor difference, but something to consider. If you like to get radical and whip the board around go the 32.5". If you like to draw out your turns and do big carves and cutbacks, the 34" will probably be better. I'm 6'2" and my go to is the 34" conor, it's my daily and love it in big ramps and bowls. The 32.5" I use for the streets, little curbs and smaller ramps at the skatepark, I don't like it in bigger bowls as I feel it's a bit too small for me - I need that extra length in the bowl with my height. Hey, great review. I'm trying to decide between the 35" Connor and the 34.5" Manta Ray. I'm 6'2" and 170lbs, new to surf skating and primarily going to use it as a surf training tool. Any recommendations? Cheers!
I'd opt for the connor. It's 34" not 35" and it has a shorter wheel base than the Manta, so it's just a touch more like riding a short board. You! I'd go the 32.5 Toledo THD. It has the same wheel base as the 34" Toledo, but it obviously has the new THD thruster mechanism, which has 15-20% more hold and drive, which I love. Given your height and weight I feel the 32.5 will feel a little better under your feet, making it feel easier to put the board where you want it, as it's shorter than the 34". you could get away with riding the 34" no worries! It performs just as well, I just prefer the THD thruster on the 32.5 and if you start taking it to the skatepark on ramps ect. the shorter deck, for you I feel, will feel more manoeuvrable on the ramps. Hello !!! I have a 45.5" Manta Ray , I'm looking at the 39" dolphin .. Is there really a difference in the ride? I was also looking at YOW Wakiki 40".... Or do I just stick with my 48" long board dancers? YEWWWW !!
Yo! Yes there's definitely a difference between the 39" cruiser and the 34" manta ray. As the name suggests the dolphin cruiser is board to cruise around on, but you can still surf it top to bottom with the Thruster mechanism and do big cutbacks and carves on it - you just can't turn it as sharp as the manta due to it's longer deck. But I really enjoy riding the cruiser, it's something different and it feels like logging - I cant walk up and down the board, carve and cutback and do little slides on it. I'm not too sure about the other boards you suggested, but in my opinion, you just can't beat the smoothness of the smoothstar thruster - it provides that stability on the cruiser but also that flow, which makes the cruiser so enjoyable to ride. I'd go the manta (the new THD one)! That extra half inch will make all the difference being your first board and it has a longer wheel base than the conor, so it'll have that extra stability. They've widened the tail on the manta too, so you foot can plant more firmly on it, without it hanging over the edge. The longboard is more of a cruiser board and you're kinda restricted on what you can do it on it given it's length. You'll enjoy something that offers a lot more freedom like the Manta than the longboard for your first board. The longboard is more of a secondary board to add to your quiver I feel. I'd go the 32.5 if I were you. It's gonna be super rippable at the skatepark and with its wider tail, it's much more comfortable for cruising and I think it'll suit your height a touch better. And if you're cruising through the city and find a little shredable curb or bank to skate on, the 32.5 will be epic on it - it's also a touch lighter, so if you have to carry it while in the city, it's gonna be lighter than carrying the 34. Yeah I feel Smoothstars definitely resemble that surfing feeling a lot more than other surfskates from my experience, it's always nice to mix it up and try new boards to see which one suits you best, but if you're liking your carver, I'd guarantee you'll love your smoothstar! Hi there, I've got a question about your opinion on the new Thrusters. Do you think they're good enough and different enough to get the same board again with the new decklength and Thruster?
Definitely, you can feel the extra drive and hold the new thruster D offers, so from a surfing standpoint, it'd be worth the investment if you were wanting to improve your surfing more. Alternatively, if you just like to skate street or park and are surfskating regularly, it'd be worth the upgrade as the new Thruster D is a lot stronger than the OG Thruster, giving it more longevity. In terms of going for the same board again, IMO it might be worth opting for something different as there's a much more a selection to choose from now, so then you'd be able to alternate between your two boards, but it's all up to you at the end of the day - if you like the design and feel of your current board and want to stay with that, that's completely fine. Having an extra board in the quiver never hurt as well - it's always nice to skate with a mate, so you could use one to lend, and if you absolutely thrash the shit out of one, you got another haha

Your 'How to generate speed' vid outside on the street was great to get started. I don't surf yet, hope to one day though(hoping it'll help), mostly just on footpaths and streets as that's all there is. Having great fun doing it though so I've already won😎😄. I may have to find a place that stocks the boards and try them out after all. Got mine without ever having even stood on one 😄. With the many new boards though, I may have to try them out and compare them. Love the deep concave on the JD so not sure how a shallower concave would feel like. Also, are the shallower decks still good for barefoot riding? Had someone tell me I need to wear shoes on a board, but it feels strange. Not sure if the concave is the reason for that? Great new shorts clip btw. Love how easy you make it look even just going down the street. Honestly, hope that one day going down the street will look even a fraction as smooth and fluid as you make it look. Hope I don't thrash it yet and need a new one due to that. I'm just on the flat so if my board ends up like that I reckon I'm in all kinds of trouble hahaha. Good point about being able to lend a 2nd board to a mate. You've really made me curious about trying the same board with the new Thruster now though and seeing how it's different (Thruster, deck size, weight, responsiveness, etc.). May have to try them out and get 2 haha

I bought my first surfskate without ever trying one too - forces you to learn to ride it! haha Personally I prefer a deeper concave than a shallower one, as it helps me transition from rail to rail, push through and hold my turns more. It's up to you if you want to wear shoes or not. I only wear shoes at the skatepark as I'm doing big airs and landing them can be hard on the feet, but skating street I don't wear shoes, I feel more comfortable without them. It's all personal preference. It's all practice! you'll be able to skate fluid and smooth, just gotta keep at it! Having different varieties in the quiver definitely make skating more fun! YEW!
YO! You could go either. I like an extra bit of length as my feet move up and down the board a lot when I get radical on it and do airs ect. If you tend to have a wider stance the 32.5 would be a better option, but the difference between the two wold be pretty minor given your height. If you're on the fence I'd go the 32.5 as that extra bot of length isn't gonna hurt and you'll have that extra bit of length to move your feet up and down the board if you get radical on it. It’s definitely shorter than the regular models because they made it more compact. And that’s also why they made their new decks shorter.
