  • Welcome to the Grand Opening of a fantastic new garden railway line - the Lymm, Royton & Hoddlesden Railway. This amazing garden railway located near Camden NSW features many lovely buildings, all best seen at rail level so that’s where the camera is! Track gauge is 45 mm, with a scale of 16mm to the foot (1:19) or thereabouts.
    - - - -
    Rails in the Garden are a group based in NSW, Australia that meet regularly to run our live steam and battery-electric trains on 32mm and 45mm gauge tracks at events held in member's gardens and at regular indoor exhibition events. We cater to all the common garden scales including Gauge 1, 16 mm, G-scale and 7/8ths scale.
    We produce our own quarterly Australian magazine devoted to the garden railway hobby and subscription enquires are welcomed by e-mail: magazine@ritg.org.au.
    Our premier annual event is the Southern Highlands Steam-Up (SHSU) and we are already looking forward to the next edition on 17-19 May 2024; details of pre-registration are available at shsteamup.com or by e-mail: registrar@shsteamup.com.
    Prospective members may attend events by expressing their interest to secretary@ritg.org.au and a full calendar of our activities is available at ritg.org.au.

      It is lovely, I can’t wait to run there again and see the progress as he keeps improving things and as the plants grow and develop. There’ll be another video when that happens.

      @@SteamInYourGarden It's tempting. Right now I have a 10 x 15 foot elevated layout in the basement

      That sounds great, I hope it keeps bringing you joy! Not every garden suits a railway but when it does work it can work very well. Most of our members don’t own their own line but enjoy running their own locos on other people’s railways, as shown on this channel.

    Also liked the painted sky at 0:16 w moving drone. Very realistic.
    And, the little RADAR atop the pointed tree which didn't trigger a Siren.
    Love that blue train.

      Well done for spotting the glider (also known as a soarer) - there’s a airport for light aircraft nearby with lots of gliders being towed up into the air, but it was such good luck to catch a glider coming in for his final approach in that shot that I had to use it.

      The blue train is a Lady Anne from Riundhouse Engineering hauling some G-scale carriages (I don’t believe they are made by LGB but they are very similar).

    This amazing piece of work looks more like a model village with a railway running through it. And the railway actually goes somewhere. The buildings are impressive and the scenics are just superb. If you lived in the UK I would ask if I could come and play for the day

    • @SteamInYourGarden
      @SteamInYourGarden  3 месяца назад

      Well @martinwelsford1353 you never know you just might make it to the Antipodes one day, in which case you’d be most welcome! Geoff’s line and his model landscape is wonderful. If you enjoyed the video there are some extended on-board videos on my channel and more videos on this line are coming in the next few months.

    Hello from UK, a lovely railway, and some great filming, and lovely to see the glider soaring in the opening shot, as if it formally opened the railway for you!

      Indeed - how could I resist using that shot! The host for this steam-up should be well pleased with the result, especially given the reasonably short gestation. Thank you for your kind words.

    Congratulations on building such a wonderful looking railway.
    I can not imagine the hours needed to build it but it was well worth it.

      Dear @grahamfordham4510, yes Geoff has much to be proud of! The techniques he used for making the buildings have been written-up in the Rails in the Garden magazine, in case you're interested, and they aren't too complicated so he claims they didn't take him that long to make. I hope he will host a steam-up again in the future as the plants will look even better in a few years time.

    Your Railway is really the most, to say the least. The plantings and beautiful model buildings really compliment each other, as do the water features. Well done!

    I'm just starting to look into garden scale railways, as I'm currently a HO scale modeller. Seeing what you have done here is fantastic, and great to see some quality right here in Australia. Well done to all, to someone looking at this scale, very inspiring.

    • @SteamInYourGarden
      @SteamInYourGarden  11 месяцев назад +1

      The garden is a fantastic place to be as a modeller and the narrow gauge is very forgiving. Many of us have a bit of suitable space and the materials are affordable. It helps to focus on the overall effect that is gained by virtue of the larger scale - at a six foot viewing distance the eye fills-in background detail if the colours and textures are right. A little bit of foreground detail goes a long way. I spent years indoors with poor light and plastic or foam scenery and I’ll never go back. 16mm.org.uk is a great starting point.

    Fabulous garden layout. Must of costed a million just for the landscaping for a private home layout?
    Where can i buy Lynton & Barnstaple brown coach on the right at 2:22?

    • @SteamInYourGarden
      @SteamInYourGarden  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi, the garden scenery is all home made and more a labour of time and love than cost. The L&B coach has been painted and may have been built from a kit, but the easiest to find ready-to-run option is from Accucraft: www.accucraft.uk.com/products/lynton-barnstaple-railway-coaches/

      @SteamInYourGarden  11 месяцев назад +1

      Geoff has built a lovely line. Gardens do need some raw materials, true, but a garden railway should cost no more than any other pretty little patch of garden. I suspect the main cost is track, but it lasts a lifetime.

      Hi @chrisprice1225, the owner of this line hails from that particular corner of Lancashire and Cheshire, with various family members having grown up in these villages and towns. I’m sure he’ll be pleased to hear that his line is being enjoyed in his home town.
