That's exactly what I wanted from a Nextbot, not the constant chases! If we now have one which is faster than him and the "search" pattern covers a bigger area, this would be the best Nextbot out there!

paranoia isnt the one spawning the dark figures, its the map itself, and it does that just to scare you

you don't need to specifically turn on the music for them to appear, and they're just 2d images so there's nothing to worry about!
turning on the music for extended periods of time actually spawns in blood stains, the dark figures always appear.
At this point, every nextbot is the best nextbot Daxter has ever seen.

The figure is part of the liminal space map. But I do wish there would be a nextbot with the ability to spawn fake figures to scare you at certain points of the map.

The first time i played that map i didnt know it has the shadowy figure and when i see one ita scares the shit out of me i was traumatized man i never going back to that map again💀
Just make a bot that drops little screamer proximities that alert the bot to your location. Or he can teleport to the screamer after a few seconds to catch up to you.
Paranoia is supposed to do more than just wander and chase you. In slender fortress he is a charger boss, he spawns in a room and idles there as long as a player is nearby. As soon as it can "draw" a line to the player, he will start giving out unnerving grunts, giving you 3 warnings before going after you.
Wished they followed this concept instead. Btw he also teleports away to a random location after idling for a while and nobody drawing his aggro. It's more unnerving having him idle like a statue until he attacks.
Charger bosses in SF2 are mostly instant kill plus once you fail to get out of sight during the warnings they pretty much zoom extremely fast and kill you. (Impossible to outrun in SF2)

From what I've seen, this Nextbot is definitely one of the most well designed. It has great path finding and a well kept balance between fairness and horror. The bot's "chase" trigger area could be improved, maybe replaced with a sightline system instead of just a square/circle around it. It's gimmick of scaring you could also use some work, maybe have it not rely on you opening doors as it'd be completely untouched in a decent chunk of maps, have it trigger after a while of searching for you or change it so instead of a harmless, blood pumping prank, it could instead be a constant and separate part of the bot that can affect you in some way (changing brightness like Darkness/reverting controls/slow down movement/becoming a Nextbot that works side to side with Paranoia). All in all, one of my favorite Nextbot as of now.

if only it had an AI system similar to a nextbot that I forgot but it has a chance to run away or chase you when it sees you, and stalks you or just chases you like normal whether or not it spots you, but can hide in random spots around the map; waiting for you to get near it

i feel like the nextbot is more of a "work smart, not hard" type when it finds you, but when its searching then its a little silly

I don't think it needs the screamer jumpscare part, it's just kinda weird.
Otherwise, it's amazing what an improvement it is to introduce actual established horror elements. The hunt, the search, the suspense, vs just 'danger, run'. Not that it isn't powerful when used right, but these are elements in most horror games for good reason.
It's kind of a shame that 'nextbot' has become synonomous with 'horror chaser', though. It's an entire system of AI, not just for horror stuff, even if it's very good at doing it.

it would've been much better if the dark figures were actually a part of this mod, like when he doesnt know where you are, dark figures start spawning around the map and if you expose yourself to that dark figure and it disappears, that guy will instantly get to know where you are and sprint to that location. Imagine how terrifying it would be, you turn around the corner, see a dark figure pop out and disappear the next moment and you realize that this guy now is going after you, you cant see him(yet), you cant hear him, you just know he's now after your ass and you have to escape as soon as possible

This dude was awesome. I feel like it just needs large/loud footsteps whenever it begins to chase you. That would put up some huge suspense.

The shadow in the first map is part of the map. It happens randomly in certain locations
paranoia actually makes sounds that are quite disturbing and also has a charge animation but in this addon he just has a regular running anination
This NPC is creepy. A lot of SF2 can opens doors but also can get stuck behind them too if they are trying to chase you.
Also, They don't like Nextbots. I tried testing a few SF2 npcs and DRGBase ones and most of them were chasing and trying to kill the Nextbot and actually killed some.
I tried to spawn Hollow Nextbot and he literally got killed. I spawned Stalkbot and they were gathered around it, trying to kill it too. Same goes for Terminus, etc.
They do work with other SF2 npcs and some DRGBase Snpcs.
The map I was using was gm_russia

I disagree, but that's just me, I find the png just not scary, all of the ones people use have been uninteresting to me. I personally just don't like it. If you find them scary, I won't understand how, but you do you.

Probably because they can confuse our brain due to being 2d. It's kind of uncanny seeing those weird 2d images walking and looking at you all the time.

Incredible video as always Dax! Honestly a nextbot like this is just what we needed, while I agree that it could have some tweaks like the ones the people in the comments are suggesting, the nextbot itself is already pretty good compared to your usual nextbot. Like you pointed out, it doesn't constantly chase you, it SEARCHES for you and add the fact that it can actually lose you! That's what a lot of nextbots were missing, fairness, after all a chase that's intense but you still know you have a chance to escape is scarier than a chase that's intense but you know you will die no matter what in the end. Honestly I was rather dissapointed by the fact that dark figure was part of the liminal map BUT, this nextbot would go from pretty good to INCREDIBLE if it spawned random hallucinations at random times! And would make justice to it's name "Paranoia." (Though I agree that it could use a better name.)
I love all of the SF2 nextbots. (If yall sadly don't know what sf2 is. Well it's basically team fortress 2 but a community server that makes it scary.)

This is definitely a good horror AI despite the few unpolished bits, but I do have a pretty big problem with Paranoia, that being its screamer jumpscare.
Now, don't get me wrong, I really like those jumpscares and believe they can work well when executed properly, like with the Seek entity in Roblox Doors. My problem with Paranoia's screamer is that it lasts WAY too long. Sure, it surprises you the first time it happens, but I can tell even without experiencing Paranoia firsthand that its jumpscare gets old real quick. I can imagine dying to it for the 50th time and just sitting there soullessly as you just wait for the loud screaming to end just so you can respawn.
In my opinion, a jumpscare should be short and sweet. Think of the release of the built-up tension like a rubber band hitting the victim square in the arm. A shorter scare can also leave the victim dazed afterward, like the stinging sensation after getting hit by a rubber band, as the abrupt changing between the deafening screech to the silence afterward gives the feeling of "What the hell just happened?" It gives you time to wind down and catch your breath.
In contrast, a longer scare makes the victim too preoccupied with the loudness to truly feel the "snap" of the rubber band, overall souring the whole experience of the scare.
In conclusion, my main change I would make to Paranoia is to shorten its screamer down to about less than 2 seconds.

Yeah this Nextbot is old as hell, if I had to guess when it was made I'd probably say 2015, since it was the first time Nextbots became a bit of a trend in gmod
If there was a way to convert monsters from the game "It Steals" into nextbots, they'd become the kings of them.
i wish the developer would have added the scp 096 sounds to this nextbot, having the crying when searching, if it sees you, an ambient sound track plays and 'angry' sounds coming from the creature itself would be killer!!!!!!!

If I was to make a method I would make it scan the map or something to see if they have doors in it. It would then make the doors randomly open on their own when the not had lost you. A constant sense of paranoia since you wouldn't know if it was close or just toying with you.

This is one of the bosses you'll see if you play a gamemode in TF2 called Slender Fortress 2
I can't exactly tell if this Paranoia Nextbot behaves the same as the gamemode but basically
In Slender Fortress 2, Paranoia is a 'charger' boss. A charger boss basically sits around and waits for the player and when a player is spotted, will endlessly chase after it's target until it is dead or sees a different person and switches target instead. The way you deal with them is just staying out of sight waiting patiently in silence for the boss to despawn. Make too much noise and you'll alert the boss and make the charger stay longer.
Before each round start, you are able to vote on what difficulty you would like to play on. This matters as it may change up the boss's mechanics or add more to increase it's difficulty. Every server has different names for it but the server I play on which was District Zen it is Easy, Normal and Torture. When voted the Torture difficulty, Paranoia will wander around the place instead of sitting around whether or not if it was alerted or not. Also it makes a grunt noise whenever you alert it as a warning.

The map is based on a real liminal space photo, of which is of a real hotel located inside of an Airport! It's located in Holiday Inn Loadway London Heathrow T4
The music in the map is not copyrighted, as it isn't protected under any DMCA laws, it's created by The Caretaker, known for his Everywhere At the End of Time album, created to simulate Dementia, the song is Drifting Time Misplaced, which is on Stage 3 of the EATEOT album.
You will only get a copyright strike if you play an original sample The Caretaker used, though being cautious about it is fair.
