Beautiful! Congratulations to all the men working on this amazing piece of history. It's people like these men that keep this country going. Thank you Heidi.
Heidi they broke the mould when they made you..😂.. Smelling of wee/sherry and a bit of Lavender 😂… Fantastic insight into that lovely old Puffer… I love all types of engines as well, I love the smell of steam engines and with all that heat and oil mixed in, such a pity we cannot open up a couple of our Coal Mines instead of dragging it halfway around the world, well done for another brilliant video 👍🏻🇬🇧
So many years of knowledge with crew. I’d love to see some younger people learning how to navigate this tug when these retirees are done . Thanks for a great video!
We do have a number of younger engineering students helping out, we also liaise with local colleges with placements and presentations. One young lad is very keen and is a fully fledged member of the boiler team in between his university classes. Everyone is welcome and will get all the help they need. Young blood to replace us oldies 😊 Cheers Ian
A great documentary. Heidi, you have outdone yourself. Very interesting story, amazing camera work, good interviews with the crew and guests. nice information and views of the engine room. I would be glad to take a steamy day on the river with Heidi any time.
What an amazing crew on an awesome boat.....that engine room 😍 and she sounds beautiful. Thank you for taking us along Heidi and totally agree she sounded very relaxing, even hypnotic. 😊. Safe and happy onward adventuring Heidi.......hair looks good this week even after wearing yer helmet!😂
Hi Heidi it was a pleasure to show you around and show you what we do, all the volunteers work hard to keep the Danny sailing, which you superbly show in your video. Excellent video, super editing, a big thumbs up 👍 Cheers Ian
Another great vlog (and highly interesting for the mechanically minded!). "The Danny" is a magnificent vessel, and obviously well maintained and cared for (and, dare I say it, loved!). Steam driven vehicles seem far more 'alive' than later vehicles, with the smells, sounds and movements and so much more. When I was a schoolboy (many decades ago) I used to help out at The Kent and East Sussex Railway, and it was brilliant fun (although I doubt Mum was happy with the added laundry issues!). I just remembered (while "The Danny" was turning around) that the system of communication between the bridge and the engine room was called "Engine Room Telegraphs". Where does a General keep his armies? Up his sleevies!
Interesting story to that tug, its a part of history that deserves to be kept running. The workmanship involved in the old steam engines is amazing. Having served aboard RN ships and sadly seen them scrapped/sold off eventually its nice to see some old vessels being given a new lease of life.
You have done it once again! When you described the coordination of the crew to make the ship work I thought it is sort of like an orchestra getting instructions from the maestro.
Waw, Heidi! You scored yourself a biggun! Yawdroppingly exciting to see how it is restaured and operating again. And the Art Deco interior is so wonderful, i’m mad for Art Deco! Beautiful! So. Thank you so much. I’m off watching it again! ❤🐕❤️
Fab video! My dad was a chief engineer in the merchant navy for over 40 yrs as was my grandad before him… That engine would’ve been his heaven… unfortunately he dropped dead when he was 60 which was a bit inconvenient to be honest… tho’ he did die on a boat… renovating an old dredger in Caernarfon harbour… I love the smell of ships… memories of childhood visiting dad’s ships… 😊👍 nice hearing from old engineer blokes (all with same accent as my dad) thank you mrs! 👍😊

Couldn't quite smush it down to four or five lines; needs a bit of context, but how's this: They put to sea - nearly - on the ship canal wide The outlook was dreary: well, it was Merseyside “Batten down the hatches!” our brave captain cried. “The waves are five inches - it’ll be a rough ride! “You’re mentioned in despatches, Bon, for not staying inside” They saw ships a plenty upon the high seas But the coffers stayed empty, for none did they seize “’Cos my nips are like bullets; I’m worried they’ll freeze!” - Jack 'Tar' Parkes From far beyond the Spanish Main in Auckland, New Zealand
Ahoy Heidi & Bonny! ❤ The Historical History of The Stream Tug " The Danny "! Thank you, Heidi for this awesome history!❤❤❤From Chicago, IL USA 🇺🇸 P.S Heidi, you're amazing!😊
Love all your videos, Heids, but this is among the most mental ones in a good while. Seeing the old-timers work the engine like an old pipe organ had my jaw on the floor. The chugging clockwork, the massive, hungry stoves, the calling system. That, is, insane. Makes me think of what life was like on the deepest decks of the ocean liners some 100 years ago...

It is so different from the many other vlogs done by the boating community. Many thanks to the staff for letting you do the video as well. Totally Brilliant!! Mark Alberta, Canada
Absolutely wonderful to see, lucky you. I went over the Shieldhall 30 years ago when it was in either Poole or Southampton (?), she was great and the heat in the engine room was tropical, by crikey! Only trubble is The Danny would be too noisy fer smuggling brandy & baccy, tea, silk etc. I'll have to stick with me blow up Hippo or Nessie plus a paddle!! Keep on smiling, old smuggler Frank🤣😉

I, together with my family, had the great pleasure of a trip on The Danny on my birthday last year. It was a tremendous day, on a magnificent treasure of a ship. The Danny and all her crew are a credit to historical ship building and also a credit to humanity. A wonderful thing indeed. Long may she grace the waters with her presence for crew and passengers for many many years to come. Thanks to Derek Knox (Boiler Stoker on my trip) for informing of the magnificent Danny and trips that are available to attend for all who book on. Like going back in time, in fine style indeed.
