Sõnad:
Metsavenna elu lõbus,
kas sa seda siis ei tea?
Raba rüpes põõsa vilus
sääsed lendvad ümber pea.
REF: Hollarii-hollaraa
Hollarii-a-iia-iia, hollaroo!
Voodiks mättad, tekiks udu,
padjaks vana vettind känd.
Pruudiks kaisus on truu kone,
meelest läinud "tädirand".
REF: Hollarii-hollaraa
Hollarii-a-iia-iia, hollaroo!
Tantsumuusikaks sul mängib
tibla kuulipilduja.
Mõni noot sust läbi tungib,
oma tinast sisuga.
REF: Hollarii-hollaraa
Hollarii-a-iia-iia, hollaroo!
Ja kui lahingus sa langed,
lähed igaviku teed,
leinarüüks sul lumehanged,
pisarateks taevaveed.
REF: Hollarii-hollaraa
Hollarii-a-iia-iia, hollaroo!
Metsavenna elu lõbus,
kas sa seda veel ei tea?
Kui mu laulu sa ei usu,
ise proovima siis pead.
REF: Hollarii-hollaraa
Hollarii-a-iia-iia, hollaroo!

English version:
It's fun to be a Forest Brother
buddy, don't you know it yet?
live in forests, fight in bushes,
skeeters flying 'round your head
Holle-ree, holle-rah
holle-ree-a-hee-a-hee-a holle-row!
Bed in hammock, rigged on spruces
pillow bag of TNT
have a rifle as your girlfiend
and forget all sorrows, hee!
Holle-ree, holle-rah
holle-ree-a-hee-a-hee-a holle-row!
And the music for the dancing's
played by Soviet machine gun
while the notes may penetrate you
dodging them is half the fun!
Holle-ree, holle-rah
holle-ree-a-hee-a-hee-a holle-row!
Even if you die in combat
and you head to Heaven's ways
widow's veil is snow on ground and
tears are drops of autumn rains
Holle-ree, holle-rah
holle-ree-a-hee-a-hee-a holle-row!
It's fun to be a Forest Brother
buddy, have you tried it yet?
get a rifle, kill the Commies
it's more fun than I can bet!
Holle-ree, holle-rah
holle-ree-a-hee-a-hee-a holle-row!

The Forest Brethren (Estonian: Metsavennad were a patriotic, anti-Soviet guerrillas and partisans who fought against the Soviet occupators after the WWII when USSR had conquered the Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania). They made the life difficult for the Communists, and while their fight more or less dried up after the death of Stalin 1953, they were never really crushed until 1979, when the last Estonian Forest Brother was killed in action. Estonian folk punk band "Untsakad" (literally "Grateful Dead") has recorded several of the old songs of the era. Since Estonian and Finnish are close enough to be mutually intelligible, I took the liberty to translate the song into English. The original song, which is brisk and ironic, can be found here.
The last known Forest Brother was Latvian Jānis Pīnups, who came out of hiding only in 1995, having fought guerrilla war against the Communists for fifty years.
Translation by Susanna Viljanen
Great song! Hail from Poland! Our forests were full of anti-communist partisan units those days as well (last fighter was killed in 1963). Smash communism always and everywhere!
Imagine the last thing you hear before you die is HOL LA REEE HOL LA ROOO
Not even a communist occupation can kill off the Estonian sense of humor it seems.
Could not be closer to the truth. As long as there are two Estonians on planet Earth, they *will* find a way to get drunk and party.
Great as usual!
ebin :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
1:21 translation is wrong, should be smth like "if you dont believe the song, then you gotta try yourself"
Неплохо.
