Thank you so much for sharing this combo!! It’s exactly what I’m going to use for my son. We use IEW for the older two but I had no clue about the writing for the younger grades!! This is perfect!!!

What a great video. There is not a lot out there showing the inside and how iew k-2 works. Thank you. (I know this is old video. Haha. But still helpful)

I was trying to compare these two programs, and never thought of using them together. Great idea! Thank you for your video.

So I have been thinking either LoE or PAL. Interesting that you used them together. After working this way, would you recommend them together or is that just overkill? Also, did your children seem to prefer one more than the other?

Thanks for sharing. We're using LOE Foundations A... and I didn't know about IEW. My daughter's in Kindergarten, so it might be a good resource for 1st grade (IEW).

Seems to me that IEW is completely unnecessary for this stage. if more writing is needed then just give them extra handwriting practice sheets. Paying for another curriculum seems excessive

This is more than handwriting and I think for many kids that would work well. That’s what’s so fantastic with homeschooling. We have the ability to work within the needs of our children, budget, and family dynamic to find the best fit.

Would love to see what you would do for Kindergarten now that you’ve passed that!

I will be hitting Kindergarten again in a few years with my littlest one. I did share some of what I did when my boys were that age. They are all so different though. Anything in particular you’re curious about, or the whole shabang?

Balanced Vitality I would love to see what subjects you included. I’ve been debating if I should do a gentle/fun intro to history. It’s a subject I am eager to learn about along side my kids but I have a 5,3,2 year old sooo not sure it’s it’s even worth it right now. Thinking when my kids are 6,4,3 it maybe a better time.

Sandra Ruiz mostly at that age I just did fun science exploration and historical picture books. I think I do have some videos on my channel where I talked about adapting Mystery of History for Kindergarten. I think if I did it again, I would just do age appropriate unit studies that were fun and high interest for the kids. :)

Thanks for sharing. How teacher intensive are these programs? I am debating between LOE and All About Reading/All About Spelling and IEW and Essentials in Writing. Do you know how do these compare? Thanks.

Lynn Corp I’m not far into IEW, and am just using the Primary writing program. So far, it’s the most open and go, but recommends/uses All About Spelling starting in the second part (I’m just substituting LOE). It’s been a long time sense I used All About Reading. As far as teacher prep, they’re pretty similar. AAR might be a bit more prep. I did feel like the lessons were really long with AAR, but that could be changed. AAR has more board type games and worksheet type activities. Logic of English has more gross motor skill activities. Most of the beginning reading in LOE is in the workbook with the additional readers and Bob books are also recommended. With AAR, much of the reading is in the readers (which I’m pretty sure they just released in full color). Is that helpful?

I didn’t speak much to the teacher prep. LOE and AAR both take a little work right out of the gate. I would look over the Lessons the night before, but they’re bothering generally pretty open and go. There may be a little prep from time to time.

Balanced Vitality thanks you - we have gone with AAR/AAS and IEW since it’s incorporated in their curriculum already.

Thank you for your video! I was interested in using these two programs together as well, so I was so excited to find your video.
