A Legend of a Man who does not take things seriously and has lots of stories that he could tell. I met Bailey a few years ago. On the beach in Newquay and in Tavistock.
I love how Jean Shrimpton let herself become the beautiful woman she is today rather than someone who fights age with surgery, injections and so on. Also Paulina Porishkova (sorry if I spelled wrong) has done the same. No botox etc and she also is gorgeous in her 50''. In France they say a woman of a certain age. Maybe it is a phenomenon of the USA. In Europe you are given promise to age with grace like Bridget Bardot.
@@ChrisSummerfield (I agree there is a lot of Arrogance within the industry) So true. I'm reading Bailey's autobio' Look Again. Great stories. Re; your point of arrogance and fawning. Bailey tells he hated working for Chanel. He did a photo shoot for them. Afterwards he found the shots were slightly out of focus but sent them anyway. Chanel called and said, "they're brilliant. Only a genius would think to smudge the images."
Look, I'm not having a go at Bailey here.. But after I watched "The Real Blow Up " when Pauline Stone says Yes John French always hired good looking young lads ro work for him.. I just got thinking with this Phillip School Field ( Schofield ) scandal going on.. and Harvey Weinstein .. Jimmy Savile etc.. It just makes me wonder. See 3:32 and 4:18 .. I just wonder if he had to do " other things " to climb the ladder. Hey, I am not implying that Bailey is a rent boy or was.. But you hear all these stories about young upcoming stars having to go on the " Casting Couch " so to speak.. Hopefully I am just over thinking, but I also seen Bailey who was very close to Andy Warhol ( in bed together ) .. and even worse, Cecil Beaton who was a total egotistical homosexual .. and he seemed to have a powerful influence over Bailey in the documentary " Beaton by Bailey " .. I am not a homophobic person.. this is not my point, I am just pointing out that a lot of people in powerful positions seem to take advantage of young people who come into their world.. I might be just over thinking but it just seems to make sense to me.
Time is running out for Bailey, I suppose he had his day.. but I feel that he has been forgotten far too quickly, the younger generation probably don't even know who he is. I mean we've all seen the cracking photos that he did in the 60s but what about the TV Commercials that he did in the 80s ? .. I just wish he had done a documentary which went through all the Ads that he made, I heard that he made hundreds.. but the only few I know are the Lynx and VW ones.. What a shame that his commercial side of things has gone undocumented.
David Bailey is the single reason I became a photographer 35yrs ago. Still at it.....
Thanks for sharing this! Lovely document from an iconic photographer!

A very underated photographer and forgotten today. Some of the most iconic pictures.
LOL, no mate, he is neither underrated nor forgotten. If you live in London and pay attention to photography, Bailey is very much alive and kicking!
I hope so, very little publicity nowadays.
BAILEY = MAKES LOVE DAILY

You are so right.
Brilliant Lynx advert, talented bloke!
Really enjoyed this!
Love Bailey's straight talk and honesty. A total contrast to today's pompous, hypocritical virtue signalling celebs.
I agree there is a lot of Arrogance within the industry that shuts talented honest people out.

Truth and Honesty thats what you get no bullshit.
CBE or OBE?
Cool
No sound...
Jean was far from scruffy. Bailey was inspired with her as his muse.
