  • That was fun! I was privileged enough to gain access to the wonderful organ at the Paramount Theater in Seattle this evening. This is a "PUBLIX 1" Wurlitzer (4/21) and was installed in 1928. This was one of the last large scale installations that Wurlitzer completed, given that silent films were being replaced with recorded sound to accompany the film instead of the organ.
I'm really not a professional theater organist or anything, just a hobbyist who helps out at the Paramount sometimes. It was quite a learning experience for me, given that that I'm a church organist by trade, and the Wurlitzer is not my primary instrument and I rarely play one.
(And, yes, I know, the audio quality kinda sucks, it was my phone.)
Anyway, Here's some more info on the organ:

    Enjoy!

Great recording. I actually really like the spacey reverb. Makes it feel more old-timey.

Thanks! The theater itself has a lot of natural reverb, but I thought a little extra couldn't hurt

You lucky man to play this Wurlitzer.....can't beat an orignal non spoilt Wurlitzer. I always loved the Publix 1 from the Paramount Manchester. Yes you can hear your a church organist.....it is a total different trade and you just need to get in the 'theatremodus' which I think you do after a few tunes. I enjoyed listening to this fab Wurlitzer

I discovered while playing this organ, that it kind of plays YOU! In other words, it's diffulft to get it to sound bad. There is something about sitting down at an organ and having everything click into place. The music just flows out of your fingers. Believe me, it's quite an experience!

@@elliot_sander That's often the case, the room and the instrument decide how you are going to play. There are some strong examples of this. They like to be boss.
